Chapter 6 - Chapter Six: The First Boredom Battle.

The morning sunlight spilled across the polished floors of WeiTech Tower.

Inside the grand boardroom, tension hung thick in the air, as if the room itself could sense the brewing storm.

Liang Wei sat at the head of the long mahogany table, eyes sharp, his tailored suit perfectly in place. Beside him, Zhang Mei was reviewing the day's agenda, her expression unreadable, though her fingers drummed lightly on the polished surface.

Today wasn't just a meeting it was the first time Zhang Mei would officially face the WeiTech board as Liang Wei's wife. Not as a consultant, not as a guest but as his partner, bound by the very public contract marriage that everyone had been talking about.

Chen Tao sat next to Liang Wei, trying to look calm but sweating beneath his neatly pressed shirt. He whispered, "Are you sure about this? Some of these board members might never accept her presence."

Liang Wei's eyes never left the door as the board members entered one by one. "She's part of this company now. Get used to it."

As the meeting began, the first challenge appeared immediately. Zhao Ming, the Legal Director, cleared his throat and adjusted his glasses.

"Mr. Liang," Zhao began cautiously, "we have concerns regarding the proposed acquisition deal. It seems aggressive and… risky."

Liang Wei leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled. "Please elaborate."

Zhao Ming glanced at Zhang Mei before continuing. "While the market potential is evident, there's a chance of regulatory pushback, and the supply chain contracts could be compromised if Wang Corporation decides to interfere."

A faint smirk crossed Zhang Mei's lips. "That's exactly why I recommend a counter-proposal that safeguards your company. A clause to prevent leverage manipulation and a gradual acquisition schedule to avoid scrutiny."

The board went silent. Some members exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of skepticism and curiosity.

Wang Xiao had always been the shadow looming over WeiTech, but now, with Zhang Mei by Liang Wei's side, even the smallest counter-move could feel dangerous.

"Impressive," Liang Wei said quietly, acknowledging her. "Do you have the full proposal ready?"

Zhang Mei nodded, sliding the documents across the table. The board members hesitated, then began reading.

Not everyone was pleased. Lin Qiang, the CTO, frowned deeply. "Are we sure about trusting someone with… her background?"

Zhang Mei's eyes met his, cold and unwavering. "I may have a complicated past, but my competence speaks for itself."

Liang Wei's hand brushed lightly against hers under the table. It was a subtle gesture, unnoticed by most, but a signal that he trusted her and expected loyalty in return.

Minutes passed like hours as board members debated, raised objections, and questioned the strategy. Every time Zhang Mei provided a reasoned explanation, doubts began to dissolve.

Then, as the discussion reached its climax, the boardroom doors burst open. A secretary ran in, holding a tablet as if it were a lifeline.

"Mr. Liang! Ms. Zhang! You need to see this."

Liang Wei took the tablet and his eyes scanned the screen. His expression hardened instantly.

On social media, a new headline flashed:

"Zhang Mei Accused of Corporate Espionage Is WeiTech Hiding a Saboteur?"

Photos from years ago documents she had never authorized to be public circulated rapidly. Wang Xiao's subtle fingerprints were everywhere: the timing, the leaks, the sources. It was clear this was a premeditated attack.

The room froze. Chen Tao's jaw dropped. "It's a trap!"

Zhang Mei's mind raced. She had anticipated rival attacks, but not this an attempt to ruin her credibility before she could even prove herself.

Liang Wei's eyes burned with controlled anger. "This is more than just a smear. Someone wants to destabilize the board from within."

He turned slowly toward Zhang Mei. "Are you capable of handling this?"

Zhang Mei's lips pressed into a firm line. "I've handled worse. Let me handle this one."

Liang Wei nodded. "Very well."

He turned to the board. "This accusation will not distract us. Zhang Mei will explain herself, and if anyone disagrees, speak now."

For a moment, no one moved. Then Lin Qiang muttered reluctantly, "I… trust her judgment."

It was a small victory, but Liang Wei knew the battle had only begun.

Hours later, the meeting concluded, but the tension did not fade. Wang Xiao's shadow loomed large. Someone in the boardroom had already fed the press.

As they left, Chen Tao whispered, "She's going to have to prove herself fast. And Wang Xiao isn't going to stop."

Zhang Mei looked up at Liang Wei, determination blazing in her eyes. "Then let's make sure he regrets every move."

Liang Wei's hand brushed against hers once more. This time, the gesture was deliberate, protective.

But even as they exited the room together, both of them were unaware that a new player had entered the game someone from Zhang Mei's past, someone whose return could upend everything they had just begun to build.
