Chapter 1 - Unnamed

One was a merchant - one of his little slaves saves his only son from the water. The merchant was happy and released him, besides loading the ship with various trade goods, he said, 'Cross the sea and go abroad - sell all these things that will earn you money. It's all yours.' The slave took leave of the master and went on a ship to trade.

But trading is no longer possible. A storm arose in the middle of the sea and the ship was wrecked, and the people who took the goods were not found.

The slave stumbled upon an island with great difficulty. Getting up there, he looked around and saw that there was no sign of his ship. There are no people with him. Then he sat down on the sand by the sea in despair. Then when evening came, he got up and went inland. There are forests of big trees - then huge fields, and right in the middle of that is the beautiful city. People are passing through the gates of the city with torches. On seeing him, the people shouted, 'May your majesty be blessed. Long live your Majesty.' Then everyone took him in a magnificent car to a huge palace. The servants there quickly brought royal clothes and dressed him.

সবাই বলছে, 'মহারাজ'; 'Maharaj', everyone is working fast as soon as the order is given, the poor man is completely surprised to hear this. He thought that it was all a dream - that he himself had a headache so it seemed like that. But gradually he realized that he was awake and conscious, and that what was happening was real. Then he said to the people, 'Tell me what is going on? I don't understand any of it. Why do you call me 'Maharaj' and why do you show me such respect?' A long time ago, we all prayed for a 'man king'; Because who else is as intelligent as humans? Since then, our people have not lacked a king. Every year a karey man comes here and we make him king for one year. His reign was only for that one year. At the end of the year, he has to leave everything. He was left on a ship in that desert country, where nothing but a little fruit was to be found - and not an hour of water without digging the sand with a broken shovel all day. Then comes a new king - like this, year after year, we are passing.'

Then Dasraja said, 'Well tell me - what kind of people were your kings before?' 'They were all careless and capricious,' said the old man. The whole year everyone spent the day just enjoying the splendor - not thinking about what will happen at the end of the year.'

The new king listened to everything with his heart, he did not sleep for days thinking about what would happen to him at the end of the year.

Then the wisest and most learned men of the land were summoned, and the king implored them, 'Give me advice, that I may prepare for this doomsday at the end of the year.'

Then the oldest old man, he said, 'Maharaj, you came empty-handed, empty-handed you must go to that country again - but this one year you can make us do whatever you want. I say - At this time, send the masters of the state to that country, build houses, gardens, and make the surroundings beautiful by arranging farming. By that time the country will be filled with flowers and people will travel there. You will reign happily there as soon as your reign here ends. The years will pass by, but the work is yours; So I say, fix everything this time.' The king at once sent men, goods, saplings, fruit seeds, and large calabash, and pre-arranged the desert. Then when the year was over, the subjects took back all his umbrellas, crowns, sceptres, stripped of their king's robes and put on the scanty clothes of the year before, and put him on board ships and left him in the desert land. But that country is no longer a desert - it is surrounded by houses, paths, ponds and gardens. That country is now full of people. They all came and hurriedly rang the conch bell and seated him on the throne. A king was born there for a year and began to reign.
