Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Girl Who Talked Too Much

Chapter 2: The Girl Who Talked Too Much

The sun finally disappeared behind the horizon, leaving only a faint glow in the sky.

The colors slowly faded from bright orange to deep purple, and the first few stars began to appear in the darkening sky.

Aarav usually left the hill once the sunset ended.

That had always been his routine.

But today was different.

Today, there was someone else sitting beside him.

Mira stretched her arms above her head and let out a relaxed sigh.

"That was beautiful," she said.

Aarav glanced at her quietly.

She seemed completely comfortable sitting there, as if she had been coming to this hill for years.

Which made no sense to him.

He would have noticed her before.

"This is the first time I've seen you here," Aarav finally said.

Mira turned toward him with a playful expression.

"Oh? Have you been keeping attendance here?"

Aarav frowned slightly.

"No. I just come here every day."

"Every day?" Mira repeated, raising an eyebrow.

She looked around the empty hill again.

"So you're telling me this entire place belongs to you?"

Aarav sighed softly.

"That's not what I meant."

Mira laughed.

"You look like someone who doesn't laugh very often."

Aarav looked back at the fading colors of the sky.

"I do laugh."

"When?" she asked immediately.

He paused.

That question was harder to answer than he expected.

Mira leaned forward slightly, watching him with curiosity.

"Hmm," she hummed. "See? I knew it."

Aarav gave her an annoyed look.

"You talk a lot."

"I know," Mira replied proudly.

She plucked a blade of grass from the ground and twirled it between her fingers.

Silence fell between them for a moment.

But unlike the quiet Aarav was used to, this silence felt different.

It wasn't lonely.

Mira suddenly stood up and walked a few steps ahead, looking down at the town lights slowly turning on below the hill.

"Do you know something interesting?" she said.

Aarav didn't answer.

But she continued anyway.

"Most people never notice sunsets," she said. "They're too busy looking at their phones or running somewhere."

She turned toward him again.

"But you sit here every single day just to watch it."

Aarav shrugged slightly.

"I like it."

Mira tilted her head.

"That's it?"

"What else should there be?"

She walked back and sat down again.

"I don't know," she said thoughtfully. "Usually people have some deep reason for things like this."

Aarav looked toward the horizon again.

Maybe she was right.

But he had never really thought about it that way.

"I just feel calmer here," he said quietly.

Mira studied him for a moment.

Then she smiled again.

"I knew it."

"Knew what?"

"You definitely have too many thoughts."

Aarav rolled his eyes slightly.

"You're strange."

"I've been told that before," Mira said cheerfully.

A gentle wind passed through the hill again, making her hair move across her face.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Mira suddenly snapped her fingers.

"I have an idea!"

Aarav looked at her suspiciously.

"What?"

Mira pointed toward the horizon where the last traces of light were fading.

"Let's watch one hundred sunsets together."

Aarav blinked.

"What?"

"One hundred sunsets," she repeated excitedly. "Starting today."

Aarav stared at her like she had just suggested something completely ridiculous.

"Why?"

Mira shrugged casually.

"Why not?"

"That doesn't explain anything."

She leaned closer slightly.

"Because sunsets are special," she said. "And if something is special, you shouldn't experience it alone."

Aarav looked away.

"I don't mind being alone."

Mira watched him carefully.

Then she smiled again.

"Well, I do."

He frowned.

"What does that have to do with me?"

"It means," she said confidently, "you're stuck with me now."

Aarav let out a quiet sigh.

"This is exactly why I come to quiet places."

Mira laughed again.

Her laughter was light and carefree, echoing softly in the quiet air around the hill.

Aarav noticed something strange.

Even though she talked too much…

Even though she had suddenly appeared out of nowhere…

The hill didn't feel as quiet as before.

But it also didn't feel uncomfortable.

Mira suddenly stood up again and brushed the grass off her clothes.

"Well," she said, "I should probably go home before it gets too dark."

She took a few steps away, then turned back toward him.

"Same time tomorrow?"

Aarav hesitated.

He wasn't used to making plans with anyone here.

This place had always been his escape.

But before he could answer, Mira grinned.

"I'll take that silence as a yes."

Aarav watched as she began walking down the path leading away from the hill.

After a few steps, she suddenly turned around again and shouted:

"Oh, and don't forget!"

Aarav looked up.

"Sunset number two is tomorrow!"

Then she waved and continued walking down the hill.

Soon her figure disappeared into the darkness below.

The hill became quiet again.

Just like it always was.

But something felt different now.

Aarav looked toward the empty path where she had left.

Then he looked back at the dark horizon.

For the first time in years…

He found himself wondering if someone would actually come back tomorrow.
