Chapter 18 - Mana Sphere Stabilization

As soon as he entered after knocking, all eyes landed at Max.

At the moment, there were twenty players inside, listening to Archmage Arlen's lecture. They were currently having the same activity as Archmage Arlen was patiently waiting for them to finish.

When Archmage Arlen landed his gaze at Max, his eyes widened.

He glanced at Myles' body, with his dark indigo pupils, as though his vision was enhanced by his mana, seemingly seeing something that a normal person couldn't.

He beamed a smile at him.

"It seems you're ready now."

Max smiled back at him. "Yes, Teacher."

Archmage Arlen was quite excited to supervise Max's class advancement, so he turned towards his students and said, "Class dismissed. Today's activity will be an assignment."

All the players were shocked. They glanced at Max and wondered what made an Archmage to dismiss his precious class just for his sake.

They didn't have a choice but to follow Archmage Arlen's instruction.

They stood up from their seats and walked towards Max to leave the classroom.

Julian Lewis, while being followed by Jaden Norris behind—the Tier 5 Mage in Max's past life, took the chance to ask Max briefly.

"What's happening?" He was polite as best as he could.

When he saw Max beamed a smile at him, he thought he earned his impression.

However, Max replied, "It's none of your business."

Max's tone was sarcastic, contradicting his dazzling smile.

Julian was taken aback. His blood boiled and veins began to manifest in his jaws after clenching his teeth tightly.

Jaden was also shocked. Even more so when Max's gaze landed at him.

He thought. Why is he being hostile to us? Did we offend him?

Was Julian's order on our scout to keep track of him on the first day was exposed?

Jaden felt concerned. He would admit, Max's talent was above them, someone who was worthy enough for the Lewis Family to invest in recruiting into. If the Lewis Family failed, Jaden would try to recruit him secretly in his organization, too.

It turned out, Max was surprisingly hostile to the Lewis Family, but to him, too.

Jaden thought. This is not good. He's more talented than us and perhaps his levels are way higher, too. I must gain his good impression of me.

Those were his last thoughts until he was the last person to leave the classroom.

When Max and Archmage Arlent were left in the classroom, it became dead silent.

Max was currently trying to compose himself after feeling he was driven mad by Julian.

He easily calmed down after feeling satisfied with his response to Julian's question.

He also had not forgotten to convey to Jaden that he was hostile to him.

That guy betrayed someone for his benefit, someone whose personality struck Max's nerves.

Archmage Arlen interrupted him. "Seems you have a beef with one of them. Actually, the person behind you talked earlier has talent no more less than you. In fact, in two days, he might be ready for his class advancement."

Max acted surprised but he was already aware about it.

Archmage Arlen said in an amused tone, "Still, you are way more talented than them. Anyway, we can initiate class advancement now."

[Archmage Arlen Mireth has initiated a class advancement after you met the conditions .

You have initiated a quest: Class Advancement Trial.

Standard Completion Rewards: Class Unlock, Skill Unlock (Arcane Bolt), Stat Increase (+10 Intelligence Points).

Perfect Completion Rewards: Class Unlock, Skill Unlock (Arcane Bolt, Mana Shield, Mana Pulse, Mana Thread), Stat Increase (+15 Intelligence Points).

Please complete Archmage Arlen's tasks to receive your rewards.]

Max was utterly surprised by the Perfect Completion Rewards. In fact, he already allocated his free stat points to his intelligence points, causing it to reach 25 points.

The main reason he needed to level up to make a breakthrough to his proficiency level in mana control and mana sensitivity was to increase his intelligence points.

The higher the intelligence points, the higher the ceiling that the skill's proficiency level would reach.

Max only recalled such a problem simply because he rarely experienced facing a bottleneck in his skill's proficiency level because of his intelligence points.

If Max would gain another intelligence point, he could increase his passive skill's proficiency further, but it might not be enough to reach the advanced level.

However, with the addition of active skills, he would have more other skills to focus on increasing their proficiency level.

His eyes sparkled. I must achieve the perfect completion rate!

Archmage Arlen noticed how excited Max was.

He beamed a smile and said, "Alright, your first task is Mana Sphere Stabilization.

You must maintain a compressed sphere of pure mana on your palm. It must last for 180 seconds and mana leakage must not reach 5 percent.

If you fail, well, let's try it again and again."

Max was surprised. His face suddenly turned solemn as he thought. I must not fail. I must surpass his expectations.

Without hesitation, Max brought his palm forward and suddenly began to compress a pure mana on his surroundings atop his palm. Eventually, a compressed mana sphere with the size of a baseball began to form.

Max was so deeply concentrated on compressing the mana while preventing any mana leakage to the point he couldn't follow Archmage Arlen's counting.

Archmage Arlen, on the other hand, had his voice quite loud when he began counting, but when he reached the 100th seconds, his voice slowly died down.

His heart thumped, staring intently at Max's compressed mana sphere above his palm.

His eyes widened.

T-This… unprecedented. There is no mana leakage at all. I mean, barely, but not enough to accumulate to 1 percent.

It's almost flawless…

Did he already increase his mana control to intermediate proficiency level?

He left his gaze from the mana sphere and landed them on Max's face, who was deeply concentrated, not even blinking an eye.

He can concentrate to this level and last longer than a minute. This guy's brain…

Just what is it made of?
