Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Crash into a New Life

The drone hovered above them, buzzing annoyingly.

"Alexa… if this thing hits my face, I swear I'm suing," Katie groaned.

"You'd haunt me with passive-aggressive playlists forever," Alexa shot back, smirking.

Katie laughed. "I'd like to see you try."

"Okay, serious," Katie said, holding a half-empty champagne bottle. "If we crash drunk, who's haunting who first?"

Alexa grabbed the keys. "Hands off! We're not ending like that."

She staggered into the driver's seat, tipsy but determined. Katie collapsed into the passenger side.

"Are you sure you can drive?" Katie slurred.

"Relax. I've got this."

Two blocks later, headlights blazed. A truck barreled toward them. Alexa jerked the wheel — too late.

Glass shattered. Metal twisted. Cold water rushed in. Darkness.

Alexa woke to sunlight. Silk sheets. Her head pounding.

"Katie…"

Her best friend stirred. "Alexa… where… what is this?"

The room screamed wealth. Crystal chandeliers, plush furniture, massive windows.

"Katie… we're dead," Alexa whispered.

Katie groaned. "No… hotel? Mansion?"

Memory hit: party, champagne, driving, headlights, crash.

Alexa swallowed. "We… we crashed drunk. We… died."

Katie's eyes widened. "And now… we're in the book."

Papers on a desk confirmed it: full plot summaries, character stats, tragic fates.

Suddenly, phones rang.

"Miss Alexa! Miss Katie! Where are you?" a maid's voice snapped. "Mr. Alexander Whitford and Mr. Benjamin Carrington are asking!"

Alexa groaned. "Impatient? We almost drowned!"

Katie smirked weakly. "Welcome to our new lives. Young misses. Rich. Married. Separate houses. Separate husbands."

The names echoed: Alexander Whitford — icy-cool CEO. Benjamin Carrington — equally wealthy, childhood friend of Alexander.

They got dressed, still dizzy. Every detail screamed the novel's plot. Heading toward their new homes — Manhattan penthouse and Upper East Side estate — they braced for cold authority, high society tension.

Once safely alone, Alexa whispered, "Tomorrow, Brixton Café, back corner. We plan, survive, change this."

Katie nodded. "Deal. Paris can wait. For now, we survive. Together."

Their new lives had begun. Survival was the first step.
