Hidden Feelings

The rain fell softly over the quiet streets, tapping against the windows of the small library. Inside, the smell of old books and fresh coffee filled the air.

Maya sat at her usual table near the window, pretending to read, but her eyes kept drifting toward the door. She didn't know why she was waiting… or maybe she did.

A few minutes later, the door opened with a soft chime.

It was Arjun.

He shook the rain from his jacket and looked around the room. When his eyes met Maya's, he smiled gently and walked over.

"Waiting for someone?" he asked, sitting across from her.

Maya quickly looked down at her book. "No… just reading."

Arjun chuckled. "You've been on the same page for ten minutes."

Her cheeks turned pink. She hated how easily he could read her.

They had been friends for three years. They studied together, laughed together, and shared countless cups of coffee in this same library. Yet there was something Maya never dared to say.

Her hidden feelings.

Every time Arjun smiled, her heart felt lighter. Every time he talked about leaving the city for his dream job, her chest tightened with fear.

"Hey," Arjun said softly, interrupting her thoughts. "You're very quiet today."

"Just tired," she replied.

He watched her for a moment, as if trying to understand something unspoken.

Outside, thunder rolled across the sky. The library grew quieter as people began leaving.

Finally Arjun spoke again, his voice a little hesitant.

"Maya… can I ask you something?"

She nodded.

"Why do I feel like you're hiding something from me?"

Her heart started beating faster.

For a moment she thought about telling him everything—how she had loved him silently for years, how every small moment with him meant the world to her.

But the words stayed locked inside.

Instead, she smiled softly and said, "Some feelings are better left unspoken."

Arjun looked at her, surprised.

Then he leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"You know," he said quietly, "I was hoping you'd say something different."

Maya blinked. "What do you mean?"

Arjun smiled—this time a little nervously.

"Because… I've been hiding something too."

The rain outside grew heavier as Maya's heart skipped a beat.

"Maybe," Arjun said, "our hidden feelings aren't so different after all."

And for the first time, the silence between them felt full of possibilities. 🌧️✨
