Maya's POV
"Let me understand this correctly," Penny announced as she threw herself into the office chair with typical theatrical flair. "We're spending our afternoon analyzing security footage to hunt down a mysterious vehicle. Essentially, we've become television private investigators."
"It's not quite the same thing, Penny," I replied while Dominic worked on setting up the computer with the footage his security company contact had provided.
"Oh, but it absolutely is," she persisted, spinning slowly in the chair like a child. "The only things missing are terrible coffee in paper cups and stale pastries. Dominic, please tell me you brought pastries."
Dominic kept his attention focused on the laptop screen and didn't acknowledge her.
"No," he answered curtly.
The coldness between them had been apparent since we'd gathered at Dominic's office an hour earlier. An uncomfortable tension filled the room, and I couldn't understand what was causing it.
