Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Say what?

### Ren's Perspective

It's been one year since my birth.

I've been growing pretty quickly, actually. I'm now 87 cm tall and 12 kg. I know, I know—using the metric system felt weird at first, but I've gotten used to it.

Right now I'm watching Teletubbies. Apparently, even though this world is a century ahead of my original timeline, Teletubbies still exist.

Humanity may advance, but apparently Teletubbies are eternal.

After getting bored, I closed my eyes and checked my current progress on the Template System.

'Neat.'

'System?'

[Yes, host?]

'Does Super Saiyan still have the 50× power boost?'

[Yes. However, it will drain you heavily. I recommend perfecting your ki control first, as it will be far more beneficial than simply increasing your ki reserves.]

'But my control is already high.'

[Better ki control will prevent you from accidentally destroying the planet every time you fire an attack, host.]

[Also, be warned: once your ki reaches 10 points, a single ki blast will be capable of destroying the moon.]

'Sick.'

Nodding to myself, I decided to stop watching TV and maybe train outside with Mom again.

Using my ki control, I gently floated into the air before flying out of my room and heading downstairs.

"Honey, what did I say about using flight inside the house?!"

A menacing voice entered my ears, sending shivers down my spine.

"M-Mom… I'm not using fl—AAH!"

A tail suddenly shot out of nowhere, wrapping around my body before a fist bonked me on the head.

"OUCH! What was that for?!"

"Being disobedient."

"Mom, I'm one year old!"

"When I was your age, I could take a hit from a moving truck."

"Your punches hit harder than a truck!"

"Hm… fair enough."

While rubbing my head, Mom grabbed me with her hands instead of her tail and mercilessly stretched my cheeks.

"Look how far you've come. You're so fat and squishy. You should train more."

"Honey! He's one!," Hikari shouted from downstairs. "Now come downstairs quickly, I made dinner!"

It was really weird experiencing Gohan's childhood in reverse.

Mom wants me to train and become strong.

Dad wants me to choose my own path… preferably one that involves less pain than Mom's training.

"Coming!"

Mom dragged me downstairs before strapping me into a baby chair.

"Alright, open your mouth and say ahh."

"…ahh."

[Host, you are a grown man. Please grab the spoon and eat yourself.]

'I can't! She's stronger than me and won't let me!'

[Perhaps God overdid her quirk a little.]

The system muttered, despite maintaining the same monotone voice as always.

Oh right, speaking of quirks.

It turns out that in this world, over 80% of the population has some kind of mutation that gives them powers.

Mine turned out to be a strange combination of Mom and Dad's abilities.

Mom has what people call a Saiyan mutation. She basically has superhuman physical abilities and can even transform into an Oozaru under a full moon.

Despite that, it turns out Mom doesn't have a single drop of Saiyan blood in her body.

The system already confirmed that for me.

Dad, on the other hand, has an energy quirk. It lets him create plasma-like energy, which he can use to fly and shoot energy blasts.

Apparently he used to be a pro hero.

But he retired.

I still don't know why.

'System, are their quirks related to the Vegito template at all?'

[No, host. Their quirks only exist to provide a believable explanation for your abilities.]

'I see.'

That got me thinking.

The average person with a quirk usually has something pretty weak or unimpressive.

But my parents?

Their quirks could easily be considered top-tier.

So surely they must have been important people… right?

I looked up at Mom.

"Mom, since you have such a strong quirk and you're always talking about training… were you a pro hero too?"

Hearing the question, Dad—Hikari almost choked on his food.

"W-well you see, son… she—"

"I'm an ex-villain."

Mom—Aoi said it casually with a smirk, as if she were talking about miniscule things.

"I used to be your dad's nemesis, you know."

'Say what?'

[Say what?]

Even the system sounded confused.

Seeing my completely lost expression, Dad cleared his throat and tried to regain control of the conversation.

"Ahem… you see, your mom used to be a rather notorious villain. She went by the name Iron Viper."

"Viper? Not a monke—"

WHACK

"OUCH!"

A fist immediately bonked my head, leaving a growing red bump.

"Mom! That's a perfectly reasonable question! You don't even have any viper-like powers!"

Aoi crossed her arms and glared at me.

"Don't you think it's unreasonable to call your mother a monkey?"

"N-no?" I said while rubbing my head. "I mean… I'm a monkey too—"

"Tch. I used 'Viper' because it sounded more menacing."

"Yeah, but what does it have to do with your power?" I thought about it. "Is it because you're considered like a snake or something?"

WHAM!

"Okay! I'll stop!"

Seeing me surrender, Aoi stopped grinding her teeth and shot a look at the hopeless Hikari.

"Well? Are you going to explain it, or should I?"

"I'll do it," Hikari said with a nod.

"Your mother used to work under a villain… a very dangerous one. Someone who could be considered an enemy to all humanity."

Hearing that immediately caught my attention.

I leaned forward, intrigued.

Mom kept eating like it didn't concern her, but there was a faint bitterness in her expression that I couldn't quite place.

"In short," Dad continued, "I met your mother when I was working with All-might during a raid on a villain base."

'All might? The symbol of hope? Seems like dad wasn't a pushover either.' It was very weird for your nerdy and easy going dad to turn out to work with all might, it really was the legendary piece of dad lore.

"It turned out to be a trap. Several villains were waiting to ambush us."

"Back then, your mom was one of their strongest fighters. So I ended up fighting her myself."

"At the time, I was the second strongest person there, right behind All Might."

'You're what??'

[You're what??]

Even the system sounded shocked.

'didn't you know about this?'

[I was not given much information about your background. It seems whoever designed your backstory wanted you to discover it yourself, host.]

Dad continued, oblivious to my internal crisis.

"As time went on, and with each battle we fought, we started to understand each other more."

"Your mom wasn't as evil as I originally thought. She was just working with them to help support her family."

Aoi snorted.

"And your dad wasn't as rigid as I expected either. Most heroes would go on and on about justice."

"But him? He was surprisingly flexible."

"And eventually," Dad said with a proud nod, "we fell in love."

"And then… we ended up having you!"

"Ah… I see," I muttered.

Then an important question came to mind.

"So… who's stronger between you two?"

"Me."

"Dad."

The answers came out at the exact same time.

[That's… surprising.] the system mused.

Dad waved his hand dismissively.

"Well, it doesn't really matter anymore. The past is the past."

"What matters now is that we have each other."

His voice sounded warmer than before as he looked around at both Mom and me.

Mom smiled softly.

"How cute, honey."

"Hehe…" Dad laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head.

'Well… this is unexpected.'

[Indeed, host. I will attempt to search the database for more information about your parents.]

'Alright then.'

It was a rather shocking revelation but I could accept it, at least they're honest with it.

### A Few Weeks Later

Inside a large underground facility.

Currently, Mom was trying to help me control my power better while putting me through training.

Turns out Dad is ridiculously rich.

Mom wasn't exaggerating, before becoming a hero, he was apparently a businessman. A very successful one.

Not only that, he also has connections with a lot of people in the hero industry, which somehow allowed him to build this entire training facility underneath our house.

'i guess I'm a nepo baby.'

[You absolutely are.] the system replied in its usual neutral tone.

"Alright, honey. First I'm going to teach you some basics."

Aoi stood in front of me with her arms crossed.

She was wearing a simple black tank top and black training pants, showing off her toned arms and strong frame, she seem to repeatedly sneak a glance at dad.

Her red hair, responsible for the red tint in my own, was tied into a short ponytail.

Meanwhile, Dad looked… uncomfortable.

"H-honey? Maybe we should delay the training," Hikari said nervously. "He's still just a child."

"He'll be fine," Aoi replied with a grin. "I started training when I was seven months old. Look at me now."

She flexed her arm proudly.

Hikari could only sigh.

'system… are you absolutely sure there's no Saiyan blood inside her?'

[I am completely certain there is none.]

[Your mother appears to simply possess a mutation that coincidentally resembles Saiyan physiology.]

'what does that mean exactly?'

[It means your mother is naturally built like a Saiyan.]

The system paused for a moment.

[In simpler terms… she is deranged.]

I fell silent.

'so… she's really just built different?'

Suddenly, a tap on my shoulder pulled me out of my thoughts.

"Dad?"

Hikari crouched down next to me and grabbed my shoulder.

He leaned in and whispered.

"Son… don't anger your mother too much. Her power spikes when she gets mad."

He glanced at Aoi carefully.

"And when you spar with her, try grabbing her tail. That's her weak spot."

"What are you two whispering about?" aoi shouted.

"N-nothing!"

"Dad's giving away your weakness!" I blurted out.

"Is that so…?"

Aoi's grin widened.

Instead of reacting immediately, she simply sat down on the floor and closed her eyes, entering a meditation pose.

Dad's face turned pale.

"…Uh oh," he muttered.

"She's getting serious."

Then he patted my back.

"Well, as long as you follow my advice, you might be able to hold her off for a bit."

I tilted my head.

"Wait, Dad… how am I supposed to target her weakness if I have the same weakness?"

"Hm?" Hikari blinked. "But you also inherited my quirk, didn't you?"

"That's how you fly around the house all the time.

You just need to harness the energy inside your body."

He paused, thinking.

"The fact that you've been flying at your age already means your control is better than mine."

"I just have larger energy reserves."

I nodded slowly.

Though something still bothered me.

"I thought you didn't want me to train."

"Huh?" Hikari looked surprised.

"Of course that's not true."

He placed a hand on my head.

"Son… the moment you were born, I knew you had incredible potential."

"A baby born with two powerful quirks."

"I know it might seem like I'm trying to stop you from fighting… but the truth is, I want you to grow strong."

"Stronger than both me and your mother."

His voice softened.

"And I want you to live the life you want—with your own strength."

For a moment, he seemed lost in thought.

I closed my eyes and focused.

Calming my mind, I spread my senses outward.

I could feel it.

Dad's energy.

And Mom's energy.

Mom's felt… wild.

Like a coiled beast waiting to explode.

I opened my eyes.

"Alright, Dad."

"I'll beat Mom and make both of you proud."

"Wait—huh?" Hikari blinked in confusion. "Hold on, don't provoke your—"

"MOM!"

I pointed at her dramatically.

"From now on I'm going to beat you over and over every time we spar!"

Aoi slowly opened her eyes.

An invisible pressure filled the room.

Even though she didn't know what ki was, something around her seemed to stir, an instinctive energy responding to her fighting spirit.

Tiny.

Tinier than me even.

But definitely there.

Her grin returned.

"Bring it on, Ren."

"YOSHAA!"

We both kicked off the ground at the same time.

Our figures blurred as we disappeared from our spots.

Two fists collided mid-air.

BOOM!
