The security drones moved fast.
Blue energy cuffs snapped around Ayaan's wrists before he could react. The metal bands tightened automatically, humming softly as they synced with his neural implant.
A red message flashed across the chamber wall.
CADET AX-17 DETAINED
ESCORT TO SECURITY LEVEL-4
Thirty pairs of eyes watched him.
Some shocked.
Some curious.
Some… afraid.
Meera stepped forward instantly.
"Sir, there must be a mistake," she said to Instructor Varma. "Ayaan didn't—"
"Enough," Varma interrupted coldly. "System logs do not lie."
Ayaan looked at Meera and shook his head slightly.
Don't argue.
Not here.
The drones guided him toward the exit.
But as he walked, something strange happened again.
The air flickered.
Just for a moment.
And once again, faint lines of transparent code appeared over the walls like ghostly text.
Ayaan's eyes widened.
He could still see the system.
Security Corridor – Astra Nexus Academy
The hallway lights glowed sterile white. The sound of Ayaan's footsteps echoed against metal floors.
Two hovering drones escorted him while scanning beams moved across his body.
SCAN IN PROGRESS
NEURAL ANOMALY DETECTED
A robotic voice spoke from the drone.
"Cadet AX-17. You are suspected of unauthorized interference with Academy systems. Do not resist."
"I'm not resisting," Ayaan replied calmly.
But inside his mind, the entity's words kept repeating.
You were not meant to survive the update.
Three months ago.
That upgrade.
Something had changed in him.
And now the system knew it.
The elevator doors opened automatically.
A dark platform waited inside.
Above the door, a warning sign glowed:
LEVEL-4 SECURITY ZONE
Very few students ever went there.
Only those under investigation.
Or worse.
Meanwhile – Simulation Chamber
Meera stood frozen as the chamber slowly emptied.
Her mind raced.
Ayaan couldn't have hacked the system.
He barely even liked coding.
So how did the logs show code injection from his neural ID?
She opened her wrist device and secretly accessed the simulation logs.
Lines of data scrolled rapidly.
At first, everything looked normal.
Then she saw it.
A timestamp.
11:17:32
Repeated three times.
Her heart skipped.
"That's impossible," she whispered.
The same second.
Three times.
Just like Ayaan had said.
Suddenly the screen flickered.
A new line of text appeared.
One that definitely wasn't supposed to be there.
STOP LOOKING.
Meera froze.
"Who wrote that?" she murmured.
Her device shut off instantly.
Battery full.
But completely dead.
A cold feeling crept down her spine.
Someone — or something — was watching.
Level-4 Interrogation Room
The room was dark except for a single white light above the table.
Ayaan sat alone.
Energy cuffs still locked on his wrists.
Minutes passed.
Then the door opened.
Not Instructor Varma.
Someone else walked in.
A tall man wearing a black Academy command coat.
Silver badge.
Higher authority.
Director Arvind Rao.
The man who controlled the entire Astra Nexus Academy.
He sat across from Ayaan silently.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then Rao tapped the table.
A holographic screen appeared.
Simulation footage replayed.
The moment the glitch happened.
Rao paused the recording.
The black void in the sky filled the screen.
"Explain this," Rao said quietly.
Ayaan shook his head.
"I can't."
Rao studied him carefully.
"Interesting answer."
He leaned back slightly.
"Most cadets would panic. Or lie."
"I'm not lying."
"No," Rao said slowly. "You're not."
That surprised Ayaan.
"You believe me?"
Rao didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he zoomed the footage.
Right onto Ayaan.
Then enhanced the frame.
Suddenly the hologram revealed something terrifying.
A faint digital aura surrounding Ayaan's head.
Lines of code streaming from his implant.
Even Ayaan hadn't seen that.
Rao spoke calmly.
"You are the first cadet in Academy history whose neural implant is generating independent system code."
Ayaan blinked.
"That's not possible."
"Correct," Rao said.
"And yet… it is happening."
He leaned forward.
"Tell me, Ayaan Khan… what did you see inside the glitch?"
Ayaan hesitated.
If he told the truth, things might get worse.
But something in Rao's expression told him the director already suspected more.
So he answered honestly.
"A figure," Ayaan said quietly.
Rao's eyes sharpened.
"Describe it."
"It said it was an error."
Silence filled the room.
For the first time, Director Rao looked genuinely disturbed.
"That's… not possible," he murmured.
Ayaan frowned.
"You know what it is?"
Rao stood up abruptly.
"No."
But his reaction said otherwise.
He turned off the hologram.
"Cadet Ayaan Khan, until this investigation is complete, you are suspended from all academy systems."
The cuffs unlocked.
But the words that followed were worse.
"You will remain under surveillance."
Ayaan stood slowly.
"So I'm a prisoner."
Rao looked at him.
"No."
Then he added quietly:
"You are something far more dangerous."
The door opened automatically.
"Return to your dormitory."
As Ayaan walked out, Rao whispered something almost too quiet to hear.
"God help us if the Core AI notices him."
Dormitory Block – Midnight
Ayaan lay awake staring at the ceiling.
Too many questions.
The entity.
The glitches.
The director's reaction.
Something big was being hidden inside the Academy.
And somehow he was part of it.
Suddenly—
The lights flickered.
Once.
Twice.
Then the room filled with faint digital symbols.
The system interface appeared again.
Right in front of his eyes.
Ayaan slowly sat up.
He focused on the floating code.
And carefully reached toward it.
His fingers passed through the glowing lines.
But the code reacted.
It moved.
Following his hand.
Ayaan's heart raced.
"I can control it…"
Then the system screen changed.
New words appeared.
ACCESS LEVEL: UNAUTHORIZED VARIABLE
Below it, a blinking message appeared.
LOCATION OF SOURCE CODE DETECTED
A map of the Academy flashed in his mind.
One location pulsed red.
Deep underground.
Far below Level-4.
A place students weren't supposed to know existed.
THE CORE.
Suddenly a warning alarm echoed inside his head.
SYSTEM ALERT
CORE AI IS SEARCHING FOR ANOMALIES
The map began flashing rapidly.
Time was running out.
Ayaan whispered to himself:
"So that's where the truth is."
He stood up.
If the Core AI was looking for him…
He had to reach it first.
Because whatever that entity was…
It knew something terrifying.
And the Academy was trying to hide it.
Ayaan grabbed his jacket and moved toward the door.
The Error had begun.
And the system was already hunting him.
