There I was, standing in the middle of the crowd, watching the girl of my dreams slow dancing and kissing the girl I thought was her ex.
Yes, that's right. Tally is back with Kylie, the Gamma. And I'm the last one to know.
I was just about to talk to Tally one on one when I saw her alone. I had the words ready. I had the courage. Then, two steps away from reaching her, Kylie showed up and stole my Alpha. She just slid right in like she never left.
They broke up. Yes, they did. It happened in front of the entire school on the last day of high school. It was a huge fight, a clean break. Everyone saw it. Everyone knew. People were talking about it for weeks. That day was the happiest day of my life, because I thought the obstacle was gone for good. I thought the path was finally clear for me.
But now? They're back together.
Today is officially the worst day of my life.
How am I supposed to make Tally notice me if that bitch is cockblocking? She's always there, glued to Tally's side like a shadow. And right now, I'm in the middle of a breakdown, while my so called best friend is busy making out with some tall girl I've never seen before in a corner. She's completely forgotten I even exist.
Gosh, I can't take this torture. It's too much for one person.
I need a drink. I need it to heal my broken heart and figure out how to get close to Tally and take my Alpha back. I need to think, but the music is too loud and the air is too thick with the scent of other werewolves.
I moved toward the drink stand and ordered a cocktail. I didn't even care what was in it as long as it was cold. As I turned, still staring at Tally and Kylie across the room, I accidentally bumped into someone.
My drink spilled all over her. The liquid splashed across her front, soaking into the fabric.
"Fucking hell. Can't you watch where you're going?"
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to" I rushed out. I started reaching out, trying to brush it off her shirt. It was a black sleeve, but the stain was dark and obvious.
She stepped back, moving out of my reach before I could touch her.
That's when I properly looked at her.
Her hair was a deep red, like wine. She had features that were so similar to Tally's, but her expression was sharp, irritated, and dangerous. She had that same jawline, that same royal posture.
Then she looked at me.
And just like that, her anger shifted. It changed into something else, like she recognized me.
Before I could react, she grabbed my hand. She pulled me forward so suddenly I almost fell into her chest. I could smell her scent, something spicy and strong.
"Of all people to run into today, it had to be you, Omega" she said with a smile. Her dimples showed. She leaned closer, her eyes locked onto mine. "I finally found you. And I'm not letting you go. Not this time."
Her face was inches from mine. My heart was racing. Something about her felt familiar. The dimples, the intense blue eyes that looked just like Tally's but with a different spark.
"Sorry. Do I know you?" I asked. I noticed people starting to stare at us. The music seemed to fade into the background as the tension rose.
"Wow. Jack Blue forgot me so soon?" she teased. She looked amused by my confusion. "Your first kiss"
Of course.
How could I ever forget the girl who stole my first kiss? It was years ago, a summer night that felt like a lifetime away.
"You. You're Reddy Whyte," I said. My expression instantly hardening into a glare.
Reddy Whyte.
Tally's evil twin sister.
My worst nightmare.
I thought she'd been sent away to some boarding school. Everyone said she was gone for good. Back then, she was nothing but trouble. She was mean, annoying, and she always made my life miserable.
And now she's back.
But she looks different. Not like she did seven years ago. Maybe it's the haircut. The color of her hair. Or the way she carries herself now.
She's more charming.
Which somehow makes it worse.
Now I understood why people were staring. The energy in the room had shifted. The other Alpha is back. The twin who was supposed to be the black sheep.
"Reddy, let go of my hand. Now," I said. I tried to pull away, but her grip was like iron.
"Why should I?" she replied. She only tightened her grip. "You ruined my shirt. How do you plan on paying for it?"
"Please stop. People are staring." I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. I hated being the center of attention, especially with her.
"Let them stare," she said casually. She didn't seem to care about the crowd at all. "Answer the question. This shirt is expensive. It's silk."
Her appearance may have changed, but that cocky, annoying personality?
Still there.
"Fine. I'll pay for the cleaning. Just let me go, will you?" I pleaded. I just wanted to get away from her and find a place to hide.
"I'm not letting you go until you fix your mess. Do you hear me, Jack?" she insisted. Her grip was firm and unyielding. She looked like she was enjoying this way too much.
Seriously. I meant it when I said today was the worst day of my life.
Because it really is. First Tally is with Kylie, and now this.
"Let the Omega go."
A voice cut through the crowd. It was calm but carried a weight that made everyone go silent.
Still holding my hand, Reddy and I turned toward it.
I already knew that voice. I would know it anywhere. But I needed to see it to believe it.
It was Tally.
She was standing there, staring at her twin sister. Her blue eyes were cold. She didn't look at me, she only looked at Reddy.
And for the first time in seven years…
Tally Whyte didn't look happy.
