The rain had been falling all afternoon, drumming softly on the city streets and coating every car and pavement in a glossy shine. Luna Valdez tugged her oversized cream sweater tighter around her shoulders, gripping her sketchbook as she hurried down the sidewalk. The scent of wet concrete and coffee mingled in the air her favorite kind of rainy evening.

She ducked into the small café tucked between two taller buildings, shaking off the droplets that clung to her hair. The bell above the door chimed, and the warm aroma of roasted coffee beans wrapped around her like a soft blanket. It was her sanctuary the one place where she could sit quietly, sketching strangers as they came and went, all while staying invisible herself.

Finding her usual corner by the window, Luna set down her bag and opened her sketchbook. Her pencil glided across the page, capturing the curve of a stranger's shoulder, the way someone tucked their hair behind their ear, or the faint, tired expression in their eyes. She loved observing people it was safer than letting anyone observe her.

A sudden hush fell over the café as the door opened again. Luna glanced up, expecting another student seeking refuge from the rain. Instead, she froze.

He was tall. Taller than anyone she usually noticed. Black hair, slightly messy, framing a sharp jawline. His gray eyes scanned the room quickly, but when they landed on an empty table near hers, he paused. There was something in the way he moved, like the night itself had taken human form quiet, distant, and impossible to ignore.

Luna's hand froze on the pencil. Her heart thumped painfully in her chest, though she had no idea why. Something about him his presence felt like a story waiting to be told, a secret waiting to be revealed. She looked away quickly, pretending to check her sketch, but the boy had already claimed a seat across the room, his coat still dripping with rain.

She couldn't stop noticing him, even though she didn't know his name. He carried himself differently from the rest of the café's regulars. There was a weight in his silence, and a strange gentleness hidden behind his sharp features.

For the first time in a long while, Luna found herself drawing someone not because she wanted to study them, but because she wanted to know them.

Minutes passed. He didn't glance around, didn't take out a laptop or a phone. He simply sat, staring out the window at the rain sliding down in rivers across the glass. Something about the way he seemed untouchable, yet oddly fragile, made her chest tighten.

A soft voice interrupted her thoughts. "Your sketchbook… you draw people like they're alive."

Luna blinked. The boy had walked over, standing right beside her now. The café felt smaller, warmer, but also heavier, as if every drop of rain outside had followed him inside.

"I… thank you," she murmured, looking down at her hands.

He crouched slightly to be closer to her eye level, though his expression remained unreadable. "Do you… notice things no one else sees?" His voice was calm, smooth, and for some reason, it made her heart race even faster.

"I… maybe," Luna admitted. She wasn't used to talking to strangers, especially not ones like him.

He nodded slowly, as if that answered everything. Then he moved back to his seat, eyes returning to the rainy street outside.

Luna opened her sketchbook again, her pencil shaking slightly as she tried to focus. But every line she drew seemed to miss something. She wanted to capture him the quiet storm, the mystery hidden behind gray eyes but every attempt felt inadequate.

The rain outside showed no sign of stopping. And Luna had a sudden, unshakable feeling that her life had changed in ways she couldn't yet understand.

Because sometimes, when the rain met the stars, something extraordinary happened. And tonight, Luna had met both.
