Chapter 6 - Awakening

Claire Kagehashi POV:

I've been feeling a little sick lately.

The local doctor says there's nothing wrong with me, but the idiot must not know how to do his job because I feel like complete garbage.

My body feels lighter, almost hollow, and a nauseating warmth keeps swirling around my chest, making me feel like I have to constantly throw up. Every time I try to stand, the room spins.

Mama has been fussing over me non-stop, pressing cold rags to my forehead and muttering anxious prayers.

Dad has been reading me stories and trying to ease my worries by telling me his cheesy dad jokes. It didn't work half of the time but at least he put in the effort to make me laugh.

Sitting up from my bed a faint breeze lifted into my room from the open window to my left.

I slowly got up from my bed and made my way to the window. intending to get some fresh air. I placed my arm on the windowsill and looked out the window.

Dad was swinging his sword around in the backyard.

His movements were quick and powerful, each swing of his sword was sharp enough to cleave through solid stone, yet smooth enough to flow like water.

To think my featherheaded father was a well renowned dark knight and adventurer. yeah right he probably lie-

My thoughts were interrupted as a sudden, sharp spike of heat flared right in the center of my chest, radiating down to my fingertips. The air around me felt heavy, vibrating with an invisible pressure that made my skin tingle.

I collapsed back onto my bed, gasping for air as the world around me started to spin.

My eyelids were so heavy I was struggling to keep them open.

Maybe a little nap wouldn't hurt.

With that final thought I slipped into slumber as everything went black.

Boom!

Kai Kagehashi's POV:

It's the week before Claire's birthday (June 2).

And my daily routine for the past week has consisted of waking up, hanging out with Claire and Silas, eating, and using most of the limited energy I have in my body to guide the small pebbles of magic particles in my body towards my mana nucleus which takes hours on end to do.

Fortunately, Grayfiya comes to get me for dinner half way through my session which is a blessing in itself. I'm usually too focused to notice anyone coming into my room.

Thinking back on my life so far it's been a rollercoaster. Like last week Dad decided it was a good idea to push three toddlers down a grassy hill on a sled. While I would understand if it was a normal sled ride down a hill, but when a magic infused push shoots the sled down the hill at seventy miles per hour you would see how that wasn't a good idea.

Thankfully, my Mom has a pretty tight leash on my Dad, but my Mom scares me sometimes. Ever since Claire has gotten sick she just has this aura around her that screams death, the aura disappears once she realizes that I'm cowering in fear because of her she apologizes every time it happens.

But aside from that, the random hormonal spikes I was having stopped about 3 days ago which I thank the Lord for because it was getting annoying.

My mana nucleus is almost at full capacity, so I decided to try out a new method to make it faster.

I learned it from an anime that had a power system called Immortal Qi. In that anime kids are taught to focus on the energy in their mind, arms, legs and heart by taking 30 to 40 deep breaths then 30 to 40 long and comfortable exhales and while doing all of that they focus all of the Immortal Qi in your body into one singular point in your solar plexus. So using that same logic for magic particles, if I focus on the small pebbles of magic particles in my mind, arms, legs and hearts I slowly move them towards my mana nucleus.

I almost instantly felt the difference, the pace I used to have was strenuous and slow, now it was effortless and swift. Adjusting my breathing to accommodate the new influx of magic particles to my mana nucleus.

I finally gathered all of the magic particles in my body towards the middle of my solar plexus my mana nucleus when…

Boom!
