Chapter 1 - The Last Monarch of Ash

Chapter 1: The Last Monarch of Ash

The world didn't end with a bang; it ended with a crack.

Twenty years ago, the first Dimensional Rifts appeared across the globe. From these jagged tears in reality, monsters straight out of nightmares poured into our cities. Conventional weapons failed. Tanks were crushed like tin cans. Just as humanity reached the brink of extinction, the Awakening happened.

People began to manifest supernatural powers. Some gained the Path of the Sword, their blades cutting through steel. Others became Mages, commanding the primal elements of fire, ice, and lightning.

Society rebuilt itself around a new hierarchy: The Rank System.

From the lowly F-Rank—the common laborers—to the god-like S-Rank—the protectors of nations.

Among them was Kang-Min.

To the world, Kang-Min was a joke. He had "Awakened" at age eighteen, but his Mana Measurement was a flat zero. He was labeled Rankless. For years, he lived as a "Porter," carrying the heavy gear of real Hunters into low-level Dungeons just to survive.

But Min's System was different. While others had "Warrior Systems" or "Healer Systems," his screen was always dark, flickering with a single, haunting message:

[STATUS: ETERNAL SEAL (99.9%)]

[BLOODLINE: PROGENITOR VAMPIRE LORD (LOCKED)]

[CURRENT STATE: DORMANT AMNESIA]

He didn't know what it meant. He didn't know he wasn't human. To him, it was just a glitch in a broken body that couldn't even run a mile without gasping for air.

Today was supposed to be a routine supply run.

Min was carrying a massive rucksack for an A-Rank raid team near the Busan shoreline. The target was a standard C-Rank cave. But the universe had other plans.

Without warning, the cave walls didn't just crumble—they dissolved. The C-Rank dungeon "mutated" into a Calamity-Class Rift.

A High-Orc Warlord, a monster that required a small army to defeat, stepped out of the void. Its green skin was covered in ancient runes, and its axe carried the weight of a thousand deaths. With one roar, the A-Rank team was sent flying, their bones snapping like dry twigs.

Then, she arrived.

A pillar of Blue-Gold Flame descended from the sky. Park So-Hee, Korea's strongest S-Rank Fire Mage. She moved with the grace of a goddess, her every strike turning the air into a furnace.

But the Warlord was a "Hero-Eater." It caught So-Hee mid-air, its massive hand crushing her mana shield. With a brutal throw, she was slammed into the jagged rocks right in front of Min.

Min watched, paralyzed. Blood leaked from So-Hee's lips. As she looked up at him, her vision blurry and fading, Min felt something snap inside his brain.

The brown eyes. The scent of jasmine and burnt ozone.

A flash of memory hit him like a lightning bolt. He wasn't in Busan anymore. He was on a throne made of obsidian. He was watching a planet—Kaipra-342—burn to ash. He was holding a woman who looked exactly like So-Hee, her life fading as his own uncontrollable power consumed the world.

[WARNING: ANCIENT MEMORIES DETECTED]

[SOUL RESONANCE: 100%]

[IDENTITY CONFIRMED: THE ETERNAL KING OF VAMPIRES]

The Orc Warlord loomed over them, its axe raised to execute the fallen Mage.

"No..." Min whispered. His voice was no longer that of a weak boy. It was deep, echoing with the authority of a thousand years. "Not again. I will not let you take her again!"

[EMERGENCY PROTOCOL: KING'S WRATH]

[SEAL LIFTED: 0.001%]

[VESSEL STABILIZATION: INITIATED]

Min stood up. He didn't pick up a sword. He didn't cast a spell. He just stepped forward.

The Orc Warlord swung its axe with enough force to level a building. Min simply raised one finger.

CLANG.

The sound of metal hitting a diamond rang out. The massive obsidian axe stopped dead against Min's fingertip. The monster's eyes widened. It felt an aura it hadn't felt since the beginning of time—the aura of a True Predator.

"You are in the presence of the King," Min said, his eyes glowing a terrifying, blood-red crimson. "Kneel."

The Warlord's legs buckled. The ground beneath it shattered as the gravity of Min's "Authority" forced it into the dirt. The monster didn't even try to fight; it began to shake, its heart stopping from pure terror.

[TIME REMAINING: 3 SECONDS]

With a casual flick of his wrist, Min sent a shockwave of blood-red energy through the monster. The Warlord didn't explode; it simply withered, its life force sucked dry in an instant.

The seal slammed shut.

[SEAL RE-ESTABLISHED]

[PENALTY: TOTAL BODY COLLAPSE]

The crimson glow vanished. Min's body, unable to handle the divine energy, gave out. He fell beside So-Hee, blood pouring from his skin as if his veins were bursting.

So-Hee reached out, her fingers touching his. She had seen it. The red eyes. The power that made an S-Rank monster look like an insect.

"Who... are you?" she whispered before the darkness took them both.
