Chapter 6 - First confrontation

"Are you ready?" Yang Bin asked seriously as he looked at the others.

"Yeah." The group nodded nervously.

Although Zhao Kun and the other two were somewhat unhappy, Yang Bin was simply too forceful. In the end, they had no choice but to compromise.

"I'll count to three. Lao Hei, you guys move the ladder when I say three."

"Alright." Lao Hei and Skinny Monkey's palms were already sweating as they gripped the ladder.

"1…"

"2…"

"3!"

As soon as Yang Bin finished speaking, Lao Hei and Skinny Monkey immediately pulled the ladder away.

Bang!

With a loud crash, the iron door burst open, and two blood-covered zombies rushed straight onto the rooftop.

This was the first time Yang Bin and Chen Hao had seen zombies up close. The blood-red eyes were chilling, and the stench of blood rushing toward them made their stomachs churn.

Fortunately, they had prepared themselves mentally. Although uncomfortable, they were not so terrified that they froze in place.

The moment the two zombies rushed in, they immediately locked onto the people on the rooftop and charged toward them.

Lao Hei and Skinny Monkey lifted the ladder and quickly shoved it against one of the zombies, pushing it hard against the wall.

The zombie clawed and struggled wildly, but there was no way a single zombie could overpower two people. In the end, it was pinned firmly against the wall, unable to break free.

At the same time, Yang Bin and the other two rushed toward the second zombie.

"Roar!"

With a roar, the zombie lunged directly at Yang Bin, who was in front.

Yang Bin quickly sidestepped, narrowly dodging the attack, and then swung the steel pipe in his hand hard at the zombie's head.

Thud!

A dull sound echoed. Yang Bin even felt his arm go numb from the impact. Yet the zombie seemed completely unaffected and lunged at him again.

"Damn it! Don't zombies have weak heads in the movies? Why the hell is this thing so hard!?" Yang Bin complained as he hurriedly backed away.

At that moment, Chen Hao rushed over and smashed a brick hard against the zombie's head.

Bang!

The brick shattered instantly. Dark red, foul-smelling blood began flowing from the zombie's head. Clearly, this blow had been even heavier than Yang Bin's strike with the steel pipe, and the zombie's attention was successfully diverted.

Chen Hao immediately turned and ran.

The zombie instantly abandoned Yang Bin and began chasing Chen Hao.

Just then, Zhao Kun rushed in from the side and also swung a brick at the zombie. Unfortunately, he missed the head and hit the shoulder instead.

The zombie didn't even glance at Zhao Kun and continued chasing Chen Hao relentlessly.

The rooftop wasn't large. Soon Chen Hao was forced to the edge. Just as the zombie was about to catch him—

his figure suddenly disappeared.

Zhao Kun, who was following behind, nearly had his eyes pop out.

"W-Where… where did he go!?"

Yang Bin, however, showed no surprise and immediately chased after the zombie.

Having lost its target, the zombie quickly locked its gaze onto Yang Bin again.

With the steel pipe in his hand, Yang Bin felt somewhat confident. He kept striking the zombie repeatedly, preventing it from getting close.

At that moment Zhao Kun ran over and asked in shock,

"Where's Chen Hao!?"

"I'm right here."

Chen Hao's figure suddenly appeared again.

"You… you just… disappeared!?" Zhao Kun stammered.

"Look at you getting scared. Haven't you ever seen a magic trick?" Chen Hao said casually.

"..."

"You're telling me that was a magic trick!?" Zhao Kun shouted with wide eyes.

"What else? You think I can turn invisible?" Chen Hao rolled his eyes.

"..."

"Stop chatting! Find a way to push it down! I can't hold it much longer!" Yang Bin shouted urgently.

Zhao Kun suppressed the countless questions in his mind and grabbed another brick, preparing to help.

"No need to come closer. We're already at the edge. One of you just kick it down," Yang Bin said.

Chen Hao and Zhao Kun looked at each other. Finally, Chen Hao spoke.

"I'll do it."

He stared closely at the zombie fighting with Yang Bin, took a few running steps, then rushed forward and delivered a powerful flying kick.

The forceful kick sent the zombie straight over the railing and off the rooftop.

"Nice!" Yang Bin praised.

The three immediately leaned over the edge to look down.

Bang!

With a dull thud, the zombie slammed heavily onto the ground below. Dark red blood spread from its body.

Just as they thought the zombie must be dead—

it slowly stood up again, swaying unsteadily. It looked around in confusion before wandering off like the other zombies, searching for prey.

"!!!"

"That thing didn't die!?"

All three stared in disbelief.

"Damn… these zombies are disgusting," Zhao Kun complained.

"Stop complaining. Let's deal with the other one first," Yang Bin said.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Lao Hei and Skinny Monkey were still pressing the ladder against the zombie, holding it firmly against the wall despite its violent struggles.

By the time Yang Bin and the others arrived, the two of them were already drenched in sweat.

"Let go, then we'll all push it out together with the ladder," Yang Bin said.

"Okay."

With five people against one zombie, things were much easier.

The moment the ladder was released, the zombie lunged toward them.

The group lifted the ladder and forced the zombie back toward the edge of the rooftop before pushing it straight over.

Bang!

Another heavy thud echoed below.

Everyone rushed to the edge again and looked down.

This time, the zombie lay in a pool of blood—and did not get back up.

"Huh? Why did this one die?" Zhao Kun asked in confusion.

"Its head is completely smashed. Of course it died," Chen Hao replied.

"Right…"

Yang Bin nodded thoughtfully.

"Looks like the movies weren't lying. If you want to kill a zombie, you really do have to destroy its head."

"Close the door. Let's rest for a bit."

They placed the ladder back against the door and collapsed onto the ground.

Although the fight had only lasted a short time, the mental pressure had been enormous.

They were just ordinary college students. The fact that they dared to fight zombies at all meant their mental strength was already impressive.

Now that it was over, their bodies trembled just thinking about it.

"Ah—!"

Suddenly, a sharp inhale was heard.

Chen Hao was clutching his leg, pain visible on his face.

"What's wrong?" Yang Bin hurried over.

Chen Hao carefully pulled up his pant leg.

Three long bloody scratches were revealed on his foot.

"What happened!?" Yang Bin asked nervously.

"I think… when I kicked that zombie earlier, it scratched me while flailing around," Chen Hao said with a bitter smile.

The air instantly froze.

Zhao Kun and the other two quickly moved away from them.

Yang Bin frowned, staring at the wound on Chen Hao's leg with a grave expression.

Seeing everyone's reaction, Chen Hao quickly realized something.

His face turned pale as death, and he trembled.

"Brother Bin… am I… going to turn into a zombie?"

"You won't. Don't think like that. You'll be fine," Yang Bin said, trying to comfort him.

"How could I not? Everyone online says if you get bitten or scratched by a zombie, you'll turn soon," Skinny Monkey said.

"Shut up! No one asked you to speak!" Yang Bin snapped angrily.

"But that's the truth! You think pretending otherwise changes anything!?" Zhao Kun retorted.

"This is my business. If you keep talking, I swear I'll make sure none of you can talk ever again!" Yang Bin picked up the steel pipe, his eyes icy.

"What? You think you can take on three of us?" Zhao Kun said without backing down. He had been unhappy with Yang Bin for a while.

"You're welcome to try," Yang Bin said coldly.
