Chapter 1 - The first eclipse

Chapter 1: The First Eclipse

The first thing everyone noticed about Adrian Vale was the silence.

Not the peaceful kind.

The heavy kind. The kind that made conversations shrink and heels click softer against marble floors.

He owned the tallest building in the city — thirty-seven floors of glass, steel, and power. Vale Freight Industries. The largest trucking and logistics company in the country. Thousands of employees. Millions in contracts.

And at the very top floor stood the man they called the Sun.

Because everything revolved around him.

Adrian didn't smile as he stepped out of the elevator, adjusting the cuff of his black suit. His expression was calm, unreadable. Perfect.

"Good morning, sir," his assistant said quickly.

He gave a small nod.

That was enough to make hearts race.

Adrian Vale didn't believe in love.

He believed in contracts. In profits. In control.

Feelings were distractions. Weaknesses.

And he had no time for weakness.

Across the city, under a much smaller sky, Luna Carter was late.

"Of course today," she muttered, struggling to fix her bag strap while running across the street.

She had one chance. One interview. One opportunity to work at Vale Freight Industries — even if it was just an entry-level position.

Rent was due in two weeks.

Her shoes were not made for sprinting.

"Please, just let me get there on time," she whispered to no one in particular.

Unlike Adrian Vale, Luna believed in impossible things.

She believed in second chances.

She believed that hard work could outshine power.

She believed that even the coldest night eventually met the sun.

She just didn't know yet that her sun would burn.

The elevator doors opened.

Luna rushed in without looking—

—and collided straight into a solid chest.

Strong hands caught her before she fell.

Her breath stopped.

Slowly, she looked up.

Dark eyes. Sharp jawline. Calm expression.

Dangerously composed.

The entire elevator went silent.

"I—I'm so sorry," she stammered.

The man studied her for one long second.

Then another.

His voice, when he spoke, was low and controlled.

"You should watch where you're going."

The doors closed.

And for the first time in his perfectly ordered life—

Adrian Vale felt something shift.

Like the sky had moved slightly out of place.

Like day had brushed too close to night.

And somewhere above the city…

The sun had just met the moon.
