The street below the rooftop had become a forest of prisoners.
Dozens of incarnations hung suspended in the air, wrapped gently but firmly in thick vines. Their weapons lay scattered across the broken asphalt, useless against the living plants that held them.
No one had died.
No one had even been seriously injured.
And yet the entire attack had ended in less than a minute.
Kim Dokja leaned against the railing, looking down at the scene.
"…Well," he said slowly, "that escalated quickly."
Yoo Joonghyuk stood beside him, silent, his sharp gaze scanning the captured hunters.
"They were completely overwhelmed."
"Yeah," Dokja replied. "Turns out 'attack the literal goddess' was not a winning strategy."
Below them, the incarnations struggled helplessly against the vines.
Some shouted.
Some pleaded.
Others simply stared upward at Persephone with stunned expressions.
The rooftop garden swayed gently in the wind.
Persephone stood in the center of it all, calm and unmoved.
She watched the humans below as if observing an unusual species.
"Interesting," she murmured.
Dokja glanced at her.
"What is?"
"They stopped attacking very quickly."
"That tends to happen when people get wrapped in plants."
Persephone seemed thoughtful.
"Humans abandon aggression when defeat becomes obvious."
Yoo Joonghyuk shook his head slightly.
"Not always."
He had seen enough battles to know that desperation could make people even more dangerous.
And the Star Stream loved desperation.
Right on cue—
A new system message appeared.
[Scenario Progress: 0%]
[Hunters are encouraged to attempt alternative strategies.]
Dokja stared at the notification.
"…Are you kidding me?"
Another message followed immediately.
[Bonus coins will be awarded for successful cooperation.]
Dokja groaned loudly.
"The system is literally bribing them now."
Below, some of the captured incarnations began whispering among themselves.
Greed returned quickly when coins were involved.
Persephone noticed the change.
"They are still considering it."
"Yep," Dokja said.
"That's the Star Stream's influence."
Yoo Joonghyuk crossed his arms.
"They will continue trying."
"Probably."
Dokja looked up at the sky.
The constellations were extremely active now.
Messages flickered constantly.
[Several constellations are fascinated by the anomaly's restraint.]
[A constellation wonders if the goddess refuses to kill humans.]
[Constellation 'Demon-like Judge of Fire' is extremely invested in the outcome.]
Dokja chuckled.
"Uriel is having the time of her life."
Persephone tilted her head.
"They enjoy watching this."
"Oh yeah," Dokja said.
"To them this is premium entertainment."
Persephone looked down at the suspended humans again.
Her expression softened slightly.
"So they create suffering to entertain gods."
Dokja shrugged.
"That's the Star Stream."
Yoo Joonghyuk spoke quietly.
"And the incarnations accept it because survival requires coins."
Persephone looked back at the sky.
Her gaze sharpened slightly.
"They designed a cruel system."
Dokja smiled faintly.
"Welcome to our story."
The vines holding the hunters shifted slightly as they struggled.
One man shouted upward.
"You can't keep us here forever!"
Another yelled.
"The scenario won't end unless you die!"
Dokja pointed downward.
"See? They're starting to understand the problem."
Persephone remained silent for a moment.
Then she raised one hand.
The vines slowly lowered the captured incarnations back to the ground.
Dokja blinked.
"…Wait."
Yoo Joonghyuk's eyes narrowed.
"You are releasing them."
"Yes."
The vines unwound and retreated into the ground.
Within seconds the street was clear again.
The incarnations stumbled backward, shocked by their sudden freedom.
Dokja stared at Persephone.
"You just reset the fight."
"I gave them a choice."
"That's not how the Star Stream works."
Persephone stepped closer to the rooftop edge.
Her voice carried clearly down to the street.
"The system wants you to kill me."
The incarnations froze.
"But I will not kill you."
They exchanged confused glances.
Persephone continued calmly.
"So you must decide something."
Dokja muttered.
"Oh this is going to confuse the hell out of the system."
Persephone's gaze swept across the crowd.
"Will you continue attacking me…"
Her voice softened slightly.
"…or will you refuse the story they wrote for you?"
Silence filled the street.
The incarnations looked at each other uncertainly.
This was not how scenarios usually worked.
Normally there were only two options.
Fight.
Or die.
But now—
A third possibility existed.
Refuse.
Dokja adjusted his glasses slowly.
"…You're giving them narrative freedom."
Yoo Joonghyuk's expression darkened.
"That will destabilize the scenario."
"Exactly," Dokja said.
The system message appeared immediately.
[Warning: Scenario integrity compromised.]
Dokja grinned.
"There it is."
Below them, the incarnations hesitated.
Some looked greedy.
Others looked terrified.
One man lowered his sword.
"…This feels like a trap."
Another nodded.
"What if the system punishes us?"
Dokja whispered.
"That's the problem with breaking the narrative."
Persephone waited patiently.
Finally—
One woman stepped forward.
She looked exhausted, her armor damaged from earlier scenarios.
She dropped her weapon.
"I'm not fighting her."
The street went quiet.
Another incarnation followed.
Then another.
Slowly, weapons began hitting the ground.
Not everyone surrendered.
But enough did.
Above them—
The system windows flickered violently.
[Scenario Progress: ERROR]
Dokja burst out laughing.
"Oh that is beautiful."
Yoo Joonghyuk stared at the glitching messages.
"They cannot process refusal."
"Nope."
The Star Stream had always assumed incarnations would follow the script.
Fight for rewards.
Kill for survival.
But now the script had been rejected.
Persephone looked up at the sky again.
The constellations were in chaos.
"Your story is fragile," she said quietly.
Dokja nodded.
"Yeah."
The system message flickered again.
[Administrator review required.]
Dokja's smile faded slightly.
"…Uh oh."
Yoo Joonghyuk noticed immediately.
"They are escalating."
High above the city—
Something enormous began to stir within the Star Stream.
Not just observation this time.
Intervention.
Dokja sighed deeply.
"Well…"
He glanced at Persephone.
"You officially broke the scenario."
Persephone smiled faintly.
"Good."
The sky darkened slightly.
Because the administrators were no longer satisfied with simply watching.
And when the Star Stream itself stepped onto the stage—
The story would become far more dangerous. 🌑⚔️🌸📖
