Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Felicia sat with her entire body strained. She had always harbored a secret fear of Max, the kind that results from being in the presence of someone in a position of authority. She never dared to respond when his face became icy. But now she made herself take a breath. The divorce was just a few days away. He would soon be free of her, as he had desired. Why should she be afraid of him, really, when there was nothing left to hope for?Are you implying that I erred? His tone was abrasive, cold, and sarcastic.

Felicia's nails dug firmly into her palms as she met his gaze. She spoke steadily and a bit louder than before. Mr. Hawthorne, you blamed me without even inquiring as to what transpired. Shouldn't I have an opportunity to defend myself? Max's face became even more icy. "This is exactly what you deserve." She felt as though something had broken inside of her. Her cheeks lost color, and her heart twisted horribly.

The door to the lounge opened at that moment. A girl wearing a pale pink silk slip dress came out.Her skin was so delicate that it seemed to gleam, and her beautiful dark hair was shiny and silky. Felicia couldn't stop staring at her gorgeous face. "Max!" Like a balmy breeze following a downpour, the girl's voice was gentle and lovely.

At last, Felicia had a clear view of her. She was breathtaking, the kind of beauty that made Felicia feel invisible and unremarkable. She barely had time to glance before Max's stern voice pierced the atmosphere."Leave!" Felicia bit back the feelings that threatened to overflow as she ripped her gaze away. She turned and left the office. She heard the girl's soft, peaceful voice as she shut the door behind her.

In a matter of seconds, Max's rage subsided. Felicia raised her head and blinked away the tears that burned in her eyes. She rushed to an empty, silent stairwell, clutched the chilly railing, and at last started crying. She sobbed so deeply that her stomach ached, and her entire body trembled. It was like scraping bone to extract an eight-year love from her heart. However, she assured herself that it was alright.

She would move on one day. She would forget him one day. She had no idea how long she had been there. She nearly ran into the girl in pink when she eventually gathered herself and went back upstairs. Every every element of the girl's expensive brand outfit was flawless. She had grown up surrounded by wealth and love, as anyone could see. Max's right-hand man, Isaac, was personally accompanying her.

The girl grinned and approached Felicia as soon as she spotted her. She came to a halt before Felicia and murmured softly. "Now everything is OK. Max will no longer be angry with you. She extracted a pearl from her handbag and placed it in Felicia's hand. "This is for you. Don't be depressed. Don't forget to tend to your facial cut. You know that a female doesn't look beautiful with scars? She was both lovely and compassionate. Felicia felt like a shadow beside her, a joke lurking in the shadows. Felicia remained silent as she stood there. Isaac scowled and spoke in a chilly tone.

"Aren't you going to thank Miss Curtis?" Curtis was her last name. Andrea Curtis pulled back her hand and whispered, "It's okay. "Let's go." They both went out. Felicia remained motionless, gazing at the pearl she was holding. It was silver-blue, nearly shining, and perfect. Like the girl who gave it to her, it is pure. Miss Curtis, she wondered.was aware of Max's marriage. Felicia printed off another copy of the original file and placed it in front of Sandy at her workstation.

Sandy appeared completely innocent. She actually had a proud expression.Sandy boasted, "Now you see what kind of girl is good enough for Mr. Hawthrone." Felicia tossed the paper onto the desk. "So, neither you nor I are good enough. You only know these low-cost tricks. That's not going to get you there. You're in your thirties. Perhaps it's time to quit running after fairy tales and find a spouse."
