A robbery suspect has been captured after resisting arrest
Just arriving with Erik, Aren sees the suspect been beaten up.
"Confess and it ends quickly" says one of the officer, beating him up. Aren steps up ask him to stop beating the man.
The officer replies: "He belongs to a famous gang, and you don't a thing about him nor the ways we use and ofcourse he will deny it" "but that's not the procedure", Aren replies. Aren insists the suspect be properly arrested under the law
Erik stops him, "leave it, Aren, that's how things goes on, we have to go along with it"
But it did not end there. The case was moved to the court, as he belonged in a gang.
In the court room, Aren enters as a witness and sits on a chair , on the prosecutor's side. When door opens and everyone become quiet.
"Isn't that Prosecutor Veydrick Kaelthorn"
Remembering the name, with a sudden jerk, Aren looks back, and sees the same man from the noodle shop. In a black suit, calm face and intimidating, Veydrick walks forward and gives a glance at Aren for a second and focuses back
While Aren realizes the full depth of his power.
The defense lawyer argues that suspect was beaten by the police, forcing him to confess. Many officers begin to panic.
But Veydrick remains calm and starts speaking slowly:
"From the place where the incident took place, where the goods were stolen from a small godown, the security footage was interestingly deleted.....
The suspect smiles but then Veydrick continues
"....but we have managed to retrieve the footage" The crowd starts to murmur. Aren astonished. As Veydrick continues
"And moreover, the advanced technology that has developed advance chemical and physical methods to identify fingerprints. Confirms that the fingerprints were deliberately erased. And the fingerprints match the robbers one perfectly.
I can call the forensic doctor too, if needed as the result is already in front of you my Lord, and I also request a compension for the victim and his family...
And also, the man was beaten up because he was not ready to confess, and according to the officers who were present at the scene, he even mocked the officers as useless in front of them"
The culprit shouts "you don't know who I am, Mr. Prosecutor". Veydrick replies "I know who you are...a robber"
Everyone astonished as the the verdict was given the same day
The court room slowly empties, Lawyers gather their papers. Officers escort the convicted man away. Aren remains standing near the witness area, watching quietly.
He notices Veydrick collecting documents at the prosecutor's desk.
After a moment, Aren walks toward him.
For a second Veydrick doesn't look up, as if he already knows someone is approaching. "Hello sir, I am Aren Valric...that day.."
Veydrick raises his eyes, the same calm expression
"so you remembered"
"Yes sir"
"Today's trial was amazing Sir...I didn't know you were a prosecutor" Veydrick closes his file calmly. "And I didn't know you were kind and confident, heard about you, but i am dissapointed too"
"Sir?" Replied Aren
"That day when I paid for your noodles"
"Yes sir" and gives him 6 dollars
Aren hesitates, then says seriously:
"Thank you… for not relying on the confession" Veydrick slightly tilts his head "That wasn't for you" Aren is confused
Veydrick continues calmly: "If a prosecutor builds a case on weak evidence, the criminal walks free later." He steps closer, his tone quieter.
"The law is not about kindness. It's about precision."Aren reflects and replies: "But the system is still supposed to protect people."
For the first time, Veydrick studies Aren's face carefully.
Almost like he is evaluating him. And after a quiet breath, he say: "You will learn something soon" and turns to leave
"The law doesn't protect people."
He stops for a moment before walking away.
"It protects power."
Aren watches him go, unsure whether to disagree or understand.
