Chapter 5: Professional Annoyer
Jay's POV
I knew peace wouldn't last.
Section E doesn't allow it.
I was peacefully writing notes when someone kicked my chair.
Once.
Twice.
Third time.
I turned slowly.
Keifer.
Of course.
"What?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Nothing."
He kicked the chair again.
Cin whispered from the side, "He's bored."
"I can see that," I muttered.
I faced forward again.
Kick.
I dropped my pen.
"Do you have leg spasms?" I asked sweetly.
He leaned forward. "No."
"Then control it."
He smirked. "Or?"
I turned fully in my chair.
"Or I'll rearrange your confidence."
Yuri choked on air.
Keifer tapped his pen loudly now.
Click.
Click.
Click.
I stared at him.
"Are you a human or a sound effect?"
"Depends," he said. "Are you always this serious?"
"Only when stupidity is nearby."
The class went "OHHHH."
He leaned closer.
"You talk big for someone who's 5 minutes away from losing patience."
I smiled.
"You breathe loud for someone trying to look calm."
Felix whispered, "This is my favorite show."
Keifer suddenly grabbed my notebook.
Oh.
Wrong move.
"Give it back," I said calmly.
"Let's see what Miss Savage writes," he teased.
He read dramatically.
"'Section E lacks discipline.' Wow. Personal attack."
"That's called observation," I replied.
He flipped the page.
"'Keifer talks too much.'"
The class exploded.
Yuri fell off his chair laughing.
Keifer narrowed his eyes at me.
"You write about me a lot."
I snatched my notebook back.
"You give me content."
Cin covered his mouth. "She's evil."
Keifer rested his elbow on my desk.
"Admit it."
"What?"
"You enjoy arguing with me."
I didn't answer immediately.
Big mistake.
He noticed.
"I knew it," he said smugly.
I stood up.
"I enjoy winning. Not arguing."
He stood up too.
Now we were too close again.
"Winning?" he repeated.
"Yeah."
"And who said you're winning?"
I leaned in slightly.
"You're still trying to annoy me."
"And?"
"And I'm still not annoyed."
He stared at me.
I stared back.
Kick.
My chair moved again.
I blinked.
"You just ruined your intense moment," I said flatly.
The class roared laughing.
He looked offended.
"You ruined it," he argued.
"You kicked the chair!"
"You distracted me!"
"With what? My existence?"
Silence.
Blaster whispered dramatically, "Tension."
Keifer ran a hand through his hair.
"You're impossible."
I picked up my pen.
"And yet you keep trying."
He walked back to his seat finally.
But two minutes later—
A paper ball hit my head.
I picked it up.
Opened it.
Smile more. You look scary.
I slowly turned.
He was pretending to write.
I wrote back on the paper.
Study more. You look stupid.
I threw it.
It hit his forehead.
Perfect aim.
The class applauded.
Sir Alvin walked in at the worst time.
"What is happening?"
Everyone pointed at Keifer.
I didn't.
He looked at me.
I smiled innocently.
He shook his head slightly.
War paused.
Not ended.
Because one thing was clear.
He wasn't annoying me because he hated me.
He was annoying me because—
He wanted my attention.
And unfortunately for him…
He already had it.
