Chapter 3 - The First Path

Night slowly descended over the Azure Cloud Sect.

The mountains faded into dark silhouettes beneath the dim glow of the moon. The lively shouts from the training grounds gradually disappeared as disciples returned to their quarters.

But the Archive Hall remained lit.

A small oil lamp burned quietly on the wooden table where Lin Mo sat.

The thin black book lay open before him.

Its pages had stopped writing for now. The strange instructions had ended after guiding him to sense that faint warmth within his chest.

Lin Mo placed a hand lightly against his sternum again.

The warmth was still there.

Subtle.

Gentle.

Like a small ember hidden beneath ashes.

In ordinary cultivation manuals, disciples first learned to sense spiritual energy in the world around them. Only after long practice would they attempt to guide that energy into their bodies.

But the black book had done something different.

It had guided him inward.

Toward the hidden pathways within his own body.

Lin Mo closed his eyes again.

He slowed his breathing, just as the book had instructed.

Inhale.

Exhale.

The quiet rhythm of breath filled the hall.

Gradually, his awareness sharpened.

The faint warmth within his chest became clearer.

It drifted slowly through a thin channel beneath his ribs before fading again.

Lin Mo opened his eyes.

His gaze moved toward the diagram drawn on the second page of the book.

The strange network of meridians was still there.

He leaned closer to study it.

One of the smaller lines in the diagram curved gently through the chest before extending toward the left shoulder.

Lin Mo's expression shifted slightly.

The warmth he had felt moments ago had moved along almost the same path.

Coincidence?

Or guidance?

Lin Mo placed his finger lightly on that line in the diagram.

A new sentence slowly appeared beneath it.

"The First Path is not force."

"It is recognition."

Lin Mo read the words carefully.

Recognition.

He leaned back in his chair, deep in thought.

Most cultivation methods described guiding spiritual energy through the meridians by willpower. Practitioners forced the energy to circulate through the body until the pathways gradually expanded.

But this book seemed to suggest something else.

Instead of forcing the path open…

One should first become aware of it.

Understand it.

Only then would the path respond.

Lin Mo looked again at the small ember-like warmth inside his chest.

Perhaps that was the beginning.

He took another slow breath and closed his eyes.

The Archive Hall remained completely still.

Dust floated through the air.

The oil lamp flickered softly.

Minutes passed.

Then something changed.

The faint warmth stirred again.

This time, Lin Mo did not try to guide it.

He simply watched.

Observed.

The warmth drifted slowly along the same thin pathway he had noticed earlier. It moved upward toward his shoulder before fading once more.

Lin Mo opened his eyes.

His heartbeat quickened slightly.

It worked.

Even without forcing anything, the warmth had moved along the hidden path.

He turned his attention back to the book.

Another line of text had appeared.

"You have seen the First Path."

"Return to it again."

Lin Mo remained silent for a long moment.

This cultivation method was different from anything he had read in the sect's manuals.

Those manuals described strength, control, and dominance over spiritual energy.

This book spoke only of observation and understanding.

It almost felt less like training…

And more like studying.

Which suited Lin Mo perfectly.

He had never been the type to rush forward blindly.

The quiet library had already taught him the value of patience.

Lin Mo closed the book gently.

The lamp flame flickered as he stood up.

Through the tall windows, he could see the moon rising above the distant mountain peaks.

Most disciples were likely resting now.

Tomorrow they would continue their training, competing for attention and resources.

Meanwhile, Lin Mo walked slowly between the tall shelves of the Archive Hall.

Thousands of books surrounded him.

Ancient records.

Forgotten knowledge.

Travel journals written by cultivators who had seen distant lands.

Lin Mo brushed his fingers lightly along the spines of the books.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

Perhaps the mysterious book was not the only source of knowledge here.

If cultivation truly required understanding…

Then the Archive Hall might hold far more value than anyone realized.

Lin Mo eventually returned to the table and carefully wrapped the black book in a plain cloth.

He opened a hidden drawer beneath the desk and placed it inside.

Then he closed the drawer quietly.

No one needed to know about it.

Not yet.

Lin Mo extinguished the oil lamp.

Darkness slowly filled the hall.

Only moonlight remained, casting pale silver lines across the floor.

As he walked toward the door, Lin Mo paused briefly and looked back at the endless rows of books.

Somewhere within those shelves, centuries of forgotten knowledge slept quietly.

And now…

For the first time since arriving in this world…

Lin Mo had begun to awaken something of his own.

The First Path had been seen.

Many more still waited in silence.
