Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Hallway Collision

Chapter 14: Hallway Collision

The morning sunlight spilled through the school's tall windows, illuminating the hallway with a warm glow. Students hurried past, chatting, laughing, carrying books and bags, their footsteps echoing on the polished floor.

Tae Kook moved calmly, backpack slung over one shoulder, eyes scanning the hall—not out of curiosity, but habit. His mind, however, drifted toward the day's experiments in his lab and the note Soo Min had left.

"…Focus," he muttered softly. "…Lab first. Thoughts later."

And then—

"KOOKY!"

Min Ho appeared as if summoned by the universe itself, grin plastered across his face.

"Hey, man! You're walking like a ghost again. Someone's gotta keep you… alive."

"…I'm alive," Tae Kook said flatly.

Min Ho snorted. "Sure, sure. Anyway, better watch the hallway—someone interesting might be here."

Tae Kook ignored him, focusing on the lockers ahead.

Behind a nearby pillar, Ae Rin crouched, notebook in hand, eyes wide with anticipation.

"…Observation 145: Potential hallway chaos incoming. Observation 146: Kooky's heart rate elevated. Observation 147: Soo Min may appear."

She scribbled furiously.

Then it happened.

Around the corner, Han Soo Min appeared, walking slowly, carrying a stack of books. Her calm expression betrayed nothing, but Tae Kook noticed every detail—the way she balanced the books, the careful steps, the slight breeze catching her hair.

He froze for just a moment, and in that instant, Min Ho whispered loudly:

"OOH! Jackpot! She's right there! Do something!"

"…Do not speak," Tae Kook muttered under his breath.

Their paths converged at the hallway junction. Tae Kook, too focused on maintaining composure, didn't notice a backpack sticking slightly out from the side. Soo Min, equally focused, didn't see it either.

And then—collision.

Books tumbled to the floor. Tae Kook's backpack slipped slightly, Min Ho gasped dramatically, and Ae Rin squealed from behind the pillar.

"…Observation 148: Collision confirmed. Observation 149: Kooky flustered. Observation 150: Comedy potential—extreme."

"…I'm so sorry," Tae Kook said immediately, crouching to help her pick up the scattered books.

"…It's fine," Soo Min replied calmly, accepting his help. She handed him a book, her fingers brushing his briefly. Tae Kook felt a strange warmth at the touch.

Min Ho, leaning casually against the wall nearby, whispered: "Ohhhh! That was cute! Did you feel that, man? Did you FEEL it?"

"…Shut up," Tae Kook muttered, cheeks slightly flushed.

Ae Rin scribbled in excitement: "…Observation 151: Kooky officially flustered in broad daylight. Observation 152: Hand contact achieved. Observation 153: Heart rate irregularities detected."

Tae Kook stood carefully, adjusting his bag. "…Are you okay?" he asked quietly, eyes on hers.

"…Yes," she replied softly. "…You?"

"…Fine," he said. "…Careful next time."

She nodded, serene as ever, and began walking away—but not before glancing back. "…See you later," she said calmly.

"…Tomorrow," Tae Kook replied automatically, even as his chest tightened slightly.

Min Ho clapped slowly, mock-drama in every gesture. "Bravo! Round one complete. You survived a hallway collision and hand touch without fainting. I am impressed!"

"…You're impossible," Tae Kook muttered under his breath.

Ae Rin scribbled frantically: "…Observation 154: Kooky's controlled world disrupted again. Observation 155: Soo Min's influence expanding. Observation 156: Chaos level escalating. Future interactions highly dangerous."

Tae Kook returned to his locker, trying to regain composure. His thoughts kept drifting back to the collision, the brief contact, the calmness in her gaze.

"…She's precise. Calm. Dangerous," he whispered. "…And… I can't stop noticing."

Min Ho leaned casually beside him. "So… hand touch. Check. Flustered. Check. Mental chaos. Check. How's the heart, genius?"

"…Ignore you," Tae Kook muttered, closing his locker carefully.

Ae Rin scribbled her final note: "…Observation 157: Kooky's carefully controlled life is being dismantled piece by piece. Observation 158: Soo Min's influence undeniable. Observation 159: Entertainment guaranteed."

As Tae Kook walked to class, he realized quietly that some days—some people—had a way of changing everything, even a perfectly controlled life.

And somehow… he didn't mind it at all.
