Chapter 1 - Chapter 01:The Lost Rhythm

The hands of the clock hanging above the whiteboard moved with a monotonous tick that echoed through the empty classroom. "Tick.. Tock.. Tick.. Tock." These rhythmic beats pierced the heavy silence left behind after the students had departed nearly ten minutes ago.

Shiragumo Eiji sat in his usual seat in the back corner, where growing shadows intertwined with the fading orange glow of the sun as it began its inevitable daily descent toward the horizon.

His body appeared relaxed, but his mind was in a state of supreme cosmic alertness. His right eye flickered with a strange faintness—a mark resembling a delicate crack in the fabric of reality, extending coldly from his eye socket down to just above his heart, like the root of an ancient tree from another dimension trying to settle within his human chest.

Eiji (Inner Thought): "Exactly 5:30 PM. Three hours and ten minutes ago, this light flooded the entire desk, warming its surface. And now... it begins its silent retreat before the army of darkness."

Eiji (Inner Thought): "Everything in this existence follows a precise and rigid mathematical system. Randomness and coincidence only exist in the imaginations of those who lack the patience to observe. The world is nothing but a set of massive gears turning with an ancient, unerring rhythm."

He moved his left hand slowly, where a simple copper ring rested around his finger. He felt the smooth chill of the metal against his skin—a ring he had bought from a street peddler years ago and had never been able to remove.

The stillness of his deep contemplation was broken by a familiar voice. His friend stood at the classroom door, bag slung over his shoulder, looking at him with a mixture of bewilderment and the usual pity.

Friend: "Eiji, are you still sitting here like a statue? School ended a while ago. Did you give up on those complex chemistry equations and decide to become a hermit here until morning?"

Eiji slowly turned his gaze toward the door. His eyes didn't reflect the exhaustion of a long school day; rather, they held a profound depth that made anyone looking into them feel inexplicably small.

Eiji: "Chemistry isn't as complex as you think. It's just a precise arrangement of elements to trigger a reaction at a specific time. I am simply observing that arrangement—the stillness that precedes radical change. It's a beautiful, calm rhythm if you listen with your heart, my friend."

His friend smiled and shook his head in slight despair; Eiji always saw the world from a different angle, speaking in riddles of time that only he understood.

They left the school building together. As they walked down a narrow side street, Eiji suddenly stopped in front of a strange shop he had never noticed before.

The shop looked as if it had fallen through a hole in time—a weathered wooden sign, dusty glass covering antiques, and ancient clocks upon which time itself had feasted.

Eiji suddenly felt a sharp sting, as if a needle heated by fire was being driven into his mark. A painful pulse beneath his skin made his vision blur and flicker for a moment.

Eiji (Inner Thought): "What is this feeling? There is a lost rhythm in this place... a missing beat trying to return to its original spot. A void in the melody of existence is calling out to me frantically."

He reached out slowly and cautiously toward an ancient copper pocket watch, hanging by a thin thread on the verge of snapping, covered in thick green rust.

The moment his cold fingertips touched the heat of the ancient, dusty copper, a silent explosion occurred that changed the course of his life forever.

The copper ring on his left hand suddenly glowed with an intense celestial blue light, engulfing the area. The rusted watch in his hands transformed into a mass of glowing liquid energy that began to orbit his body with maddening speed.

The System (Stern Digital Voice): "Eternal Mark Holder identified... Time Gate System: ONLINE... Initiating Instant Dimensional Transition sequence."

Eiji didn't even have the luxury of screaming from the shock. The watch turned into something resembling a small black hole, sucking every atom of his physical being in the blink of an eye.

He felt as if his body was being squeezed through a narrow tube of pure light, stretching and contracting in a vacuum, until he suddenly fell hard onto an extremely cold and solid floor.

He opened his eyes with difficulty to find himself in a place without a horizon. The sky was a transparent crystal where giant temporal orbs floated, and the gravity here made his body feel strangely light.

Eiji (Awestruck, examining his body): "What is this strange place? And what is this outfit I'm wearing? I feel as though the pulse energy in my veins is trying to shatter my bones and explode my body from within!"

He heard steady, confident footsteps behind him. He turned in terror to find a woman of sharp, authoritative beauty. Her long silver hair hung behind her like a waterfall of light, and her violet eyes carried the wisdom of thousands of years.

Atsurai: "Stop asking obvious questions like a child. You are now in the presence of the Great Cronoverse. Your being has been officially converted to become the new Dimensional Guardian—one of the evolved race who protect the fabric of existence."

Eiji: "Atsurai? Is that really your name? And why was I chosen? There are millions of other humans!"

Atsurai: "The mark in your right eye is not a mere deformity. It is the 'Soul Print' placed in you by the Time Gate System since the moment of your birth. You are an Etheron by latent power, and now it is time to awaken the sleeping giant within you."

She gestured toward a small book floating quietly beside him. Its cover was made of ancient leather, adorned with symbols that moved and changed automatically.

Atsurai: "This is your Temporal Grimoire, the source of your power. It contains a hundred spells of the great Etheron secrets. Learn to bend them to your will, or die trying. The choice is yours."

Before Eiji could process these facts, the crystal sky was suddenly torn by a crimson strike. From the cracks emerged a terrifying entity with no features other than pure shadow.

Atsurai: "It is Code Phantom, the cursed Ghost of the Cipher, who seeks to turn all organized rhythms in the universes into eternal silence within the dark dimension of Void."

Phantom of the Cipher (Distorted Voice): "There is no need for this tedious repetition of seconds and minutes... The Void is the only true harmony... Surrender to the emptiness!"

The entity waved its hand, and from its shadow, a black gelatinous energy emerged, quickly taking the form of a ninja warrior named "Raiko."

Atsurai: "It is a malicious echo born from the womb of the Void. Fight with everything you have, or he will erase your existence entirely! Use the pulse energy latent in your ring!"

Raiko lunged at Eiji with supernatural speed, moving like black lightning cutting through the cold Cronoverse air.

Eiji gathered his courage and reached toward the book, which opened automatically before his face to a page glowing with a dazzling blue light.

Eiji: "I feel an immense heat coursing through my veins... I feel an indescribable power! Take this!"

Eiji unleashed a wave of raw energy, but Raiko dodged it with impossible agility and delivered a counter-strike with his blade. It struck Eiji's arm deeply; crimson blood flowed, and Eiji felt a searing pain.

Eiji (In pain): "Argh! This isn't an illusion... the pain is very real!"

He fell to the ground. As Raiko approached to deliver the finishing blow, Eiji's left hand gripped the energy blade firmly. Suddenly, his right eye ignited with a white light that blinded the battlefield.

Eiji (Inner Thought): "I see you clearly now... I see the fatal hesitation in your next strike. I see the hidden rhythm that moves your cursed shadow!"

With a resounding cry that shook the ground, Eiji cast the "Temporal Deceleration" spell from his book. Raiko was suddenly forced into slow motion, allowing Eiji to direct an energy blast from his palm that shattered the Echo's body.

Eiji was panting heavily, his body trembling from exhaustion, while the ring began to emit loud, frantic red warning pulses.

Atsurai: "Your vital energy has hit rock bottom! If you stay here another second, the Cronoverse will absorb the essence of your soul! Return to your world now!"

The ground split beneath his feet to reveal a portal of pure light. Eiji was pulled into it forcefully, watching Atsurai's face fade away.

He woke up suddenly in his bed, gasping for breath, cold sweat covering his forehead. His phone beside him lit up with the "Time Gate System" logo.

Eiji (Inner Thought): "The rhythm... it was real. Everything was real."

Atsurai (Voice message from the phone): "Next time, don't be a fool and drain all your energy in one strike. Use the healing spell. Train well, Eiji. The Void has smelled your blood, and it will never stop until it finds you."
