Cherreads

Chapter 1 - Prologue:what remains unsaid

Spring in Seoul carried a quiet kind of warmth.

The kind that made people believe things would last forever.

Under a canopy of cherry blossoms, Park Jang Mi laughed—a soft, genuine sound that seemed untouched by the world's cruelty.

Beside her stood Seo Eun Sang.

Her closest friend.

"You're smiling again," Eun Sang said, watching her.

Jang Mi turned, slightly embarrassed. "Is that a bad thing?"

"No," Eun Sang replied gently. "It just means something good is happening."

Jang Mi hesitated for a moment… then nodded.

"I met someone."

Eun Sang's expression softened with curiosity. "Already? That was fast."

Jang Mi laughed. "You make it sound like I'm rushing."

"Are you?"

Jang Mi thought about it.

Then shook her head.

"No… it just feels right."

Eun Sang studied her quietly.

"Then I want to meet him."

A New Beginning

The café was small, warm, and filled with quiet conversation.

When Song Min Jae stood up to greet them, everything felt… natural.

"Nice to meet you," he said politely.

Jang Mi smiled. "You too."

Eun Sang watched the two of them carefully.

Not suspiciously.

Not coldly.

Just… observant.

Min Jae was charming in a quiet way. He listened more than he spoke. When he did speak, his words were thoughtful, measured.

Safe.

The kind of man you could trust.

And Jang Mi did.

Very quickly.

Time Passes

Love, when it grows without resistance, feels effortless.

Months turned into a year.

And that year became a wedding.

Nothing extravagant—just elegant, meaningful, filled with people who believed in their happiness.

Eun Sang stood beside Jang Mi, holding her bouquet before the ceremony.

"You look nervous," she said softly.

Jang Mi smiled faintly. "A little."

"That's normal."

Jang Mi looked at her, eyes warm.

"Thank you… for always being here."

Eun Sang returned the smile.

"Always."

And in that moment—

There was nothing to suggest that anything would go wrong.

After the Wedding

Married life settled into something quiet.

Predictable.

Comfortable.

Jang Mi handled most of the household affairs, while Min Jae focused on expanding his business ventures.

They didn't fight.

They didn't struggle.

But slowly—

Something changed.

It was small at first.

Late nights.

Unanswered calls.

A distance that couldn't be explained.

Jang Mi noticed.

Of course she did.

But she didn't question it immediately.

Because trust doesn't break all at once.

It cracks.

Quietly.

The First Doubt

It happened on an ordinary evening.

Min Jae had left his phone on the table.

He was in the shower.

Jang Mi hadn't meant to look.

She truly hadn't.

But the screen lit up.

A message.

No name.

Just a number.

"I miss you."

Her fingers froze.

Her heart followed.

She stared at the message longer than she should have.

Long enough for doubt to take shape.

Long enough for fear to settle in.

When Min Jae returned, she said nothing.

She smiled.

Acted normal.

And kept the silence.

The Weight of Knowing

Days passed.

Then weeks.

Jang Mi didn't confront him.

Instead—

She watched.

She listened.

She paid attention.

And what she found…

Was enough.

Photos.

Messages.

Proof.

Not just suspicion.

Truth.

Her hands trembled as she sat alone in the living room late one night, the evidence spread out before her.

Her marriage.

Her trust.

Everything she believed in—

Shattered.

Tears filled her eyes, but didn't fall.

Not yet.

There was only one person she could turn to.

Only one person who had always been there.

She reached for her phone.

"Eun Sang…"

Her voice broke slightly.

"I think something's wrong."

Elsewhere

In a quiet office late at night, a man closed a case file.

Precise.

Composed.

Unshaken.

This was Lee Tae Jun.

A prosecutor known for his sharp mind and unwavering sense of justice.

At least—that's what people believed.

He adjusted his tie, his expression unreadable.

On his desk lay several files.

Unrelated cases.

Or so it seemed.

One of them caught his attention.

A photo paperclipped to the front.

Park Jang Mi.

He stared at it for a moment longer than necessary.

Then closed the file.

"Interesting," he murmured.

Nothing more.

Nothing suspicious.

Just a passing comment.

The Edge of Collapse

Back in her home, Jang Mi stood by the window, staring into the dark.

She had made a decision.

Quiet.

Firm.

"I'm going to end this."

Divorce.

She would not stay in a lie.

She would not pretend anymore.

For the first time in weeks—

She felt a sense of control.

Like she could finally breathe again.

But outside…

Unseen.

Unnoticed.

Someone stood across the street.

Watching the house.

Waiting.
