Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Vote

The Olivero Holdings boardroom had never felt this tense.

Fourteen directors sat around the long walnut table, their tablets glowing with reports, legal notices, and financial projections. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city looked calm.....almost indifferent to the war unfolding inside the building.

Nathan arrived exactly on time. He walked in without hurry, wearing a dark suit and the quiet confidence that had unsettled his father the day before.

Victor was already seated at the head of the table. The room fell silent as Nathan took his chair opposite him.

Two men.

Two generations.

One company.

Director Mike cleared her throat.

"This emergency session has been called to address leadership stability during the ongoing federal inquiry."

Everyone knew what that meant. Victor leaned forward slightly.

"I will speak plainly," he said.

"Olivero Holdings is facing unprecedented scrutiny. Our stock has dropped twenty-two percent. Federal agents have entered our headquarters and the public now questions whether our CEO can maintain focus."

His gaze moved slowly toward Nathan.

"This instability is unacceptable."

A few board members shifted uncomfortably. Victor continued smoothly.

"I therefore propose a vote of confidence in Mr. Nathan Olivero's leadership."

The words sounded procedural. But the meaning was clear.

"Remove Nathan....Save the company!" Director Patel spoke hesitantly.

"Victor… before we proceed, perhaps we should allow Nathan to address the investigation."

Victor gave a polite smile. "Of course."

Nathan stood slowly. He didn't bring notes. He didn't bring slides.

He simply rested his hands lightly on the back of his chair.

"You're right about one thing," Nathan said calmly.

"The company is under scrutiny."

He glanced around the table.

"But the problem isn't leadership."

His eyes settled on Victor. "It's corruption."

The word echoed through the room.

Victor didn't react. Nathan continued.

"Over the past forty-eight hours, an internal audit uncovered more than one hundred and sixty million dollars in offshore payments routed through shell entities tied to Olivero Holdings."

Several directors looked shocked. Nathan tapped a control on the table. A screen behind him lit up. Financial diagrams appeared. Transfer routes. Offshore accounts. Consulting shells.

Director Mike stared at the screen.

"This can't be real."

Nathan's voice stayed steady. "It is."

Victor finally spoke. "These accusations are reckless."

Nathan turned toward him.

"No."

Then he changed the screen. A still image appeared. A frame from the loading dock video. Two men carrying sealed evidence containers.

Director Patel leaned forward.

"What are we looking at?"

Nathan answered quietly. "Evidence tampering connected to the poisoning attempt on my wife."

The room erupted with whispers.

Victor's voice sharpened.

"This is outrageous."

Nathan didn't even look at him.

"These contractors were paid through Alexaca Strategic Solutions." He tapped the screen again.

Victor's name appeared under the authorization chain. Several board members gasped. Victor's expression hardened.

"You're presenting manipulated data."

Nathan met his gaze.

"Federal investigators are reviewing the same files."

The silence that followed felt heavier than any argument.

Director Mike turned toward Victor."Victor… tell me this isn't real."

Victor leaned back slowly.

"You're watching a son try to destroy his father to protect his position."

Nathan spoke calmly.

"No."

Then he delivered the final blow. "I'm protecting the company from the man who's been bleeding it for five years."

The boardroom fell into stunned silence. Director Patel rubbed his temples.

"If this is true…"

Nathan finished the sentence for him.

"It's a federal crime."

Victor's eyes narrowed slightly. "You're forgetting something."

Nathan waited.

Victor's voice lowered.

"You still need the board to believe you."

Nathan nodded once. "You're right."

He sat down again. Then he folded his hands calmly.

"That's why I asked federal investigators to attend today's meeting."

The doors behind the boardroom opened. Two FBI agents stepped inside. Agent Carter among them. Gasps spread across the room. Victor didn't move. But the air around him felt colder.

Carter spoke clearly.

"Victor Olivero, we're currently investigating financial crimes and obstruction of justice tied to Olivero Holdings."

The board members stared at Victor in disbelief.

Director Mike whispered, "Victor… what have you done?"

Victor finally stood.

His expression remained controlled. Cold. Calculated.

"Ladies and gentlemen," he said calmly, "this investigation is far from concluded."

He turned toward Nathan. "You think you've won."

Nathan met his father's gaze. "I think the truth is finally visible."

Victor smiled faintly.

Then he looked around the table.

"Proceed with the vote."

Director Patel hesitated.

"This may not be the appropriate time."

Victor's voice sharpened. "Now! "

The board members exchanged nervous glances. Finally Mike spoke.

"All in favor of removing Nathan Olivero as CEO of Olivero Holdings?"

Three hands lifted slowly. Four. Five. Then the hands stopped. Silence filled the room.

Mike swallowed.

"All opposed?"

Seven hands rose. Including his. Victor's expression froze.

Mike exhaled slowly.

"The motion fails."

Nathan remained perfectly still. Victor studied the room. His empire had just shifted.

For the first time in decades...He was no longer in control of the board.

Victor looked back at his son. "You've made a dangerous enemy."

Nathan stood. "I already had one."

Victor grabbed his coat calmly. "This isn't over."

Nathan's voice stayed quiet. "No."

He watched his father walk toward the door.

"It's just the beginning."

Victor paused briefly before leaving the room. Not defeated. Not yet. But wounded.

And wounded predators were the most dangerous of all.

That night, Nathan returned home later than usual. Mira was waiting for him in the living room. She stood the moment he walked in.

"How did it go?"

Nathan loosened his tie.

"The board kept me."

Relief flooded her face.

"And your father?" Nathan paused.

"He lost control of the board." Mira stepped closer.

"Then it's almost over."

Nathan shook his head slowly.

"No."

"Why?"

Nathan looked out toward the city skyline...Because he knew Victor Olivero too well.

"A man like him doesn't walk away quietly." Mira slipped her arms around him from behind.

"Then we face whatever comes next together."

Nathan rested his hand over hers.

"Yes."

But somewhere across the city.....Victor Hale was already planning his next move.

And the war between father and son was about to become far more dangerous!
