Chapter 4 – Shadows Strike Back
Kai stood in the forest, the shadow blade still hovering above his palm. His heart was racing, but a thrill ran through him. This power… it felt alive.
The stranger stepped back, clapping slowly. "Not bad. Most expelled students would be crying somewhere by now."
Kai narrowed his eyes. "What do you want from me?"
The stranger tilted his head. "I'm not your enemy… yet. But the world outside the academy isn't kind. There are people who want you dead, and some of them are far stronger than those three amateurs you faced earlier."
Kai swallowed. "Then why tell me?"
"Because I see potential," the stranger said simply. "You have a power most can only dream of. If you want to survive, you'll need to learn control. And for that…" He paused, drawing a small scroll from his robes. "You need guidance."
Kai frowned. "Why help me?"
The stranger smiled faintly. "Because the Demon King doesn't just awaken by chance. And the world… needs to see who truly controls the shadows."
Kai looked down at his hand, watching the shadow blade twist. He flexed his fingers. It moved exactly as he willed.
"This… feels amazing," he whispered.
The stranger nodded. "Good. But you're far from mastering it. Shadow Energy is dangerous if uncontrolled. One wrong move, and it could consume you—or worse, kill the wrong people."
Kai clenched his jaw. "I don't care. I've been weak my whole life. No one's going to look down on me ever again."
The stranger's eyes glimmered. "Bold. That attitude will carry you far… if you survive."
Suddenly, the scroll in the stranger's hand glowed. A faint wind swept through the forest.

Kai focused on the glowing text.
[Quest: Master Shadow Energy – Stage 1]
[Objective: Create a weapon using shadows that can break stone]
[Reward: +5 Strength, +5 Magic]
Kai smiled. "Stage one, huh? Let's do this."
He extended his hand. Shadows twisted and swirled faster than ever before, forming into a sharp spear. He threw it at a large rock nearby.
CRASH! The rock shattered into pieces.
Kai's eyes widened. The system chimed in again.
[Stage 1 Complete – Shadow Energy strengthened.]
The stranger nodded approvingly. "Not bad. But this is only the beginning. You'll need more than brute force if you want to survive what's coming."
Kai gripped the shadow spear, determination burning in his chest. "I'm ready for anything."
The stranger smirked. "Good. Then let's begin your real training."
