Chapter 12: The Hidden Camera
Elias waited until Julianna went to a briefing with the Chief. He sat at her desk. He knew he had three minutes, maybe four.
He didn't look for files. Julianna was too smart for paper trails. He looked at the underside of her desk. Nothing. He checked the frame of her computer monitor. Nothing.
Then he saw it. A small, black speck on the wall clock behind her chair. A pinhole lens.
She wasn't just working with Elias; she was recording him. She was watching his reactions to every piece of evidence they "found" together.
He pulled out his phone and sent a blind text to the number Kaelen had used: [SHE HAS THE OFFICE BUGGED. THE LEDGER IS SAFE. MEET AT THE CLOCKTOWER AT MIDNIGHT.]
He deleted the sent message. As he stood up, Julianna walked back in. She was holding a folder.
"Good news, Elias," she beamed. "The ballistics came back on the round that killed Miller. It's a match for a rifle registered to a private security firm owned by the Senator. We have him."
Elias felt a chill. The "Ghost" had used a .338 Lapua. The Senator's men used .338 Lapua. Julianna wasn't just "cleaning" the past—she was framing the Senator for the murders she and her brother were committing.
"That's incredible," Elias said, forced a smile. "Let's go get the warrant."
