Deep in the savannah, five warrior families wielded powers granted by ancient spirits. Each had a gift and a price.
- Djanahs: Masters of _nsaman_ (spirits). They bent reality, foreseeing threats. But too many spirits drove them toward madness.
- Owases: Shape-shifters, turning beast or human. Each switch etched pain in their bones.
- Aduas :Woven with plants. They summoned vines, controlled growth. But blight spread fast if they faltered.
- Mensahs: Metalworkers with a touch. They melted steel, shaped bullets. But iron's weakness bled them too.
- Kwofies: Whisperers to animals. They commanded beasts but lived with prey's heartbeat.
Strengths made them gods; flaws kept them wary. As a result of the nature of their powers, they needed to select someone who would keep the entire kingdom together a total head in control of the activities. They decided that a head will be chosen by the top warrior during the war against the beasts and following the nature of their powers, The Djanahs were the one who had the most fierce prowess of being able to bend spirits and reality in itself.The families walked a tightrope, balancing might and cost with the djanah being the head, but most families still believed that they were the better ones but decided not to speak out for fear of the djanah power. But the seed of malice and hatred existed in their hearts.
