Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Between Trees

'Well this is just great'.

Among the endless landscape of insurmountable trees, Lei came to terms with the fact that this would probably be the last place she would see before dying.

As she walked among the depths of the forest, cutting and slashing the vines blocking her way, the fool acompanying her decided to open his mouth again.

"What's gotten you so quiet, my friend? You are usually more spirited than this."

'Usually? The man barely knew her'.

Following closely behind her, he didn't make an effort in the least in assisting her with clearing the way forward, but he sure had energy to keep on nagging her for the entire journey.

The exhaustion and nearing doom were slowly taking hold of her heart, so Lei was clearly not in the condition to entertain him.

In between gritted teeth she muttered:

"Maybe I would have more time to speak if you helped me with the vines."

Cutting down a particularly thick array of obstacles, Lei finally caught glimpse of their destination. With a sudden halt, she raised her hand and signaled Lander to stop.

"We are here, be quiet now."

With a silent nod, Vander walked next to her and stared at the mountain of corpses covering everything their sight could reach. Countless of beasts toppled on top of each other, with no clear pattern or similarity between them other than the fact that death had gathered them here.

Even with this being the second time she had encountered the abnormal dying ground, Lei couldn't help but cover her nose, as if the scent permeating the air was not meant to be experienced by mortals.

'I should be grateful the company in eternal slumber won't be just this idiot, though'
