Chapter 8 - Episode 8 – The Eye of the Storm

The storm had calmed outside the castle, but inside, the tension crackled like lightning waiting to strike. Lyssa paced the room, heart still pounding from Kael's ruthless battles, the manipulator's lies, and the fear that had consumed her for days.

Kael appeared at the door, his eyes still fierce, but there was something different now—a softness buried under the storm. He motioned for her to sit.

"Lyssa… I owe you the truth," Kael said, his voice low, steady, almost gentle.

Lyssa looked at him, suspicious. "The truth? After everything… after what you did?"

Kael nodded. "Yes. Every action you've seen me take—the killings, the threats, even locking you here… it was all to protect you and the city from what they could never face."

He led her to the balcony, showing the distant streets and towers of the city. "The people you saw me kill—your friend, the assassins—they were enemies hiding in plain sight. They wanted to destroy everything we care about. I couldn't let anyone… anyone hurt you or the ones who trust me."

Lyssa's eyes filled with tears as she tried to process it. "You… you were protecting me? All this time?"

Kael's storm-born power shimmered faintly, like a ripple of lightning across his hands. "I had to be the villain in everyone's eyes. I had to make them fear me… or they would have killed us both. The manipulator who whispers lies to you? She's been working for those who wish to see the city burn. I let her play her games, to find her weakness."

He stepped closer. "I've carried the weight of hatred, fear, and envy… all for a purpose. To keep you safe. To keep everyone safe. One day, the truth will come, and the city will see what kind of storm I truly am."

Lyssa's hands trembled as she reached for his. "I… I don't know what to say."

Kael's voice softened, almost like the boy she remembered from childhood. "Don't say anything. Just understand… sometimes, being the villain is the only way to be the hero."

Thunder rolled outside as lightning split the sky. Lyssa looked at him, the storm raging both outside and in her heart. The man she feared, hated, and almost lost… was the same boy she had once loved, and now she understood the true depth of his sacrifice.

The storm outside mirrored the storm within her—and within Kael. The last Stormborn had finally revealed his truth.
