Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Claimed by the Alpha

The rain had stopped, but the storm inside Isabella's mind was far from over. Her hands shook as she pressed them to her chest, trying to slow her erratic heartbeat. Across the street, the man in black had vanished, leaving only the echo of his final words lingering in the air:

"You can't hide from me, Isabella. Not tonight. Not ever."

She didn't know if she was trembling from fear, anger, or the way her body had responded to danger. Perhaps it was all three at once.

And then, before she could gather her thoughts, the deep growl of an engine cut through the silence. A black car slid to a stop outside her building. Its headlights barely illuminated the street, but she knew who it was immediately.

Cassian Vieri.

He stepped out, water dripping from his tailored coat, hair plastered to his forehead. He didn't rush toward her, didn't shout or demand. He simply walked, each step precise, deliberate, as if he owned not only the street but the very air around her.

"Isabella," he said, voice calm, low, and dangerous. "You're coming with me."

"Excuse me?" Her voice cracked. "I'm not going anywhere with you!"

He tilted his head slightly, just enough to let her know he found her defiance amusing. "I don't think you understand the situation. You have two armed men watching you. One more step outside, and" he paused, letting the threat hang in the air like a guillotine. "And I can't guarantee your safety. Or the child's."

Her stomach tightened. Every instinct screamed that he was right. She didn't even have time to process her options. Either she went with him willingly or risked being caught, harmed, or worse.

"Fine," she said through gritted teeth, trying to hide the panic in her voice. "But I don't trust you. And I'm not your prisoner."

Cassian's lips quivered, not quite a smile. More like a predator acknowledging its prey. "I never asked you to trust me, Isabella. I asked you to survive."

Inside the car, silence stretched. The tension was suffocating, the kind of quiet that made every heartbeat feel like a drum echoing in a canyon. Isabella's fingers dug into her knees, trying to steady herself. She glanced at him once. His jaw was tight, eyes locked on the road, hands gripping the wheel with a controlled strength that screamed dominance.

"You're… quiet," she finally said, voice shaking. "Do you always look this terrifying?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he glanced at her briefly. The storm in his eyes was both dangerous and fascinating, and she realized with a shiver that she could feel it pulling at her, like gravity.

The drive to the Vieri estate was mercifully short, but every moment stretched like hours. Isabella couldn't help stealing glances at him. Every line of his face, every movement, screamed authority. And something else. Something raw, primal, almost… feral.

When they arrived, the estate rose before her like a fortress. Towers glinted in the fading sunlight, and the gates, wrought iron and impossibly high, seemed designed to keep the world out. Or perhaps, more frighteningly, to keep people in.

"You'll wait here," Cassian said, opening the passenger door. His hand lingered near hers, subtle but commanding. "Do not leave the car until I say so."

Her chest tightened. The Alpha's command wasn't a request. It was the law. And the law in his world didn't bend for anyone.

Inside, the grand hallway swallowed her. Marble floors reflected the crystal chandeliers, and portraits of men and women ancestors? Alphas?, stared down as if judging her worthiness. Her pulse raced as footsteps echoed behind her.

Cassian appeared at her side. "Follow me."

She did, unwilling but unable to resist the pull he exerted. Every step she took toward him felt like crossing a line she couldn't cross.

"Why are you doing this?" she finally asked, voice barely above a whisper.

He stopped and turned to face her. Rain clung to his coat, making the dark fabric shimmer. "Because I will protect what's mine. And you, Isabella… and the child you carry… are mine."

Her stomach lurched. She wanted to deny it, to fight it, but the truth was undeniable. He had claimed her, and for the first time in weeks, she realized she had no choice but to obey.

The night deepened, and Isabella was escorted to a room overlooking the estate's gardens. A fire crackled in the fireplace, casting flickering shadows across the walls. The space was luxurious, intimidating, almost suffocating.

She sat on the edge of the bed, running her hands over her stomach. Fear, defiance, and a strange heat coursed through her. Her phone buzzed again a new message from an unknown number:

"The child will make him weak. Or unstoppable. Choose wisely."

Her heart skipped. Someone else knew. Someone else was watching. Someone else had already stepped into this dangerous game.

Cassian entered without knocking. His presence filled the room immediately. She couldn't look away. His eyes, dark and piercing, studied her as though he were deciding whether she deserved to breathe.

"You shouldn't be alone," he said, voice low, almost intimate. "Not with them out there."

"Who?" she demanded, voice trembling, though her defiance burned bright. "Who's out there?"

He didn't answer directly. He stepped closer, just enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from him. "Enemies," he said finally. "They've been watching you since before tonight. But don't worry… I don't miss it."

Her breath hitched. She wanted to step back, but the wall was behind her. He was closer than she wanted. His presence, overwhelming and intense, made her pulse thrum.

"I don't belong in your world," she whispered.

Cassian's jaw flexed. "No. But your child does."

The fire flickered, shadows dancing across his sharp features. His hands didn't touch her, but the tension in the room was a contact of its own. Her heart raced in time with his quiet, predatory movements.

"You will stay here," he said finally, leaving no room for argument. "Tonight, tomorrow… until I decide you're safe. And if you try to run…" He let the words linger, deadly and intimate. "…I will find you. Always."

Isabella's mind spun. Fear, desire, and something she didn't dare name tangled in her chest. She realized with a shock that survival was no longer just about running from danger. It was about surviving him.

Isabella pressed her back against the plush headboard, chest rising and falling like a drum. The fire crackled, casting shadows across the room, but it did little to calm her racing thoughts. Every nerve in her body screamed that the night was far from over. She couldn't stop picturing those armed men, the figure across the street, and Cassian's cold, intense gaze.

Her fingers drifted to her stomach. A flutter, a small kick from the child, made her wince. She wasn't just alone in this anymore. She was carrying a life that tied her irrevocably to the most dangerous man she had ever met.

The door opened again, slow and deliberate. Cassian's shadow stretched across the room before he stepped inside. He didn't rush. He didn't apologize. He simply walked, predatory and poised, until he stood a mere foot away.

"You're awake," he said, voice low, almost intimate, and somehow terrifying. "Good."

She swallowed hard. "I… I can't stay here. I can't"

"You can," he interrupted, flat and final. "Because it's the only way to survive. The only way your child survives. The only way you survive."

She wanted to argue. She wanted to fight. But when she looked into his eyes, the truth was undeniable, he wasn't bluffing. And deep down, a part of her knew she had no choice.

Cassian's gaze dropped to her stomach. His fingers flexed, almost unconsciously. "They're already aware," he murmured. "Your… condition makes you a target. A bargaining chip. And they won't hesitate."

Isabella felt her stomach twist. "Who?"

He didn't answer directly. Instead, he circled the room slowly, silent as a shadow. "Enemies. People who would rather see both of you gone than alive. People who have watched me… and now you."

Fear rose like a tide, cold and relentless. She had always survived on her own instincts, her stubbornness, her ability to run. But here… here instincts weren't enough. Here, she was a woman in the lion's den, carrying his child, caught in a world she didn't fully understand.

"You don't understand my world," he said finally, voice dropping low. "And I don't expect you to. But there's one rule you must never forget."

She looked up, meeting his gaze. Every nerve in her body screamed both fear and fascination. "Which rule?"

"You do not disobey me," he said simply, flatly. "Not in my territory. Not tonight. Not ever. And if you do…" He let the words hang, heavy, unspoken threats curling in the air like smoke.

Her pulse raced. She wanted to argue, scream, insist on her freedom but her voice caught in her throat. Part of her wanted to hate him, to push him away, to resist but the other part… the part she didn't want to admit, knew she couldn't.

The child stirred again, and she pressed her hand over her stomach. Cassian's eyes followed hers, and for a moment, something softer almost imperceptible passed over his features. Protection. Possession. Obsession.

"Sleep," he said finally, moving to the door. "Tomorrow, you will meet the others. Until then, rest. You'll need your strength."

She watched him leave, heart pounding, mind racing. The fire crackled. Shadows danced across the walls. And outside, the world still waited, dangerous, relentless, and full of enemies who didn't care who got hurt.

Isabella curled up on the bed, one hand pressed to her stomach, and realized something terrifying, she wasn't just surviving anymore. She was living in a world ruled by a man she couldn't ignore… and a child that made her powerless in ways she had never imagined.
