Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Satoru Gojo — Even If You’re a Curse, It’s No Problem

...

Dessert shop

After wrapping things up with that cursed spirit, Gojo Shun very quickly found Gojo Satoru in Sendai City's most famous dessert shop.

He stared at his uncle, utterly speechless.

"Uncle, that was seriously crossing the line. What if I had gotten killed by that cursed spirit?"

"You do know that curse has killed quite a few sorcerers already."

Satoru was happily tasting his dessert, all smiles as he scooped up another bite.

"Aren't you perfectly fine right now? Besides, your uncle has a lot of faith in your strength, Shun."

As he spoke, he raised a big thumbs up.

"You are the man who is going to become the King of Jujutsu."

Shun's eyes turned into dead fish eyes as he glared at him.

"I still remember back when you used to..."

"Eat your dessert."

The moment Shun saw that his uncle was about to expose some dark history, he immediately grabbed the bread in front of him and stuffed it into Satoru's mouth.

"Mmff..."

Satoru nearly choked to death.

Shun slid into the seat on Satoru's other side and said, "I did not manage to kill that cursed spirit."

"I see."

Satoru chewed his dessert like a hamster, cheeks puffed, nodding repeatedly. He looked as if this outcome was exactly what he had expected.

"I only killed one of her clones."

That type situation was not actually uncommon. Shun had not yet figured out the exact form of her technique. For a curse that had not even truly reached special grade to survive this long under repeated hunts from sorcerers, the only explanation was that seamless, traceless technique of hers.

"Oh? So it was that miraculous curse of yours that told you?"

Satoru lifted his head and asked.

The "curse" he was referring to was the thing Shun had once mistaken for a system. To be fair, from the way it behaved, it did look a lot like one. It was just that the rewards were absolutely pathetic.

Shun nodded.

"That, and there is one more thing. That cursed spirit seemed to know my name."

At that, Satoru finally showed a bit of interest.

"That curse, female or male?"

"Female."

"Pretty?"

"Not bad at all."

Shun nodded. If they had met under different circumstances, he might actually have gone over to strike up a conversation.

For the record, he might have zero motivation when it came to sorcerer work, but in his daily life, he was very much a normie with a full social life.

Hearing that, Satoru's expression became downright rippling.

"Could it be, could it be that the legendary love that transcends race and hostile factions is about to blossom for my dear nephew?"

"Oh heavens, what kind of decision must I make as your uncle?"

"Do I give you my blessing, or do I tear you apart?"

"That is the question."

Satoru slipped into Hamlet mode in an instant, his dramatic performance drawing the glances of the surrounding customers. Some people were annoyed at first, but when they got a proper look at Satoru and Shun's faces, all that irritation melted into indulgent auntie smiles.

So it was emotional entanglement between two handsome guys.

For this kind of romance, their tolerance was very high.

Shun could not tell if it was his imagination, but he had the distinct feeling that pink flowers had somehow started blooming around his uncle.

So gross.

He clicked his tongue.

"Uncle, I am pretty sure every cursed spirit out there knows your name. Are you saying you have had feelings for all of them?"

Satoru snapped back to normal. He shrugged.

"Don't be so serious. You really do not want to have a passionate love story with a cursed spirit?"

Shun replied calmly, "If that happened, you would probably be the first to come after me."

"That might be going a little too far. At most, I would make you work honestly afterward to atone."

Satoru chuckled.

"If you manage that, as long as you keep your cursed spirit girlfriend under control, you can still live a perfectly happy life."

"..."

Shun was out of words.

Only his uncle could say something like that with a straight face. Also, when exactly had he gotten a cursed spirit girlfriend?

Satoru suddenly put on a sorrowful expression.

"After all, love is the most twisted curse of all."

Shun shot back immediately.

"Uncle, you have been single since birth, you know."

"..."

This time it was Satoru's turn to fall silent.

He slowly turned his head toward Shun, his smile turning gentle.

"I am going to blow your head off."

Shun just shrugged.

"Anyway, back to business."

Satoru stretched lazily.

"Business?"

A sudden bad feeling rose in Shun's chest.

"About the Ryomen Sukuna incident," Satoru said.

"The King of Curses?"

Shun raised a brow.

That was a big shot from a thousand years ago. Even so, he had a feeling that someone like that still would not measure up to his uncle.

The guy might be completely unreliable as a person, but in terms of raw power, he could crush past and present alike.

Satoru nodded.

"The higher ups are sending me over to keep an eye on things. So I am leaving this place to you, my dear nephew."

"What did you just say?"

Shun's eyes went wide. He reached out, wanting to grab his uncle, but the man's figure had already flickered and appeared outside the dessert shop in the blink of an eye.

"As long as you work hard, even if it is a cursed spirit, I can help you keep everything under control."

Satoru waved his hand outside the window, shouting cheerfully as he vanished from sight.

"Hey!"

Shun moved to rush out after him, but the server was faster.

The staff member blocked the doorway with practiced ease.

"Sir, please pay."

"You mean he did not even pay?!"

Shun could not believe his uncle's sense of shame had found a way to break through a new bottom line.
