Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Alchemist of War

Rian returned to the sect's hidden training grounds, now equipped like a true specialist. Around his waist hung a Heavy Iron Gourd, etched with gravity-attracting runes. On his forearm was a sleek, silver bracer with a hidden spring-blade, and in his mind, the mantras of the Cloud-Step technique began to take root.

1. The Heavy Water (Deuterium) Experiment

Using the Iron Gourd, Rian didn't just carry normal river water. He spent hours using his Qi to separate isotopes, creating a small supply of "Heavy Water."

Technical Insight: Heavy water ($D_2O$) is roughly 10% denser than normal water. In the hands of a cultivator, this means every strike carries 10% more kinetic energy, turning a "soft" splash into a "shattering" hammer blow.

2. The Pressure Blade

The hidden blade wasn't just for stabbing. Rian modified the hilt so that his water-veins could flow directly into a microscopic channel along the edge. When he fired his high-pressure jets through the blade, the metal acted as a focusing nozzle, increasing his cutting power tenfold. He could now slice through a fallen redwood tree as if it were butter.

3. The Ghost in the Mist

The Cloud-Step manual was the final piece. By exhaling a constant, thin vapor and then "pushing" against the moisture in the air with his feet, Rian could effectively double-jump or change direction mid-air. He didn't just run; he glided like a storm cloud.

The Mist Trials Begin

The morning of the trials was cold. The Outer Disciples gathered at the "Arena of Tides," a massive stone bowl filled with knee-deep water—an environment designed to favor the Sect Leader's favored disciples.

"The rules are simple," Elder Han announced from the high podium. "Stay in the ring. The last four standing become Inner Disciples. Begin!"

Immediately, the arena became a chaos of fireballs, stone pillars, and whistling wind. Kael and Senior Brother Feng stood at the center, forming a temporary alliance to clear the "trash" first.

"There he is!" Kael shouted, pointing at Rian, who stood calmly at the edge of the water. "Let's see how that 'Water Boy' handles a real earthquake!"

Kael slammed his fists into the arena floor. A massive shockwave of mud and stone ripped through the water, heading straight for Rian.

The Torrent Unleashed

Rian didn't flinch. He uncorked the Heavy Iron Gourd.

"Cloud-Step: First Form," Rian whispered.

He vanished. He didn't jump; he seemed to dissolve into the spray of the incoming wave. Kael's earthquake hit nothing but air.

"Where did he—?"

"Behind you," a voice drifted through the mist.

Rian appeared in mid-air, his hand outstretched. The Heavy Water from his gourd didn't fall; it formed a rotating sphere around his fist. He punched downward, not with a fist of flesh, but with a Heavy Water Impact.

The 10% extra density, combined with the velocity of his fall, hit Kael like a falling moon. The Earth-user was driven straight into the floor of the arena, his stone armor shattering instantly.

The Silent Threat

Senior Brother Feng hissed, summoning a violent Gale-Blade. "You got lucky! Water cannot stand against Wind!"

He launched a dozen air-scythes at Rian. Rian simply stood his ground, his hidden blade sliding out with a metallic clink. He didn't dodge. He pointed the blade at the incoming wind.

Psssssssh—!

A needle-thin line of water, pressurized to 50,000 PSI, shot from the blade's tip. It didn't just clash with the wind; it sliced the air-scythes in half and continued forward, shearing the top off Feng's decorative head-piece before he could even blink.

The entire arena went silent. The "weakest" element had just out-cut the "sharpest" one.

The Elder's Realization

Elder Han leaned forward, his grip tightening on his staff. "He isn't using the water to push... he's using it to breach. That boy isn't a Water Cultivator. He's a Hydraulic Executioner."
