Chapter 17 - Tease: The Whisper in the Shadows

The estates were calm, the morning sun spilling over golden gardens, birds singing, the air warm and fragrant. Loren and Velaxor moved through the halls, laughter light and easy, carrying trays of fresh pastries for the staff. Peace had settled like a soft blanket over everything.

But somewhere far away, behind thick reinforced walls and bars that seemed impenetrable, Mark sat in silence. His fingers drummed lightly on the metal table before him. He stared at the ceiling, eyes unfocused yet alive with obsession.

A notebook lay open beside him. Scribbled diagrams, codes, and fragments of past failures filled its pages. He wasn't planning a full-scale trap—he couldn't—but he allowed himself a thought, just a seed:

"They survived… this time. But nothing is ever final. One day, the cracks will appear, and I will be there to watch them widen."

He smiled faintly, a chilling curve of lips that didn't reach his eyes. The guards outside never suspected a thing. Mark didn't need freedom—just the knowledge that he existed, still thinking, still planning, still observing.

And far, far away, the sun shone on Loren and Velaxor, their laughter bright, oblivious to the whisper of a storm that could never touch them… yet.

The shadow lingered, subtle, quiet, and patient.
