Chapter 1 - 0: Prologue - Sebastian Evans

"The world is cruel and unfair. It is a brutal place."

A voice of a man echoed in a conference room. Behind him was a projection of what appeared to be an image of a man carrying a bow and arrow. The man on the had blue patterns engraved onto his skin.

While the man in the conference room stood in front of an uninterested audience wearing nothing but silk clothing, he continued his speech.

"People are all smashed against each despite being millions of miles apart."

The man took a brief pause and chuckled.

"When everything starts to fall apart, people need an anchor. Something to hold on to."

His ocean blue eyes grew fierce as he spoke, excitement almost leaking out of his eyes. He could not help but smile as he thought of his newest idea.

This man was Sebastian Evans, a game inventor. Today he had to present an idea to a popular gaming company called "Code X Games".

"I'm sorry, Mr Evans, but this game of yours... It does not seem very competitive."

A female executive responded.

"Well, it's not.", Sebastian responded with a smile. "This game is not designed to make gamers compete against each other. It is about building a community."

"You see, there are thousands of skins in this game. Each with its own unique ability that is beneficial to building a community. Gamers from all around the world must work together to build a safe and working environment. Not out of violence but of clear communication and support from each other."

For a brief moment, there was silence in the room. Sebastian's smile never faltered as he thought he had done well. In his world of view, his game was going to change the world.

A calm breath escaped the lips of the Chief executive Officer.

"Mr Evans. Your presentation was well told. And we love how passionate you are about your idea."

The other board members nodded and murmured in agreement.

"But I'm gonna change the world. I just need your help.", Sebastian pleaded, his face still wearing a smile.

"I'm certain your are. It's just... not a great fit for us this time."

Upon hearing their answer, Sebastian felt like his world had crumbled. But the female board member was not done.

"We're in a competitive market, Mr Evans. Although you may have passion, we need a little more than just that."

Every word she spoke felt like a knife to the heart.

'Oh, so that's how it is.'

Sebastian felt like a fool for expecting anything. When had his life been fair in the first place.

He took all his presentation and hurriedly went for the door. As he walked out, he could hear them laughing.

"Change the world. Can you believe that guy."

They were laughing at him.

Sebastian exited the Code X Games building. He stood by the entrance for a few breaths.

"Jerks!", his brows furrowed as he spat and walked off.

At that moment, he was feeling a lot of emotions.

Anger. Frustration. Embarrassment. Regret.

He didn't pay attention to his surroundings until he almost walked into traffic. He felt a hand pull him from behind and saw a truck rush by.

He lost his breath almost immediately and dropped his files.

"The heck man, you got a death wish or something?"

The person who pulled him out of harms way spoke as he helped him to get up.

He looked young and it was hard to see his face due to the hoodie and mask he was wearing.

But one thing Sebastian was sure of were the kid's eyes. They were Violet.

It wasn't strange to see someone with a unique eye color. In fact, Sebastian had seen many different eye colors.

But never were they as mesmerizing as the boys.

"You okay?"

The boy asked. His voice came out not out of complete concern but out of curiosity.

He could see Sebastian staring at him and it made him excited.

He smiled with his eyes as he reached down to pick up the files Sebastian had dropped.

"Oh, Thank you."

Sebastian thanked the boy.

No response came. The boy was already lost in the sketches in front of him.

"Woah, this is so cool."

The boy spoke.

Sebastian looked at the sketch and gave the boy a smile before retrieving it.

"Yeah, well you're the only one who thinks so. Besides me of course."

The boy looked at him and tilted his head.

"Are you a game developer Mr?"

Sebastian nodded.

"Woah, does that mean you're going to make that game?"

The boy said as he read through the documents he picked up.

"Sadly no. My idea was not approved."

There was a hint of sadness in Sebastian's voice, even the boy caught it.

"Why?"

The boy asked.

Honestly, Sebastian did not know what came over him. Maybe he needed someone to talk to and so he told the boy everything.

He would occasionally glance at the boy only to be surprised to hear him listening so attentively.

The boy would ask questions here and there and listen most of the time.

After finishing his story, Sebastian felt the weight lift off of his shoulders a little. It was then he felt a hand tapping him on his shoulder.

"There, There. It'll be fine, Mr."

What ridiculous situation was this. The boy looked to be around 15 if not 14 and yet he was comforting him, a 30 year old man.

He couldn't help but smile.

"What a shame. If that game was released, I'd wanna play it."

The boy said, earnestly.

Those words came as a shock to Sebastian. He gave a glance to the boy and saw from his eyes that those weren't the words of pity.

Was he being genuine.

Whatever, hearing those words warmed his heart.

"Hey kid, what's your name?"

There was a brief pause before the boy responded.

"Jason."

He spoke without emotion.

"That's my name."
