Chapter 15 — Shadows Close In
The mansion seemed alive with tension that night. Every creak, every whisper of the wind, made Lina's heart race. The warning, the notes, the intruder — everything from the past days had led to this.
She moved carefully through the halls, Clara close behind, carrying the collected notes and observations. Together, they retraced the intruder's possible paths, looking for patterns and weak points.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the hallway. Lina froze, her pulse hammering in her ears.
Adrian appeared instantly, his presence commanding. "Stay back," he ordered, eyes sharp, scanning every shadow.
The intruder was back. A figure slipped through a side door — fast, precise, and deliberately testing their defenses.
Lina's hands shook. She realized that the mansion, once a place of luxury and safety, had become a battlefield. Every corner, every door, every shadow could hide danger.
Clara whispered urgently, "We need a plan. They're becoming bolder… faster."
Adrian's gaze softened slightly as it fell on Lina. "You've learned well so far," he said quietly. "But survival here… requires more than learning. It requires courage, cleverness, and vigilance."
Lina swallowed, trying to steady her trembling hands. She nodded, understanding fully for the first time that this world she had entered was unforgiving.
From the hallway, a shadow flickered again. The intruder's presence was closer than ever. Lina's heart sank as the figure disappeared into the darkness, leaving only the echo of footsteps behind.
She pressed her back against the wall, eyes fixed on the hallway. The mansion was no longer her home. It was a labyrinth of secrets and danger, and the intruder was always one step ahead.
And she knew, with chilling certainty: the next encounter would change everything.
