Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 — Water and Fire Sovereigns

The training ground was quiet except for the low hum of magic in the air. Sona stood with her pearl glowing faintly in her palm, her body sore but steady. Riser paced in front of her, eyes sharp, not with the casual arrogance of the old Riser, but the focus of a craftsman about to mold something new.

"Your Haki's awakened," he began, voice calm but heavy with intent. "Your water magic is already among the finest of your generation. But separately, they're just tools. I want more for you, Sona. Something that makes your name feared on the battlefield."

She tilted her head, curious. "And how do you propose we achieve that?"

He grinned, snapping his fingers. A circle of flame flared around him, dancing like living serpents. "By fusing your element and mine. Water and fire. Opposites, yes…" His flames swirled higher, only for Sona to instinctively release a torrent of water to meet it, steam rising between them.

Riser stepped forward through the mist, unbothered. "…But opposites complete each other, don't they?"

The mist cleared, and she saw him smirking. "Together, we'll create a style that's more than either of us alone. A dual sovereignty."

Sona narrowed her eyes, though her lips betrayed the faintest smile. "…Dual sovereignty?"

"Yes." He leaned close, his voice dipping into a teasing whisper. "Imagine it—Fire Sovereign and Water Sovereign. Opposites on paper, yet united in reality. And every time you fight with this technique, everyone will remember: you're mine."

Her cheeks flushed despite her best effort. "You just had to ruin the gravitas with that last line."

"Hah!" He laughed, tilting his head back. "What's the point of power without a little passion?"

Then his expression shifted, serious once again. "Listen. Your water will flow around and through your Haki. Your Observation will let you sense how the battlefield moves like currents. Your Armament can compress that water into blades, shields, even spears that strike harder than steel. And when your Conqueror's surges, it'll make the entire field your ocean—anyone weaker will drown under your will."

Sona's eyes widened as he spoke, her mind already racing through strategies, diagrams forming unconsciously in her thoughts. "…You're… actually designing this for me."

"Of course I am." His gaze softened. "If I want you to stand at my side, I need more than a queen on a chessboard. I need a partner who can burn as bright as me."

Her heart skipped, her composure cracking just enough for a rare, genuine smile. "…Then let's make it real. Together."

Riser stepped back, flames gathering in his hands, water rising at Sona's side. He smirked, tilting his chin at her. "Let's begin, my Water Sovereign."

She raised her chin proudly, the pearl glowing brighter. "Then show me, Fire Sovereign. Let's see if your flames can keep up with my tide."

As their elements collided once more, steam blanketed the training field, carrying with it the faint echo of their laughter—and the birth of something new.
