Chapter 5 - The Exile

Aurora's POV

The ground came up to meet her hard.

Aurora's knees hit the dirt and pain shot through her legs but it was nothing compared to what Ryker's Alpha aura was doing to her body. The power crushed down like the weight of the entire world was sitting on her chest, making it impossible to breathe, impossible to think, impossible to do anything except kneel there and take it.

She'd never been publicly disciplined before.

In six years as Beta, she'd followed every order. Proven herself in every way he demanded. Earned the respect of the pack through blood and sweat and unwavering loyalty. And she'd never once been treated like she was anything less than his perfect weapon.

Until now.

Until the moment she met her mate.

The humiliation burned worse than the physical pain. Warriors from both packs were staring at her on her knees. The other Alphas were watching. Everyone at the Peace Summit was witnessing the Northern Pack Beta being crushed like she was nothing.

She could feel Ash trying to move toward her but Ryker's power was radiating outward, keeping him at bay, making it clear who held dominance in this moment.

Ryker's voice cut through the noise of the gathering like a blade.

"You've been compromised by enemy influence," he announced so every wolf could hear. His eyes were ice blue and completely empty of the warmth she'd always seen there. "Until you break this false bond, you are stripped of your Beta title and banned from Northern territory."

The words hit like claws tearing through her chest.

Beta. The title she'd spent six years earning. The position that defined who she was. The role that made her matter. Gone. Erased. Stripped away because she couldn't control what her wolf wanted.

She tried to speak but his aura pressed down harder, stealing her breath.

Aurora looked up at the Alpha who had saved her from the ashes of her parents' death. The man who had raised her. Who had promised her a place at his side. Who had taught her that loyalty was everything.

His expression was completely cold.

Like he'd never loved her at all. Like she'd always been just a tool to be used and discarded.

"Be grateful I'm only exiling you instead of executing you for treason," Ryker said quietly.

Execution.

The word hung in the air like a death sentence. Aurora's entire world shattered. She wasn't just being cast out. She was being declared a traitor. If she ever returned to Northern territory without permission, they would have the right to kill her.

Her throat tightened. Her eyes burned but she refused to cry. Not here. Not in front of everyone.

Then Ash's voice cut through everything.

"She has sanctuary in the Southern Pack."

The declaration was absolute. Certain. Like he was willing to back it up with everything he had.

Every Northern wolf snarled at that. Voices rose in fury and betrayal. Warriors moved closer like they might try to physically stop what was about to happen.

Aurora's body was still pinned under Ryker's aura. Still helpless. Still at his mercy.

But inside, something shifted.

She could feel the mate bond pulling her toward Ash. Could feel it offering her a way out of this nightmare. Could feel it promising her something she'd never had in the Northern Pack.

A choice.

Ash wasn't ordering her to come with him. He was offering her sanctuary. He was giving her options when Ryker had just taken everything else away.

Aurora pushed against Ryker's power. Forced her body to move. Made her legs straighten even though every muscle screamed in protest. Made herself stand on shaking legs while the entire gathering watched.

She should refuse Ash's offer.

She should beg Ryker for forgiveness. Should promise to break the mate bond. Should grovel and plead and do whatever it took to stay in the only pack she'd ever known.

That was what loyalty meant. That was what obedience required.

But looking at Ryker's cold eyes, at the Alpha who'd raised her as a weapon and not as family, at the man who'd just proven that her six years of service meant nothing the second she stopped being useful, Aurora made a different choice.

She turned away from the Northern Pack leader and met Ash's silver gaze.

The moment their eyes connected, the mate bond hummed like a live wire. Like her wolf was asking if this was really happening. If she was really doing this.

Aurora nodded slightly.

"I accept."

The words came out quiet but steady. Quiet but final. Quiet but absolutely certain.

The Northern Pack erupted.

Sienna was screaming that Aurora was a traitor. Other warriors were calling for her death. Pack members who she'd trained beside, who she'd bled beside, who she'd protected for years were suddenly snarling like she was their enemy.

Ryker's face went blank with shock that she would actually choose exile over groveling. That she would actually walk away from him.

And Aurora walked.

She didn't run. Didn't hesitate. Didn't look back at the life she was leaving behind. She simply turned and walked toward Ash like her legs had been made to move in that direction all along.

Ash met her halfway.

His hand found hers and the moment they touched, the mate bond sang. Electric. Alive. Real in a way nothing in her life had ever been. His grip was gentle but absolute, like he was anchoring her in the storm.

They stood together facing the gathering. Face to face with the pack that had declared her a traitor. Face to face with the Alphas who were probably already calculating how this was going to shift the balance of power between territories.

Ryker's final words cut through the chaos.

"You'll regret this, Aurora. When you realize he's manipulated you, when this false bond breaks, you'll come crawling back. And I won't be merciful."

Aurora felt Ash tense beside her but she was already moving. Already walking away from her former Alpha. Already leaving everything behind without looking back.

The cold night air hit her skin as they crossed toward the edge of the gathering. Toward Southern Pack territory. Toward whatever came next.

She didn't look at the Northern wolves watching her leave. Didn't acknowledge the warriors calling her name. Didn't give them the satisfaction of seeing her hesitate for even a second.

Behind her, Ryker's voice followed like a curse.

But Aurora was done listening to curses disguised as love.

She was done with chains wrapped in loyalty.

She was done being a weapon for someone else's war.

Ash's hand stayed in hers as they walked away from the Summit and toward his truck parked in the shadows. His presence beside her was solid and real and nothing like what she'd expected from an enemy.

The gathering was still erupting behind them. Warriors shouting. Alphas trying to restore order. The fragile peace of the Summit shattering under the weight of what just happened.

Aurora climbed into the truck as Ash started the engine.

And as they drove away from the Peace Summit, away from the Northern Pack territory, away from everything she'd ever known, she didn't look back once.

The mate bond pulsed between them, warm and alive and absolutely certain.

Whatever came next, at least she wouldn't face it alone.
