Ahh, the thrill of being killed by a 50 tons of HSLA industrial Steel, barreling faster than any normal human could ever hope to out run. And Having lived a super ordinary life of pain, suffering and love, I had unfortunately died for reasons that seemed beyond my comprehension, like Zues forced the change in the timeline. But before all that nonsense my day started like any other young adults day would.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
"Ughhh… what time is it?" My phone lay flat on the table, alarming me of the danger that shall await me — in other words, the harbinger of chaos that shall make my seemingly boring life a waking nightmare
When glaced at my 4K AMOLED display of my phone i realized how screwed I was.
"No. No. No. No. No. No. How the hell did I end up oversleeping? I thought I had this in the bag. If I don't hurry up… who knows what will happen"
I grabbed my uniform and bag and set out, bracing my mind and my body for the hell that awaited me patiently at school.
DING-DONG!
I rushed through, the gates almost closing in front of me
'I barely made it...'
PANT! PANT!
"I hope... HE didn't... see me…" and as if things could not have gotten worse -HE- came through the door expecting absolute silence to be present in the room.
"Good morning, class."
He—or Mr. Torikawa—shone daggers of light in my eyes, silently saying, You're in trouble, young man. Goosebumps prickled my skin as I imagined what punishment awaited me.
"Good morning, teacher," the class knowing his very very strict punishments and work assignments responded in perfect sync, with their voices masking a subtle but unmistakable fear. The fear of a man who knew the fears and worries of whoever he is to cross paths with Mr. Torikawa at the front of the room radiated an aura that needed no defiance. He looked at me like he knew my fears. Then...
"Hikaru, detention after class"
These words pierced throghy my heart like the spear of a skilled warrior, my lungs felt heavy as if they were lead in the air, my started fingers trembling. My words hollowed, my breathing shallow as the weight of the shit I got into clicked.
"Detention," My voice barely a whisper.
As the class burst into laughter, sounds of laugher echos through my ears. My expression turned grim, I had had been held down by the gravity of the situation that my knees hit the ground before I could process anything.
'if I get detention, I might lose my job'
'Why did it have to be him'
Thoughts of all kind started racing through my brain as we sat down. The image of me entering the Detention Room for the first time and the sheer weight of being fired due to unpunctualality hit me like a truck loaded with 50 tons of nuclear bombs. As the hours passed, I heard the bell toll signifying the end of school for the day.
As if my body knew the crap that awaited me, I unconsciously made my way to the detention room, lost in thought. Then she appeared. My childhood friend, Sayaka Kobayashi — a girl with long, well-kempt silver hair, smooth skin, a striking presence, intelligent and endlessly kind.
She saw the poor state I was in and out of curiosity of what is causing her friend soo much pain she asks"Hikaru, are doing alright. You seem gloomy. Did something happen?"
"I'm fine. Just going be late for work," my words felt empty, hollow. Like there is no existing soul in this vessel
She tilts her head in confusion and forrows her brows "What do you mean by that?"
"I... Nevermind. I need to go"
"Go where. You need to go to work with me"
"I can't!!" I shouted, all the rage and frustration I'd held back today finally spilling out, "I... i'm sorry, I... I didn't mean to shout"
Her eyes softened. I couldn't meet them—not after shouting like that.
She hesitated for half a second, then closed the distance. Her arms slipped around me, tentative, as if afraid I might break.
"I don't want you to worry me like that anymore," she whispered.
All the weight—detention, work, fear of losing everything—collapsed like dust in the wind. My chest loosened, shoulders slumped. Breath came ragged, uneven, tears pricking my eyes.
Something inside me ignited—a fire that burned away every shadow of stress. For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt seen. I felt loved.
The warmth of her arms, the steady pressure of her hands, the rhythm of her heartbeat against mine—it was overwhelming. My hands moved on instinct, wrapping around her, holding her as if I could anchor myself in this single moment and never let go.
"Sayaka… thank you. Really." My voice cracked, broken and small, but every word carried the weight of everything I hadn't been able to say.
We
Time stretched. The bell outside, the laughter in my ears, the chaos of life—they all faded into nothing. Here, in her arms, I could breathe again.
Suddenly a voice cuts out the silence"Hey love birds, can you stop flirting in the halls" Mr. Torikawa appeared seemingly out of nowhere. And oddly enough,he sounded and acted like a totally different man
The both of us broke away from each other, cheeks red and some form of embarrassment realizing the impression they were giving out was... You know...
"Don't worry, Hikaru. You don't need to go to the detention room anymore. You missed it" he smiles
After a few moments of silence I had realized something "I MISSED IT?! Sayaka we need to go NOW!!" We started to make our way to our part time job but Mr. Torikawa stopped us.
"Be careful out there, okay." He said smiling
" We will." I smiled back happy that I do not have to go to the Detention Room.

Putting drama aside we finally reached, our place of work. Matsuri Mini Mart. One of the most popular mini marts to ever exist in Japan. We had a lot of work to do. And fortunately our shifts were about to start.
"Sorry we're late" she said
"Don't worry about it, just finish changing and attend to our customers" Our boss said
" Thank you for giving us a second chance ma'am"
"Sure just make sure you lock the doors after your shift is over"
"Yes ma'am!" We said perfectly in sync with each other.
As our started our shifts we attended to many customers in the process and made tons of money while we're at it.
After a few hours had passed, we were last customer."Thank you for shopping with us" as the last customer left and the sound of the door closing an eriee silence surrounded us. Then a voice broke the silence "Hey, Sayaka let's close up." I got the the keys used my employee card to check out and had started waiting outside for Sayaka. " What's taking you soo long"
" I'm coming wait for me, just need to turn off the lights and enable the security system" she said
" I'll wait" I had sighed cause, I had gotten quite tired and waiting any longer would kill me
Then after locking the door and setting the alarm, I slipped the keys back into my pocket. Sayaka joined me outside, her hands brushing the cool metal of the door as she adjusted her bag. The evening air hit us like a gentle wave, carrying the faint scent of rain yet to fall.
"Ready?" I asked, stepping onto the empty street.
She nodded, and together we began our walk. The city lights flickered along the sidewalk, painting long shadows that stretched before us. Every sound—the distant hum of traffic, the click of my shoes on concrete, even the rustle of leaves—felt amplified in the quiet of the closing hour.
For a moment, neither of us spoke. The weight of the day seemed to linger, yet in the soft glow of street lamps, it felt lighter somehow. Sayaka's presence beside me was a quiet comfort, a reminder that chaos didn't have to follow me home.
Then, a sudden roar shattered the calm. Headlights blazed down the street, too fast, too close. My stomach dropped.
"Sayaka…" I barely whispered, my voice trembling. But she had already seen it.
Truck-Kun—the deliverer of souls, the unstoppable force—was barreling toward us.
Time slowed. Screeching metal, the wind whipping past, and then… darkness.
Pain, chaos, and the bitter sting of inevitability.
We were gone. Just like that.

But this was not the end. Only the prelude. The world of war, power, and vengeance awaited — and the true adventure had only just begun.
