Saga 1 – Founder Era Chapter 12: The Serpent's Whisper 🐍

The dungeon corridors were silent long after the torches of the castle had burned low.

Most students slept peacefully in their beds, unaware that beneath the ancient stone halls, secrets older than the school itself were beginning to stir.

You walked alone through the Slytherin common room, the green fire in the hearth casting long shadows against the walls. The room felt different tonight—quieter, heavier, almost as if the castle itself was watching.

Then you heard it.

A faint whisper.

Not a voice exactly… more like a soft hiss carried through the stone.

You stopped walking.

"Hssss…"

Your eyes narrowed.

At first you thought it was the wind moving through the pipes. But the sound came again, clearer this time.

"Hssss… child of the serpent…"

A chill ran down your spine.

You turned toward the dungeon wall. The whisper seemed to come from somewhere beyond the stone itself.

No one else reacted. The other students were asleep.

Only you could hear it.

You stepped closer to the wall, pressing your hand against the cold stone blocks. The whisper returned, curling into your mind like a living thing.

"Hssss… below… below…"

Below?

Your thoughts raced.

The castle had many lower chambers—storage rooms, tunnels, forgotten passages. But the whisper felt older than those places.

Older than the school.

Your heart began to beat faster.

Slowly, you spoke aloud in the strange language that came naturally to you.

"Hssss… Who are you?"

The response came instantly.

A louder hiss.

"Hssss… heir… seeker… come…"

Your eyes widened.

Heir?

You had heard rumors before. Old stories whispered among Slytherins about hidden secrets beneath the castle.

Most students thought they were myths.

But now…

You looked toward the dungeon corridor leading deeper into the castle.

The whisper continued, faint but persistent.

"Hssss… find the path… awaken the serpent…"

A strange excitement filled your chest.

Something ancient was calling you.

Something powerful.

You pulled your cloak tighter around your shoulders and stepped out of the common room.

The corridor beyond was dark and empty.

Torchlight flickered against damp stone walls as you walked slowly through the dungeon passages. Every step echoed quietly.

The whisper guided you.

Left.

Then right.

Down another staircase.

Each turn felt strangely familiar, as if you had walked this path before in a dream.

Finally, you reached an old section of the dungeon you had never seen before.

The corridor ended at a solid stone wall.

The whisper grew louder.

"Hssss… here…"

You stared at the wall.

There was nothing unusual about it—just ancient stone blocks like the rest of the castle.

But when your hand touched the surface, the whisper surged in your mind.

A single word formed on your tongue.

A word that felt older than the castle itself.

Without thinking, you spoke it.

"Hissss…"

The stone trembled.

A thin crack appeared between two of the blocks.

Dust fell from the ceiling as something ancient shifted deep within the walls of the castle.

Your breath caught.

The whisper returned one final time, softer now.

"Closer… heir… closer…"

Then the stones became silent again.

But the crack remained.

A hidden passage.

Your heart pounded with excitement and fear.

Whatever secret lay beyond that wall…

It had been waiting a very long time for someone like you to find it.

And tonight, the search had finally begun. 🐍
