Synopsis
50 years after the hero’s victory, the era of endless wars seems to have ended. However, in the absence of war what could take its place? Will it be peace? Or will it be… Mindless Violence? *This is technically a sequel to my previous book This Is War, but it’s not necessary to read it before reading this. In fact, this is made to be best enjoyed as a standalone story. Hope you enjoy.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Mindless Violence

50 years ago the warrior Toro Fernandez defeated the Celestial Emperor in an epic dual that led to the collapse of the Celestial Empire and freed most of the universe from their tyrannical rule. In the 50 years since his battle Toro led the troops of Vercheg and worked with the former emperor to keep the peace in the cosmos.

The collapse of the empire had effectively ended the centuries long age of constant wars and now the universe was at a turning point. With the age of war over, most assumed that it was only natural for peace to take its place. However, that may not necessarily be the case. For what is inverse of war? Peace? Perhaps, but if one considers war to be an organized form of violence, then perhaps the true inverse of war is chaotic, mindless violence.

Since his retirement, Toro traveled around the universe and gave speeches. He didn't much care for doing so himself, but the rest of the military high command knew that the presence of the great hero reminded the universe of his strength and deterred conflicts around the cosmos.

One such event was scheduled for the planet of Insho. Two people traveled from far away to attend his speech. One was there to kill him.

"Oh great, just my luck. My train was running late and now I'm going to be late for the start of the speech." A young woman said in a huff as she got off the train. "Excuse me, which way to the Toro Fernandez speech? Will it take long to get there?" She asked a nearby attendant.

"It should only take about 10-15 minutes to get there from here, but I wouldn't bother if I were you." He replied.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"For some reason they moved up the speech by an hour, so it's probably already wrapping up."

"Huh? Why would they do that? I better get out of here! Maybe I can still make it!" She said as she ran out as fast as she could.

Meanwhile, another person was also arriving late. He was a tall well built young man with red hair. He wore a long jacket and sleekly designed goggles.

"Ahhhh, I can't believe I overslept again." He said has he nonchalantly walked through the train station. "Oh well, it's fine as long as I get a shot at him before he leaves."

He then went on to have the same conversation with the train station attendant as the woman did. Meanwhile, the woman had made it to the speech site as quickly as possible. However, when she finally did arrive not only was Great General Fernandez not there, but neither was anyone else. It was as if the entire town had been abandoned.

"What's going on here? Where did everyone go?" The woman wondered. As she scanned the area for any sign of a person, she spotted a man in a military uniform and glasses reading from a small book. "Excuse me! What happened? Wasn't there supposed to be an event here?" She asked him.

"Hmm, it's about time you showed up. I've been waiting for you." The man said as he snapped his book closed.

"Um? What do you mean?" She asked.

"I received a report indicating that someone would arrive here to kill the Great General. Since you're here now, I can only assume that the would be assassin is you." The man calmly stated. He then grabbed her arm in an effort to apprehend her.

"Hey let me go!" She shouted.

"I'm afraid I can't do that. I have to take you in for questioning."

"You can't just take me in based on some random tip! That unfair! I just wanted to see the General's speech!" She shouted, struggling to free herself from his grip.

"It's no random tip. It's my special ability. I call it, Planning Journal. My ability allows me to see potential futures based on what's written in my journal. Of course, the farther away an event is in my journal the less details I have. Closing the book and reopening it resets the perspective. So when I reopen my journal I should be able to see exactly who you are." He said as he reached to open his journal.

The woman then reared her arm back and suddenly a distorted aura started to emanate from her fist.

"Ripple Radiance!!!" She said as she threw a punch that emitted a massive powerful shockwave.

As she threw it, the man dodged and the shockwave went on to devastate the fronts of the buildings that lined the streets.

"That was lucky I opened my book enough to see that attack was coming." The man said.

"That was my own special ability called, Shockwave Surge, it allows me to emit shockwaves from any part of my body." She said.

"Impressive, it's a good thing that I took the time to evacuate the area beforehand." He said as he looked over the damaged buildings.

"You say that but without any people around I don't have to hold back my ability as much." She said.

"Well either way, I suppose this all but confirms that you are in fact the would be assassin." The man said as he pushed up his glasses.

"No it doesn't, you unjustly attacked me because of a baseless suspicion. I'm just defending myself." She retorted.

"You say that but you're the only one here. Who else could the assassin be?" He asked. He then grabbed the woman by the arm. "Either way, I'll make my determination after I take you into custody."

"Let go of me!" She shouted as she struggled to free herself from his grip.

Suddenly, a red blast of energy shot between the man in glasses and the woman, and she was able to break free of his grip.

"Hey pal, what are you doing grabbing a helpless damsel…" a man standing on a roof next to them started to say. He was interrupted by the woman using a shockwave infused punch to blast the man away. "… in distress?" The man finished, wondering if perhaps he stuck his nose in something that he shouldn't

have.
