Synopsis
Is solitude a sanctuary, or a self-imposed prison?" Mushi Akira has always felt like an outsider. To him, humans are nothing more than hollow images—parasites feeding on a world he no longer wishes to be part of. Driven by a profound sense of misery, he retreats to a secluded cabin, seeking solace in the eternal silence of the pine forest. But silence is easily broken. One moonlit night, a hauntingly beautiful melody leads him deep into a forest that glows with its own mystical light. There, he encounters Raima, a sharp-tongued and ethereal Forest Spirit. Seeing the shattered soul of a man who belongs nowhere, Raima opens a gateway to a realm beyond human comprehension. Transported from a bleak existence to a world of wonder and ancient magic, Mushi begins a journey to discover the true meaning of life. But in a land where spirits reign and shadows speak, can a "miserable human" truly find where he belongs? Or is his sorrow an anchor that no magic can break?

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Gateway to Another Misery

I had always been alone. Family, friends... they were nothing more than parasites living on the fringes of my existence. A persistent sense of solitude had always haunted me—not as a void, but as a shield. I felt the bitterness of being different, as if everyone around me were merely hollow, faded images in my mind. Solitude was my only sanctuary, the only place safe from their greedy eyes.

Greed, anger, love, and happiness—these were human traits that remained riddles I could never solve, nor did I ever care to. Thus, I made my final choice: I would seclude myself from this world.

After a long search, I found a small cabin nestled near a pine forest. It was warm, isolated, and guarded by a silence that repelled the deafening noise of humanity. I spent months there. Every night, I would walk along the edge of the forest, guided by the moonlight that paved my way. I never felt lonely; instead, I finally felt that I belonged to this stillness—that this was my eternal place.

But one night, while I was immersed in my usual silence... I heard it.

It was a strange, wondrous sound. It wasn't a cry, nor did it resemble weeping. It was a dreamlike melody, a tone that could captivate even the most indifferent of hearts. Without realizing it, my feet led me toward the source. I ventured deep into the forest, which seemed eerily luminous that night. The moonlight wasn't the source, for its rays could not pierce the thick canopy; rather, the leaves themselves glowed as if they were magical candles.

Exhaustion eventually took hold of me. It felt as though that dim light and dreamlike voice were a carefully laid trap. I fell into a deep sleep before I knew it.

When I woke up under a massive tree, the voice had grown stronger, filling the air around me. I looked right and left but found no one. Suddenly, as I lay on my back, my eyes fell upon her.

Perched on a nearby branch was a being with emerald hair and translucent, snow-white wings. She wore a green dress that looked as if it were woven from forest leaves with threads of pure magic. She looked like a mystical butterfly, unlike anything I had ever seen. Awe froze me in place, and my pupils dilated in wonder. I felt like a prisoner of a dream I never wanted to leave.

"Who... who are you?" I asked, my voice trembling with disbelief.

She didn't answer. I repeated my question, struggling to grasp what I was seeing:

"Who are you? Are you truly real?"

The singing stopped abruptly. A mocking laugh escaped her lips, and she spoke with a sharp tone:

"Can't you see me right in front of you, you fool?"

"I see you," I replied, stunned. "But I cannot tell if you are real or a figment of my imagination... a human or something else. What are you?"

She tilted her head with an air of arrogance. "Hmm, you really are a fool. Are there any humans with beauty such as mine?"

"No... does that mean you aren't human? Should I be afraid?"

She sighed in annoyance. "Stop joking! Who fears beauty? Now, be silent and let me finish the 'Song of the Full Moon.' Do not interrupt me again."

Silence reigned for several minutes as I watched her dissolve into her melody. Then, without me asking, she spoke:

"I am Raima, the spirit and protector of this forest. And you... why have you disturbed me on this night of all nights?"

I answered, trying to regain my composure:

"I am Mushi Akira. It is an honor, Spirit Raima. I am truly breathless... I had only heard of spirits in fairy tales. I never imagined I would ever meet one face-to-face."You have met a spirit face-to-face. Now, leave this forest and go back to where you came from. You do not belong here."

Those words, despite their simplicity, pierced Mushi's heavy heart. He had always felt like an outcast with no place to call home, but what hurt most was hearing this rejection from both humans and spirits alike. Mushi stood there, his head bowed toward the earth, whispering to himself:

"I don't belong to the human world, nor do I have a place in the world of spirits... Where, then, is my sanctuary?"

The Forest Spirit gazed at him, and for the first time, his profound sadness reached her. She spoke in a sharp yet strangely considerate tone:

"Hey... I didn't mean what I said earlier. You can stay as long as you want. It makes no difference to me."

"Thank you," he replied softly, "but I think I shall return to my home."

In that moment, something shifted within Raima. She had initially taken him for a depraved human seeking to hunt a fairy for black market sorcerers. Instead, she saw a broken soul searching for a place to belong. She decided then that the only way was to bring him into her world.

Suddenly, the ground began to tremble. A majestic light erupted from the trunk of a massive tree, as if a mystical portal had carved itself into the wood. The spirit grabbed Mushi's hand and leaped into the gateway.

In an instant, Mushi would be transported from a bleak, miserable existence to a world where he would finally learn the true meaning of life. But was Mushi truly ready for what lay ahead?
