Chapter 1 - The Boy from the Back Bench

The classroom was always full of noise—friends laughing, teachers explaining lessons, notebooks turning, and whispers floating from desk to desk. But in the first bench, there sat a quiet girl.

She was not silent everywhere in life. Outside school she could laugh, talk, and be herself. But inside school, she was different—calm, observant, and a little shy. She preferred watching the world quietly rather than being the center of attention.

And then there was him.

The boy from the back bench.

He was the complete opposite of her. He was lively, confident, and always surrounded by friends. His laughter could be heard from the back of the class. People liked him because he carried a positive energy everywhere he went. He had a boss-type personality—confident, bold, and naturally charming.

One day during break time, the girl was playing Truth or Dare with her friends.

"Choose!" one of her friends said excitedly.

She hesitated for a moment and then said softly,

"Dare."

Her friends immediately started giggling.

"Go and say hi to him."

Her heart skipped a beat.

"Are you serious?" she whispered.

But a dare was a dare.

With nervous steps and a racing heart, she walked toward him. For a moment, time felt slower. Her voice almost disappeared when she finally stood in front of him.

"Hi," she said quickly.

And before he could say anything else, she turned and ran back to her friends.

Her friends burst into laughter. But somewhere behind her, the boy stood there slightly surprised… almost like he was expecting her to say something more.

From that day, something changed.

Days passed normally, but she started noticing him more often. She didn't know how, when, or why, but slowly she found herself attracted to him.

Every morning when she entered the classroom, her eyes would automatically search for the back bench.

Sometimes he would defend her when classmates teased her. Sometimes he told her quietly,

"Stand for yourself. Don't listen to negative comments."

Those small moments stayed in her heart.

Soon her friends started teasing her with his name.

"Hey, he likes you," they would whisper.

She always denied it.

"No, no… nothing like that."

But inside her heart, a small happiness quietly bloomed.

One day, while the teacher stepped outside to answer a phone call, something unexpected happened.

The class was noisy, everyone talking freely.

Suddenly the boy said loudly,

"She is my girl."

He even called her by her name.

The classroom exploded with reactions—some shocked, some teasing, some unhappy. The girl felt her heart beat faster. She was happy… but also embarrassed and nervous at the same time.

She didn't know how to react.

So she did what she always did.

She pretended nothing happened.

Later, his friend told her,

"My friend likes you."

But again she ignored it.

And later… she regretted it.

That became her habit—ignoring feelings and regretting later.

Their love story was strange.

They never really talked.

They never went out together.

They never even became friends.

They only had eye contact.

Sometimes she noticed him staring at her while she was drinking water. But the moment she looked back, he pretended to look somewhere else.

Those little moments made her heart smile.

But time never waits.

Soon the last day of school arrived.

Everyone was excited about their future. Different colleges, different dreams, different paths.

They separated.

Months later, the school farewell program happened.

She went there mainly to see him.

She wasn't expecting anything big—just a smile, maybe a simple greeting.

But nothing happened.

At one moment, while she was standing and watching the program, she felt someone come and stand very close behind her.

She could feel it.

It was him.

Her heart started racing.

But instead of turning around, she stepped a little farther away.

Soon the program ended.

Her friends said, "Let's go."

She wanted to stay longer… just to exist in the same place as him a little more.

But he wasn't there anymore.

That night when she reached home, she broke down.

She cried for hours.

That day hurt more than she expected.

Later she told herself,

"It was just a beautiful memory… just an attraction."

Years passed.

She joined BBS in another college.

One day while walking to an exam with her friends, something unbelievable happened.

She saw him again.

They were walking from opposite directions on the same street.

For a moment, everything felt like a scene from a movie.

Their eyes met.

And suddenly the world around them felt blurry.

Only the two of them existed in that moment.

But again, nothing happened.

Just eye contact.

Life continued like that.

Sometimes once a year, sometimes by coincidence, sometimes by fate… they saw each other again somewhere on a road, in a crowd, or near a college.

Always the same.

Just eye contact.

Nothing more.

Deep inside, she knew the truth.

They could never be together.

Their caste, lifestyle, and future paths were different. She also believed she wasn't the kind of girl he truly needed in life.

So she made peace with reality.

She kept him not as a dream… but as a beautiful memory.

She would always like him, maybe always care about him in a quiet corner of her heart.

But she would never make him her life partner.

Instead, she prayed for something else.

A man who would truly understand her.

A man who would love her deeply.

A man who would stay with her for life.

And even then…

If one day on a random street their eyes meet again—

She knows her heart will still whisper softly,

"Once upon a time… he was my silent love."
