Chapter 1 - The value of a relationship

Subject: The Value of a Relationship

There was a girl named Nasifa. She was intelligent and loved studying. But as we all know, no one is perfect. Nasifa's weakness was that she was afraid to talk to people and build new relationships. She was deeply emotional, and from a young age, she had observed many things that made her believe people are temporary. No one truly comes into our lives to stay forever; most people come with their own interests.

Nasifa was used to being alone. She did not need to mix much with others to feel happy. She could keep herself content all by herself. However, life requires experience. Perhaps the Creator wanted to make her more experienced about the world, stronger in character, able to recognize people, and capable of facing every situation bravely. And so, after some time, different friends began coming and going in her life.

One day, an unfamiliar girl slowly started talking to her. Little by little, she created a soft corner in Nasifa's heart for friendship. The second girl's name was Kusum. Nasifa was not someone who could easily mix with everyone, but once she found comfort in someone, she would give her whole heart to that person. In Kusum, she found a different kind of peace. She felt that maybe this was the person who would stay with her till the end.

Their friendship soon became well-known in their school and coaching center. No one ever saw them separately. They were always together—supporting each other, helping each other, and standing side by side. There was no lack in their relationship. There were even times when Nasifa fought for Kusum, and Kusum fought for Nasifa. Yet they never left each other's side. Their bond became unbreakable.

This continued for four years.

Then life changed. Due to family reasons, Kusum had to move away to study elsewhere. One day, Nasifa called Kusum to share some happy news. But before she could speak, she heard something painful from the other side of the phone. Kusum told her that they would no longer study together, hang out daily, laugh, or share stories like before. She was being sent away for her studies.

Nasifa could not reply. She fell silent. In those few moments, memories of their entire journey flashed before her eyes, breaking her from within. She was reminded once again that no one in life is permanent.

The next day at coaching, she could not control herself and broke down in tears. Seeing her cry, even her classmates became emotional. Their teachers tried to comfort her. They said, "You want your friend to succeed, don't you? If she achieves something good, won't you be happy? Let her go. Don't hold her back. You focus on building yourself, and let her build her future too." After an hour of consoling, her tears finally stopped. With tearful eyes, both friends returned home separately. At home, they cried a lot. Everyone around them was surprised—could a friendship really be this deep?

Eventually, the difficult day arrived. Their goals were the same, but their paths were different.

With great difficulty, both of them learned to manage themselves. They continued their studies sincerely. After completing their secondary exams, they were able to return to the same place again. However, their subjects were different this time, so they could not spend as much time together as before. As distance grew, cracks slowly appeared in their relationship. Misunderstandings entered their once-beautiful bond.

They no longer shared everything like they used to. For unknown reasons, Nasifa became a "bad person" in Kusum's eyes. Without even asking her directly, Kusum misunderstood her based on others' words. After some time, Nasifa felt that everything needed to be clarified because it was all just a misunderstanding. She tried to talk to Kusum, but she saw a completely different side of her—one she had never seen or imagined before.

Kusum ignored her deeply. And being ignored breaks a person from within. Nasifa tried as much as she possibly could. There was nothing more left for her to try. She even forgot her self-respect; her ego was zero percent. Yet Kusum never gave her a chance to explain. Only neglect.

One day, Nasifa realized she had lost herself. Enough was enough. It was time to think about herself. She stepped back. Kusum no longer received repeated messages from her. No one said sorry anymore. No one opened a diary to read Nasifa's heartfelt words. No one pleaded helplessly, saying, "Kusum, please listen to me once. Don't misunderstand me. Just talk to me once—everything will be fine."

Nasifa stopped there.

She had once said she would never befriend anyone again—and she kept her word. But Kusum now has many friends. Once again, life proved that everyone is temporary.

Nasifa understands that this entire story taught her how to live anew—how to live for herself and become stronger. Yet somewhere deep inside, she still waits. She waits for the day when Kusum will open her heart, listen to her side, and clear their misunderstandings. But now, she is mostly busy building herself.

And here the story ends.

Only the waiting remains.

Moral: No one in life is permanent.
