Chapter 20 - Fire on the Horizon

The alliance with River Camp had brought hope. Survivors from both settlements exchanged supplies, shared knowledge, and even began planning patrol routes together. For the first time, Sun Jun felt the possibility of rebuilding something resembling society.

But hope was fragile. Scouts returned one evening with grim news: raiders were gathering again—larger, more organized, and armed with stolen military gear. Zhao Kun's death had not ended their threat; it had united them under a new leader, a ruthless warlord named Ma Tian.

"They're not coming for scraps," Li Feng warned. "They're coming for conquest. And they know about both our settlements."

---

Sun Jun stood before the survivors, lightning flickering faintly across his hands. "We've fought raiders before. We've won. But this time, they're stronger. If we stand alone, we'll fall. Together, we can endure."

Yu Lan arrived from River Camp with twenty of her best fighters. She clasped Sun Jun's hand firmly. "We fight as one. If they take either of us, they'll take both. We cannot let that happen."

Lin Yue organized defenses, setting traps along the perimeter. Steel barricades rose, towers bristled with archers, and patrols doubled. The supermarket fortress and River Camp became twin flames in the darkness, ready to resist the storm.

---

At dawn, the horizon burned. Raiders marched in formation, armored vehicles rumbling, banners of blood and ash fluttering. Ma Tian rode at the front, his voice booming across the battlefield.

"Survivors! You think yourselves strong. You think thunder makes you gods. But gods bleed. And today, you will kneel."

Sun Jun stepped forward, sparks dancing across his body. "We kneel to no one. This is our home. If you want it, come and take it."

Thunder cracked, echoing his defiance.

---

The raiders charged. Gunfire rattled, explosions shook the ground. Survivors fought desperately, arrows flying, traps detonating. Yu Lan's warriors held the line, Li Feng rallied defenders, and Lin Yue struck from the shadows, her traps claiming lives.

Sun Jun descended into the fray, lightning bursting from his hands. He struck down raiders in arcs of electricity, his thunderstorm illuminating the battlefield. Survivors cheered, their fear replaced with fury.

But Ma Tian was no ordinary foe. He wielded a massive warhammer, its head glowing with stolen energy cells. Each strike sent shockwaves through the ground, scattering defenders.

---

Ma Tian confronted Sun Jun in the heart of battle. "You killed Zhao Kun," he snarled. "Now you face me."

Sun Jun's eyes narrowed. Sparks danced across his body, illuminating the ruins. "You'll fall like he did."

They clashed—Ma Tian's warhammer against Sun Jun's thunder. Each strike shook the earth, each blow a test of will. Ma Tian was brutal, relentless, his weapon fueled by stolen power. But Sun Jun's lightning was pure, born of the storm itself.

---

As the duel raged, Lin Yue rallied survivors. "Hold the line!" she shouted, her voice cutting through chaos. Yu Lan fought beside her, her blade flashing, her warriors striking with precision.

Sun Jun gathered his strength, sparks surging through him. He unleashed Thunder Constructs, forming a shield of electricity to block Ma Tian's hammer. The raider leader roared, striking again and again, but the shield held.

Then Sun Jun released his power in a single burst—Thunderstorm Nova. Lightning cascaded across the battlefield, engulfing Ma Tian. The warlord screamed, his weapon shattering, his body convulsing before collapsing in smoke and ash.

---

The raiders faltered, their leader gone. Survivors pressed forward, driving them back. Within minutes, the battlefield was silent, the supermarket and River Camp still standing.

But victory came at a cost. Dozens lay wounded, ten dead. Survivors wept, their joy tempered by grief. Yu Lan clasped Sun Jun's hand, her face grim. "We won. But this is only the beginning. Raiders will return. Monsters will grow stronger. We must be ready."

Sun Jun nodded, his chest heaving, his hands still crackling faintly. "We will be ready. Together."

---

That night, survivors from both settlements gathered. Fires burned, wounds were tended, and songs of defiance echoed. Sun Jun stood among them, Lin Yue at his side, Yu Lan and Li Feng nearby.

"We've faced monsters, betrayal, raiders," Sun Jun said, his voice steady. "And we've won. But the apocalypse is not finished. It will test us again and again. We must stand together, not just as survivors, but as a people. This is more than survival now. This is the beginning of a new world."

Thunder rumbled in the distance, echoing his resolve. The storm was far from over, but Sun Jun was ready.
