Digimon: The Spirit Evolution

Prologue Arc: The DNA Seed

Chapter 8: The White Spark

The underground air of the DATS headquarters was sterile, smelling of ionized oxygen and the constant, low-frequency hum of cooling fans. For Izumi Midoriya, the transition from the chaotic, salt-crusted winds of the beach to this subterranean fortress felt like stepping into a different reality. Here, the world was measured in gigabytes and biometrics.

"The training floor is active," Principal Nezu announced, his voice echoing through the intercom system of the Observation Deck. "Young Eri, please step into the center of the Simulation Chamber. Izumi, Himiko—you will act as her anchors. A Spirit's first evolution is a heavy burden for one so young."

Eri Blanc stood in the middle of a vast, white room. The floor was etched with hexagonal patterns that pulsed with a soft, blue light. She looked tiny, her oversized DATS-issue jumper hanging off her shoulders, her small hand white-knuckled around her white-and-pink D-Tector.

"I... I can hear her," Eri whispered, her voice trembling. "The lady in the white hood. she says the 'darkness' is trying to find me again."

"That's just the simulation, Eri," Melissa Shield said, her fingers dancing across a holographic interface next to Nezu. "I'm projecting a 'Glitched' shadow—a ghost of the facility you were rescued from. It's not real, but your Spirit needs to know you're ready to fight back."

From the corners of the room, dark, pixelated shapes began to manifest. They took the form of the white-masked scientists who had haunted Eri's nightmares, their bodies flickering with jagged, violet data-leaks. They didn't have faces, only glowing "ERROR" symbols where their eyes should be.

"Eri, look at us!" Izumi shouted from the observation rail, her green hair caught in the artificial intake vents. "You aren't in that lab anymore! You're with the wind and the shadow! We're right here!"

Himiko Toga leaned over the rail, her black D-Tector glowing in sympathy. "Show them you aren't a 'specimen,' Eri! Show them you're a Sister!"

The digital shadows lunged. Eri let out a small, sharp cry, and for a moment, the light in the room dimmed. Her D-Tector began to emit a high-pitched, screeching alarm.

"She's crashing!" Melissa yelled. "The trauma is blocking the Spirit! If I don't shut it down, the feedback will fry her nervous system!"

"No! Wait!" All Might held up a hand, his eyes fixed on the small girl. "Look at the D-Tector, Melissa."

In the center of the room, Eri wasn't backing away anymore. She had fallen to her knees, but she was holding the device to her chest. A single, pure tear fell onto the screen, and the "ERROR" symbols on the shadows began to turn a blinding, holy white.

"I... I won't let you hurt anyone else," Eri sobbed, but her voice gained a strange, resonant echo. "I am the light that heals the world. EXECUTE! SPIRIT EVOLUTION!"

The room didn't just brighten; it vanished into a void of pure, crystalline radiance. From the center of the light, a figure emerged. She wore a pristine white habit with rabbit-eared hoods and carried a golden staff topped with a glowing cross.

"SISTERMON BLANC!"

The warrior didn't attack with fury. She raised her staff, and a soft, rhythmic chime filled the air.

"Protect Wave!"

A dome of white energy expanded from Blanc, touching the digital shadows. As the light hit them, they didn't explode—they simply dissolved into beautiful, fluttering cherry blossoms of data. The "Glitched" noise in the room was replaced by a sense of profound peace.

Sistermon Blanc stood in the center of the silent chamber, her head bowed in a prayer of victory.

"Incredible," Nezu murmured, his paws clasped together. "Her purification is even more efficient than Izumi's. Where Izumi 'washes' the data, Eri 'rewrites' the memory of the trauma itself."

The transformation receded, leaving Eri standing there. She looked exhausted, but for the first time, the haunted look in her eyes had been replaced by a spark of defiance. She looked up at Izumi and Himiko and gave a small, tired thumbs-up.

"Three down," Melissa said, her breath hitching as she looked at her tablet. "But guys... we have a problem. The 'Iron Maiden' unit the Commission sent out? It didn't go to the beach. It's headed for the I-Island transport hub."

Melissa's face went pale. "My father is on that transport. And so is my best friend, Mei Hatsume. They're using them as bait to lure us out of DATS."

Izumi's eyes hardened. She looked at Himiko and the newly awakened Eri. "Nezu, we can't stay in the bunker if they're hurting our friends. DATS was made to handle accidents, right?"

"Indeed," Nezu smiled, though it was a sharp, dangerous expression. "And I believe a 'Digital Accident' is about to occur at the transport hub. Ready the stealth jet. It's time for the DigiDestined to make their first official move."
