Later. Peter went to check on Octavius, who had been badly beaten and broken by the Heirs. However, the penthouse was empty. Neither Jason nor any trace of him were there. Parker called the other Spiders for help.
"He couldn't have just disappeared," said Miguel.
"He could have, he's Octavius.
Pete was less worried about Octavius himself than about the words he had spoken after his confession about turning back time.
"And why could he? He knows about the danger of the Heirs, and he's not a psychopath.
"I turned back time," Peter said suddenly.
"What?
"You heard me. And you were there when it happened, Miguel. The Goblin killed Jess, and I became violent. The Bloody Spider. Then the Weaver and a few others reversed time. I fixed everything. I saved Jessica. But Silk died because of it. And now Jason will repeat my fate. He talked about it. Fate cannot be changed, only slightly influenced.
"This... Shock, Parker, what shock?!
"I know. We need to find Octavius before he kills someone. Are you with me?
"Let's go.
Spider-Man 2099 and Peter moved through the city in search of Jason "Octopus" Octavius. What frightened Peter most was that he had already started killing. Bloody trials of criminals without investigation or fair punishment took place every few minutes, and the police couldn't stop it.
"Are you sure it's him?" Miguel asked, looking at the police cars with their sirens blaring.
"Yes, unfortunately... I was the same. The city was drowning in the blood of my enemies. You tried to stop me...
At that moment, an explosion rocked the bank where the heroes were headed. Landing near the building, they decided to wait for Octopus. Pete made sure no one would get hurt during the robbery, and Miguel sat down on a ledge, waiting for Jason to arrive.
A moment later, there was a clang of metal, and Octopus burst into the building. However, instead of his usual green glow, he was red. Bloody red. Octavius dealt with the gangsters, leaving them no chance of escape. Peter and Miguel were late, but managed to catch Jason at the scene.
A fight broke out. Pete and 2099 tried to neutralise him without striking him hard, but Octavius didn't even flinch. He incapacitated his partners with his tentacles.
"Did you come to fix me?!" he asked with a sob.
"Jace, stop... You know that killing others won't bring her back. Enough.
"YOU KILLED HER, PARKER! YOU COULDN'T ACCEPT LOSING JESS, AND LOOK WHAT IT'S LED TO!!!" Octavius shouted. "Morlan killed her right in front of me... She was tortured, Peter! SHE FOUGHT ALL THESE BASTARDS! You think you did a good thing?! No... You ruined everything.
"Jason, we'll fix everything, I promise.
"There's nothing to fix. Don't get in my way, Parker.
"Don't even think about it!" Peter managed to shout before Octavius slammed him into the ceiling.
Landing on the floor, Spider-Man looked around, but Jason was already gone.
"Go after him, Spider-Man. I'll take care of this," Miguel said.
Peter nodded and jumped out of the building. Hooking his web onto a pole, he flew after Octopus. A little further, and he spotted him moving towards Times Square. Pete almost stopped Jason, but a red baton flew straight into Octavius's head and did the job. He fell down and landed with a crash. Spider-Man followed him.Octavius got to his feet. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen, Daredevil, jumped down from the advertising stand. Peter joined his old friend. The partners didn't even have time to move before Octopus effortlessly defeated his opponents again.
"Stop, enough!" said Pete, trying to break free from the tentacles. "We can settle this peacefully..."
"Peacefully?! Are you talking about peace, Spider?! That's ridiculous!
"Listen, she's gone. What we did can't be undone. You have to fight this feeling, Octopus. The feeling of revenge. Listen to me.
"No.
"Then I'll have to use my fists to make you understand.
Pete broke free from the grip, damaging one tentacle, and managed to tear off the second one, saving Daredevil from a painful death in the steel clutches. The battle in Times Square continued. Soon, Spider-Man 2099 joined the fray, having finished the robbery. Three against one. Sounds unfair, right? But that's not the case. Octavius knocked out Devil and Miguel, grabbed Peter by the leg, and escaped on his remaining tentacles.
"Damn... Where could he have gone?" asked 2099, coming to his senses.
"Towards the harbour. I can hear his tentacles," Matt replied.
"Thanks. I'll take it from here.
"I'm with you... another Spider-Man.
"Better stay here. Someone might need help.
Miguel got to his feet and followed Octavius as he ran away.
A little later. Jason threw Peter straight onto the roof of an abandoned building on the pier in Hell's Kitchen. The spider, breaking through the roof with his body, landed on the floor wet from the river water.
"Fight.
"Stop...
"This will be a fair fight. Just you and me.
"Octopus... No. Jason, stop! I don't want to hurt you.
"Hurt you? You've already taken everything from me.
"I know how you feel, Jason. You have to...
"Of course you know! You've been in this situation before, many times! So why does it keep happening over and over again?!
"That's our life, Jason. We either endure and overcome. Or we fall to the dark side and become no better than the Heirs. That's our destiny. The destiny of heroes.
"Yes, I know. But you were able to bring Jess back. And I lost Cindy forever!
"I'm sorry, I really am. You know that, Jason. She would have wanted you to take revenge. But not on people. On the Heirs. They are responsible for her death.
"Yes...
"And we'll do it. We'll get revenge. All together. For Sholk.
"For Silk...
