Chapter 1 - Mehmet's life

Chapter 1: The Fall and The Flight

Mehmet had a good life in Turkey. He had a girlfriend he loved, a good school, and loyal friends. But his world shattered in a single day. First, his mother passed away. Just two weeks later, his father went bankrupt, drowning in a debt of 2 million TL. Unable to bear the pressure and the shame of the debt, his father took his own life.

Suddenly, the 2-million-point target was on Mehmet's back. Creditors were at his door, and the girl he loved turned her back on him when he needed her most. With no choice left, Mehmet fled. He took an illegal and dangerous route, eventually finding himself in the cold, towering concrete jungle of New York City. He was completely alone, with zero dollars in his pocket.

Chapter 2: Surviving the Concrete Jungle

Mehmet's English was basic, but his hunger was real. He was starving and desperate for a job. He eventually found work at an old, greasy auto repair shop in the outskirts of the city. The boss looked at him coldly and said, "The harder you work, the more you get paid." Mehmet agreed and started immediately.

He worked from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, his hands covered in oil and grime. At the end of the day, the boss handed him a measly $50.

"Only $50?" Mehmet asked in broken English. "I worked so hard."

The boss snapped back angrily, "You only finished two cars! Move faster and do better. One of the customers already complained about the hood!"

That night, Mehmet slept on a park bench, shivering. The next day, he pushed himself even harder and earned $100. He had $150 now, but in New York, that was nothing. To survive, he stopped sleeping. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, he started working as a night-shift taxi assistant from 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM. His new boss was okay, but he had a short fuse and a dangerous temper.

For ten grueling days, this was his life. He managed to save $1,000. It wasn't much for the amount of work he did, but exhaustion was killing him. He was so sleep-deprived that he couldn't function at the repair shop anymore. Making a strategic choice, he quit both jobs and found a position as a cashier in a 24/7 convenience store. It was time for a new plan.

Chapter 3: The Price of Survival

Mehmet thought he was invincible, but New York's winters are harsh, and human bodies have limits. Two weeks into his new job at the 24/7 market, the world started spinning. The fluorescent lights of the store dimmed, and a sharp pain stabbed his chest.

Suddenly, everything went black.

He woke up to the smell of disinfectant and the sound of a heart monitor. He was in a hospital. The doctor looked at him with pity. "You collapsed from extreme exhaustion and a lung infection," the doctor said. "You need to take these medications three times a day. If you don't, you won't wake up next time."

The medical bill was a nightmare. The medicine alone cost hundreds of dollars. Mehmet felt the familiar weight of debt again—another $150 he didn't have. He realized that working for others would never pay off his 2-million TL debt back home. He needed a bigger move. He needed a gamble.

Chapter 4: The $20,000 Gamble

With his last bit of strength and his 70% intelligence, Mehmet walked into a local bank. He didn't look like a successful businessman, but he had a plan. He used the small savings he had and showed the bank his work history from the repair shop and the market. He convinced them he was a high-potential immigrant with a solid business plan.

To his surprise, the loan was approved: $20,000.

Most people would have spent it on luxury, but Mehmet was different. He used $10,000 to buy a small, beat-up apartment in a rough neighborhood—it was his first real roof in America. With the other $10,000, he saw an abandoned storefront right across from his apartment. It was dirty, broken, and small, but to Mehmet, it looked like a gold mine.

He opened "Mehmet's Corner."

Chapter 5: From Debt to Destiny

The first month was brutal. Mehmet slept only four hours a night, cleaning the shop and stocking the shelves himself. But his mathematical mind helped him price his goods perfectly—cheaper than the big supermarkets but profitable enough to grow.

Word spread. The neighborhood loved the hardworking kid who spoke four languages and always had a smile, despite his past. Within just five months, the shop was booming. He was earning hundreds of dollars every single day.

On the 150th day, Mehmet walked back into that same bank and paid off the entire $20,000 loan. He was officially debt-free in America. He didn't stop there; he expanded the shop into a full-scale supermarket. He went from sleeping on a park bench to owning a business.

Mehmet had won. He started from zero, and now, he had the keys to the city.
