The room had grown quiet again.
Outside the door, the hallway lights flickered faintly, and distant footsteps came and went like passing shadows.
Adam sat on the chair near the window, staring at the metal bars.
Aria leaned against the bed, arms crossed, watching him.
"You're plotting again," she said.
Adam didn't look at her.
"I'm thinking."
"Same thing."
Silence stretched between them.
Then Aria sighed and pushed herself off the bed.
She walked over and stood in front of him, blocking his view of the window.
Adam finally looked up.
"What?"
Aria tilted her head slightly.
"You know something?"
Adam waited.
She pointed at his face.
"You've had that 'mastermind' expression for the last twenty minutes."
He blinked once.
"And?"
"And," she continued, "you look like you think you're about to outsmart everyone in this building."
Adam didn't deny it.
Aria stared at him for another second… then suddenly laughed.
"Relax, genius."
Adam frowned slightly.
"What's funny?"
She shook her head with a smirk.
"You ain't Megamind, chap."
Adam stared at her.
"…Megamind?"
"Yes, Megamind," she said casually. "You know, the big-brain villain guy who always has a plan."
Adam leaned back in the chair.
"I'm not trying to be a villain."
"Good," Aria replied quickly.
Then she leaned closer.
"Because if your plan involves doing something dramatic and getting us both caught…"
She poked his shoulder.
"…I reserve the right to say 'I told you so.'"
Adam looked at her calmly.
"My plans work."
"Most plans work," Aria said.
Then she pointed toward the door.
"Until they don't."
Adam's gaze shifted briefly toward the hallway.
Guards.
Cameras.
Locked doors.
Unknown numbers.
Yes.
A lot could go wrong.
But that didn't mean he would stop planning.
Aria studied his expression again and groaned.
"You're still thinking about it, aren't you?"
Adam nodded once.
"Of course."
Aria rubbed her forehead.
"Unbelievable."
Then she walked back toward the bed and flopped down dramatically.
"Just promise me one thing."
Adam looked at her.
"What?"
She pointed at him lazily.
"If you're about to do something insane…"
A small pause.
"…at least warn me first."
Adam thought about it for a second.
Then he replied calmly,
"I'll consider it."
Aria stared at the ceiling.
"…That's not reassuring at all."
