Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Adapting to the New Environment

After ensuring his body was fine, Roman quickly immersed himself in his work at Harrenhal.

Although Lady Helaena told Roman there was no need to rush, Roman insisted on his own way, working alongside the Servants and effectively serving as Lady Helaena's Attendant.

Initially, the Servants of Harrenhal showed clear fear toward this outsider with a dragon tail, but given the relationship between Lady Helaena and Roman, no one dared to act on it.

Roman, however, proved his reliability through his actions.

He first humbly sought guidance, learning the proper etiquette from the Etiquette Instructor; after all, he had only seen the great figures of Game of Thrones, and the descriptions of minor characters weren't that precise.

Usually, he worked hard to complete various tasks.

The people of Harrenhal saw that Roman did not become arrogant due to Lady Helaena's care; instead, he was serious and reliable, often helping others.

Gradually, Roman transformed from the "monster" in people's mouths into a role model; the steward would often use Roman as an example to reprimand lazy underlings.

"By the Seven! Look at you all, serving under My Lady for so many years, yet you're not even as good as a young lad?"

"My Lord, we don't have Roman's strength. He seems never to tire, so of course, work is easy for him."

"That is no excuse! Roman is strong, but why can't you even handle simple tasks that require no effort? Don't give me excuses; if you don't finish your tasks, don't even think about eating today!"

Lady Helaena had also been keeping an eye on Roman during this time.

Ever since Robert usurped the throne, her family members had departed one after another, and the entire Hean Family had completely lost the glory it had during the Tourney at Harrenhal.

Looking at Roman, Lady Helaena believed he was a gift from the Seven, sending an obedient and serious child to her side.

"Scholar Tom, how has Roman been performing lately?"

Tom was the scholar by Lady Helaena's side, his house unknown; he had also been monitoring Roman's situation recently.

Rather than Roman's behavior, he was more focused on Roman's physique.

"My Lady, Roman's body is much stronger than an average person's. Not only do his injuries heal easily, but his strength is also far beyond that of a normal man."

"I have already sent an inquiry to The Citadel via raven, but they have no record of such a person."

Scholar Tom's eyes grew increasingly excited as he looked at Roman; in his view, this was an excellent report—if researched properly, his name could be recorded by The Citadel!

Lady Helaena sighed; this was Tom's one flaw—he easily got sidetracked whenever he found something new.

While they were talking, Roman had already come upstairs and reached them.

"Lady Helaena, Scholar Tom, good day. You both look well."

Tom naturally looked at Roman as if he were a research paper, while Lady Helaena was reminded of her deceased children.

For a moment, sadness clouded Lady Helaena's face.

"My Lady?" Roman asked in confusion.

"Ah? Sorry, I was thinking of the past. Child, you have learned various tasks in Harrenhal recently. The Head Maid says you can do more meaningful things; why don't you become my Personal Attendant from now on?"

Hearing Lady Helaena's words, Roman couldn't help but feel puzzled, thinking to himself: "Making me a Personal Attendant so soon? Does Lady Helaena see me as her deceased children?"

Despite his doubts, Roman certainly wouldn't pass up such an opportunity: "It would be my honor, My Lady!"

After that, Roman began learning further Attendant duties; besides taking care of Lady Helaena's daily life, he also had to ensure her safety.

Naturally, Roman was sent to the Drillmaster for training.

The Drillmaster's name was Jessy; he also had no surname but didn't want to be labeled a bastard, so everyone called him Old Jessy.

Old Jessy was a serious old man; when he heard that Lady Helaena was sending Roman to him for training, he didn't think much of it.

"Kid, I'll test your strength before we start training. Come! Have a bout with me."

Old Jessy threw over a wooden stick, which made the surrounding Harrenhal Guards laugh.

"Old Jessy, at least give him a wooden sword. What's with the stick? Do you plan to let this kid poke your backside with it?"

"Hahaha..."

The soldiers' crude joke immediately resonated with those around them.

However, neither Roman nor Old Jessy paid them any mind, instead staring intently at each other.

Old Jessy clearly saw the change in Roman's eyes when he picked up the stick; Roman transformed from a somewhat reserved lad into something dangerous in an instant.

Only then did Old Jessy notice the burly physique beneath Roman's coarse cloth clothes.

"What's going on? Didn't Lady Helaena say this kid just got out of bed not long ago? How did his body recover so fast?"

Despite the slight surprise in his heart, Old Jessy confidently raised his wooden sword and took a stance.

But Roman's first strike snapped him back to reality.

Roman didn't have much combat skill; his stick and sword techniques were learned in a youth class as a child, and he only remembered the basics now.

But his strength was undeniable; Roman's dragon-like body was extremely strong. Old Jessy had heard this from the Servants, but only now did he realize the rumors were true.

The short stick in Roman's hand swung with an afterimage, the sound of breaking air slicing through the atmosphere.

Old Jessy broke into a cold sweat and hurriedly blocked with his wooden sword.

The sound of stick meeting sword exploded across the training ground, and the soldiers who were just laughing moments ago shut their mouths.

A few who had placed bets looked at Old Jessy and Roman with nervous eyes.

"This... this isn't right, is it?"

Roman swung the stick with extreme speed; although there wasn't much technique, his stats were simply too high.

After a few rounds, Old Jessy could manage effective blocks, but his stamina was exhausted, and he could no longer keep it up.

"Stop!!"

In desperation, Old Jessy had to call a halt.

He rubbed his numb wrists and looked at Roman with some lingering fear: "You kid, you were hiding quite a bit. Your strength is indeed enough; if you had any swordsmanship, I really wouldn't have been able to hold out. From now on, you'll train with me. It's better to learn those techniques early to protect Lady Helaena!"

Without giving Roman time to answer, Old Jessy immediately began training him.

It was as if Old Jessy wanted to reclaim the face he had just lost in front of everyone; he started Roman on devilish training right from the get-go.

"Wow, is Old Jessy angry from embarrassment? Training Roman so desperately—how many days do you think Roman can last?"

"I think he can hold out indefinitely. That Roman kid is as tough as his tail."

"I think so too. This is the first time I've seen Old Jessy in such a pathetic state. Why don't we bet again?"

Hearing the soldiers' idle chatter, Old Jessy couldn't take it anymore: "Get lost and go train, or don't even think about eating lunch today!"

Hearing the old Drillmaster's words, the crowd immediately scattered like startled birds, leaving only a trail of laughter.

For Roman, these days were not easy. Whether Old Jessy was trying to give him trouble or not, he started him off with the most intense training plan to wear him down.

Even if Roman's physical fitness far exceeded that of an ordinary person, there was a limit after all.

Now Roman could only pray to gain Old Jessy's approval sooner, to avoid being treated like a savage by him any longer.
