Chapter 17 - **Chapter 17: Quiet Revenge at Crypto.com**

The Crypto.com Arena lights burned purple and gold as always, but tonight the Clippers bench sat in red and blue. Arjun Reddy stood at the end of the line during warm-ups, creamy golden-brown hair flowing long and voluminous on top with the tight fade catching every spotlight, the single black stud earring glinting whenever he turned his head. The quiet arrogant smirk rested on his handsome 18-year-old face — calm, unreadable, the new persona locked in. No trash talk. No celebrations. Just silent execution.

The crowd — a mix of Lakers die-hards and curious neutrals — roared when LeBron James and Anthony Davis were introduced. "MVP!" chants echoed every time LeBron touched the ball in layup lines. When the PA announcer called Arjun Reddy's name as a reserve, the reaction was polite scattered applause at best. No cameras swung his way. Media row stayed glued to the stars. Arjun didn't flinch. The system panel hovered silently in his vision:

Allrounder Role Active.

Quota Target: 7 PTS | 5 AST | 5 REB | 4 STOCKS (when on floor).

Revenge Quest Progress: Facing Former Team Detected.

Coach Tyronn Lue gathered the team in the huddle before tip-off. "We play our game. Second unit stays connected. Reddy, you're in for Kennard around the 8-minute mark of the second quarter. Fifteen minutes. Run it clean."

Arjun nodded once, no words. The game tipped off.

First Quarter – Clippers vs Lakers

Lakers won the tip. LeBron pushed in transition. AD rolled hard. Clippers big Ivica Zubac contested. Miss. Rebound to Marcus Morris Sr. Clippers ball.

Reggie Jackson brought it up. High screen with Zubac. LeBron switched. Reggie attacked, kicked out to Paul George for a corner three. Swish. Clippers 3-0.

Lakers answered. LeBron iso on George. Drive, kick to Russell Westbrook on the wing. Three. Miss. Rebound to AD. Lakers pushed. AD posted Zubac. Hook shot. Good. Lakers 3-3.

Clippers ball. Reggie pushed. Arjun watched from the bench, creamy hair still perfect under the lights. The crowd roared for LeBron's every touch. No one noticed the rookie on the far end of the bench.

Lakers scored again on a LeBron and-one. Clippers down 6-3.

Clippers answered with a George pull-up. 6-5.

The quarter flowed back and forth. Lakers led 28-24 at the buzzer. LeBron had 9 points, AD 8. The crowd chanted "MVP" as the teams headed to the bench. No one mentioned the rookie with the flowing creamy hair.

Second Quarter – Arjun Enters

At 8:12 remaining, the horn sounded. Arjun stood, peeled off his warm-up jacket, and jogged to the scorer's table. The PA announcer called his name again. Polite applause. Nothing more. Cameras stayed on LeBron.

Arjun checked in for Luke Kennard. Reggie Jackson at point, Terance Mann at two, Marcus Morris at four, Zubac at five. Clippers trailed 32-26.

First Possession – Arjun on Floor

Reggie brought the ball up. Arjun filled the right wing. LeBron guarded him loosely at first. Reggie swung it to Morris at the elbow. Morris drove baseline. LeBron rotated help. Arjun slipped behind the defense and received the pocket pass from Morris — perfect touch. Easy layup.

Assist 1.

Score: Clippers 28, Lakers 32.

The crowd gave a mild cheer for the bucket. No one noticed who delivered it.

Lakers answered. LeBron pushed in transition. Arjun rotated help-side on AD's roll, absorbed the contact with his strengthened 212-pound frame, and poked the ball loose from LeBron's dribble. He recovered it cleanly on the floor.

Stock 1 (steal).

Arjun pushed the break himself, creamy hair whipping as he sprinted. Hit Reggie on the wing for a quick three. Swish.

Assist 2.

Rebound 1 (defensive on the previous miss).

Score: Clippers 31, Lakers 32.

Lakers called a quick huddle. LeBron pointed at Arjun, muttering something to the bench. The crowd roared for the pace, but still no reaction to the rookie in red and blue.

Next Lakers possession. AD posted up Zubac. Arjun helped from the weak side, contested the hook, forced a miss. He boxed out LeBron on the weak side and grabbed the long rebound in traffic.

Rebound 2.

Outlet to Reggie. Clippers pushed. Arjun filled the corner. Reggie kicked it back. Arjun rose into the three — high arc, perfect rotation. Swish.

Points 1-3.

The Clippers bench clapped politely. Paul George, sitting nearby, muttered, "That's the vision." Kawhi gave the smallest nod from the sideline.

Lakers — answered with a three from Westbrook off the bench. Clippers down by 1. Arjun brought it up. High pick-and-roll with Zubac. LeBron switched onto him. Arjun used the screen, attacked the gap, drew help from AD, and dropped a perfect bounce pass to Zubac rolling to the rim. Dunk.

Assist 3.

Score: Clippers 36, Lakers 35.

The arena noise stayed focused on LeBron's every move. Media cameras tracked him exclusively.

Lakers pushed again. Westbrook iso'd Arjun. Quick crossover, drive. Arjun slid his feet perfectly, forced the baseline, contested the floater. Miss. He grabbed the defensive rebound over Westbrook.

Rebound 3.

Push. Reggie called "45." Arjun set the screen, slipped it, caught the pass on the roll, and drained the mid-range pull-up with a soft touch.

Points 4.

The Clippers led by 2. Still, the crowd's energy remained tied to the purple and gold.

Mid-quarter. Lakers called timeout. Arjun walked to the bench, towel over his shoulders, creamy hair slightly tousled but still flowing. The smirk never left. Coach Lue gave him a quick "keep it rolling" nod. Paul George leaned in. "You're making it look easy out there, kid. Stay locked."

Second half of the quarter. Lakers came out aggressive. LeBron drove. Arjun rotated, took the charge — whistle. Offensive foul on LeBron. The crowd groaned. Arjun stood, adjusted his jersey, smirk deepening just a fraction.

Clippers inbound. Arjun pushed tempo again. Attack on Westbrook. Hesitation, euro-step, layup off the glass.

Points 5.

Rebound 4 came on the next Lakers miss when he boxed out AD and tipped the ball to himself.

Lakers answered with a three from westbrook . Clippers down by 1. Arjun brought it up. Pick-and-roll with Morris. LeBron switched. Arjun attacked, drew the double, kicked out to Reggie for a corner three. Swish.

Assist 4.

The Clippers led again. Crowd noise remained moderate — polite for the visitors.

Final two minutes of Arjun's shift. Lakers pushed. AD posted. Arjun helped, stripped the ball from AD's hands on the drive.

Stock 2 (steal).

Push. Found Terance Mann cutting for a dunk.

Assist 5.

Lakers answered. Arjun guarded Westbrook. Quick drive. Arjun blocked the layup attempt cleanly, sending it into the stands.

Stock 3 (block).

Rebound 5 (defensive).

Final possession before his shift ended. Clippers up by 3. Arjun brought it up. High screen. LeBron switched. Arjun attacked, drew the help, kicked to Morris for a three. Miss. Arjun crashed, boxed out Westbrook, and grabbed the offensive rebound. Put-back.

Points 6-7.

Rebound 6 (offensive, counted toward quota).

Stock 4 came on the next defensive possession when he poked the ball from LeBron on the inbound and recovered it.

Horn sounded. Arjun's 15 minutes complete.

Final line for Arjun Reddy (15:00 minutes):

7 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks.

Quota met perfectly. The Clippers led 62-57 at halftime. The crowd gave scattered applause as the teams headed to the locker room. No cameras followed Arjun. No interviews. The media swarmed LeBron and AD.

But on the Clippers bench, the professionals saw everything. Paul George slapped his back. "You just ran the second unit like a vet. Clean as hell." Kawhi nodded once — the ultimate compliment. Coach Lue scribbled notes, then looked up. "Reddy, that's exactly what we need. Film tomorrow will show it."

Even Lakers assistant coaches on the opposite sideline exchanged glances during the break. "That Indian kid the Clippers picked up for cash… he's doing everything quietly. Watch the film — he's the connector."

The third quarter opened without Arjun. The Clippers maintained the lead. The crowd roared for every Lakers run. Arjun sat, creamy hair still perfect, black earring catching the lights, smirk intact. He knew the professionals had noticed. The system panel pulsed once:

Allrounder Quota 100% Met.

Preseason Game Logged.

Revenge Quest Progress: Former Team Faced — Notice Registered.

Fourth quarter. Clippers up by 8. Arjun remained on the bench the rest of the way — Lue wanted to preserve the young legs. The game stayed competitive. LeBron dropped 28 points. AD had 22 and 12. But the Clippers second unit — sparked by Arjun's earlier minutes — held firm. Final score: Clippers 112, Lakers 104.

Post-game, the tunnel filled with handshakes. LeBron gave Arjun a respectful nod as they passed. "Good run out there, kid." AD clapped his shoulder. "You played hard." No more words. The Lakers moved on.

Clippers locker room was calm. Reggie Jackson found Arjun at his locker. "You made my job easy tonight, rookie. That's how we do it here." Paul George stopped by. "Tape's gonna look good on you. Keep stacking." Kawhi simply said, "Solid," before leaving.

No media waited for Arjun outside. No highlight reel. Just another preseason win for the Clippers.

But inside the arena tunnels, the professionals whispered. The quiet Indian rookie with the flowing creamy hair and black earring had done exactly what the Allrounder role demanded — and done it against the team that had thrown him away for cash.

Arjun walked out into the Los Angeles night, the subtle arrogant smirk still on his lips. The crowd hadn't noticed. The media hadn't cared.

The league would soon have no choice.
